This study investigated on details of flow characteristics of a multi-blade fan for domestic ventilation. Experiments and analysis were carried out to describe on flow pattern with variations of cut-off angle near the scroll housing throat, which were performed by PIV measurement for the flow field and by total pressure probes. The stagnation point at cut-off region of the fan moves to the exit of the scroll housing as the cut-off angle increases. The movement of stagnation point and the variation of throat area of the scroll housing influence to the distribution of velocity magnitude at the exit of the fan. Furthermore, a large distortion of the velocity distribution at the scroll exit causes to increase mixing loss along the flow path.

In the present steady the flow characteristics of turbulent steady flows were experimentally investigated in the exit region of join stream. The experimental was carry out to measure the velocity profiles of air in a square duct. For the measurement of velocity profiles, a hot-wire anemometer was used. The experimental results shows that the velocity profiles do not change behind the fully developed flow region , which is defined as dimensionless axial direction x/Dh=50. In addition, the gradient of shear stress distribution became stable as the flow reached progress downstream.
The experimental study on flow characteristic in various laminar coflow diffusion flame has been conducted with a particular focus on the buoyancy force exerted from gaseous hydrocarbon fuels. Methane ($CH_4$), Ethylene ($C_2H_4$) and n-Butane ($C_4H_{10}$) were used as fuels. Coflow burner and Schlieren technique were used to observe the fuel flow field near nozzle exit and flow characteristics in flames. The result showed that the vortices in n-Butane with density heavier than air were appeared near the nozzle exit with the strong negative buoyancy on the fuel stream. As Reynolds number increases by the control of velocity, the vortices were greater and the vortices tips were moved up from the nozzle exit. In addition, it can be found that the heated nozzle can affect to the flow fields of fuel stream near the nozzle exit.
The flow velocity distribution at inlet and exit of a DPF was measured using a Pitot tube and 2-D positioning equipment. An adaptor which was designed for accessing the Pitot tube probe into inlet of the DPF was fabricated with inlet flange of the DPF. The Pitot tube which was mounted in the 2-D positioning machine could access to the inlet of the DPF through the rectangular window of the adaptor. Automation of the velocity measurement at the inlet and exit of the DPF was effectively achieved and measuring time was reduced drastically. The flow velocity distribution at the inlet of the DPF showed parabola shape with maximum velocity near to the center of the DPF, as expected. The velocity distribution at the exit of the DPF showed crown shape, that is, the flow velocity distribution near to the center of the DPF is lower than that at surrounded peripheral region of the DPF.

Since conventional computer program is workable only with velocity boundary condition, in practical fluid passage such as clean room which usually have wide inlets and outlets, it is not easy to measure velocity itself because of its vector property. Furthermore a certain assumption of velocity at boundaries may lead to physically unreasonable results. From this motivation, we have developed a computer program to predict whole flow field imposed on pressure-based boundary condition which can be measured by relatively simple method. The only additional velocity boundary condition that should be imposed on to make the problem unique, are no slip condition at all walls and zero cross stream velocity at inlet. The result of present study was compared with that by Bernoulli equation being used practically. They were coincident well each other within 5%, therefore the validity of the present method is proved. In the present work, the flow field in a clean room subject to pressure-based boundary conditions at an inlet and two exits was predicted numerically. The pressure difference between the inlet and the left exit which keeps relatively low pressure among two exits is fixed as 150[Pa] and the pressure at the right exit is varied from zero to 150[Pa] by the increment of 25[Pa]. For each cases the flow characteristics in the clean room, the velocity profile at the inlet, and the flow rate through the two exits was predicted. The flow rate through the right exit imposed on relatively higher pressure than the left exit decreased linearly according to the increase of pressure of the right exit. When the pressure of the right exit is increased enough to cause back flow at the exit, the flow rate is rapidly decreased.
The present study has been carried out to analyze the flow characteristics of a heat recovery steam generator with the change of inlet flow conditions by using numerical flow analysis. The inlet of HRSG corresponds the outlet of gas turbine exit and the flow after gas turbine has strong swirl flow and turbulence. The inlet flow condition of HRSG should be included the exit flow characteristics of gas turbine. The present numerical analysis adopted the flow analysis result of gas turbine exit flow as a inlet flow condition of HRSG analysis. The computational flow analysis result of gas turbine exit shows that the maximum axial velocity appears near circular duct wall and the maximum turbulent kinetic energy and dissipation rate exist relatively higher gradient region of axial velocity. The comparison of flow analysis will be executed with change of inlet turbulent flow condition. The first case is using the inlet turbulent properties from the result of computational analysis of gas turbine exit flow, and the second case is using the assumed turbulent intensity with the magnitude proportional to the velocity magnitude and length scale. The computational results of flow characteristics for two cases show great difference especially in the velocity field and turbulent properties. The main conclusion of the present study is that the flow inlet condition of HRSG should be included the turbulent properties for the accurate computational result of flow analysis.
The programs of grid generation and flow analysis for the 3-D flow field. were developed. The finer results from numerical analysis could be obtained by using developed programs than those of the experimental data in the flow field of the circular nozzle exit region. Especially A virtual-origin of 3.2 times of nozzle diameter within three percent error inside from nozzle exit plane could be obtained.

Effects of a length-to-diameter ratio, L/D, on the three-dimensional flow and aerodynamic loss within an injection hole, which is normally oriented to the mainflow, have been investigated by using a straight five-hole probe. The length-to-diameter ratio of the injection hole is varied to be 0.5 and 2.0 for blowing ratios of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. Regardless of the blowing ratio, flows within the hole and at the jet exit are strongly affected by the length-to-diameter ratio. In the case of L/D=0.5, the inside flow is considerably influenced by the mainflow, and the exit flow variation is found to be the greatest. The aerodynamic loss in this case is usually attributed to jet -mainflow interactions. In the case of L/D=2.0, the flow separation and reattachment in the inlet region are completely separated from the complicated exit flow, and the aerodynamic-loss production is mainly due to the inlet flow separation.
We modeled the liquid film dryout(LFD) process for both tube and annulus which have uniformly heated vertical channels. We set phenomenological initial conditions in the model. The initial void fraction on the onset of the annular flow location is derived from the physical chum-to-annular flow criterion with the help of the drift-flux-model. The initial thermodynamic-equilibrium-quality is calculated by iteration with the flow quality to find the onset of the annular-flow location. Present model tends to predict very well at the lower exit quality but under-estimates at the higher exit quality. We found that the prediction error of the present model is gradually bigger as the inlet subcooling approaches near the saturation. We obtained excellent results for both tube and annulus channels as the mean of 0.97 and root-mean-square error of 11% for the number of 3883 experimental data on tubes, and of 0.96 and of 12% for 593 on annuli. The present model extended the applicable range to the relatively low exit quality region than previous LFD models.
This work presents results of finite element analysis of isothermal incompressible creeping viscoelastic flows with the tensor-logarithmic formulation of the Leonov model especially for the planar geometry with singular comers in the domain. In the case of 4:1 contraction flow, for all 5 meshes we have obtained solutions over the Deborah number of 100, even though there exists slight decrease of convergence limit as the mesh becomes finer. From this analysis, singular behavior of the comer vortex has been clearly seen and proper interpolation of variables in terms of the logarithmic transformation is demonstrated. Solutions of 4:1:4 contraction/expansion flow are also presented, where there exists 2 singular comers. 5 different types spatial resolutions are also employed, in which convergent solutions are obtained over the Deborah number of 10. Although the convergence limit is rather low in comparison with the result of the contraction flow, the results presented herein seem to be the only numerical outcome available for this flow type. As the flow rate increases, the upstream vortex increases, but the downstream vortex decreases in their size. In addition, peculiar deflection of the streamlines near the exit comer has been found. When the spatial resolution is fine enough and the Deborah number is high, small lip vortex just before the exit comer has been observed. It seems to occur due to abrupt expansion of the elastic liquid through the constriction exit that accompanies sudden relaxation of elastic deformation.
