  • In this study, quantitative and pattern recognition analysis for the quality evaluation of Cimicifugae Rhizoma using HPLC/UV was developed. For quantitative analysis, three major bioactive phenolic compounds were determined. The separation conditions employed for HPLC/UV were optimized using ODS $C_{18}$ column ($250{\times}4.6mm$, $5{\mu}M$) with isocratic elution of acetonitrile and water with 0.1% phosphoric acid as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and a detection wavelength of 323 nm. These methods were fully validated with respect to the linearity, accuracy, precision, recovery, and robustness. The HPLC/UV method was applied successfully to the quantification of three major compounds in the extract of Cimicifugae Rhizoma. The HPLC analytical method for pattern recognition analysis was validated by repeated analysis of twelve reference samples corresponding to five different species of Cimicifugae Rhizoma and seventeen samples purchased from markets. The results indicate that the established HPLC/UV method is suitable for the quantitative analysis and quality control of multi-components in Cimicifugae Rhizoma.

  • Friction welding has been shown to have significant economic and technical advantages. However, one of the major concerns in using friction welding is the reliability of the weld quality. No reliable nondestructive test method is available at present for detecting weld quality, particularly in a production environment. Friction welds are formed by the mechanisms of diffusion as well as mechanical interlocking. The severe plastic flow at the interface by forge action of the process brings the subsurfaces so close together that detection of any unbonded area becomes very difficult. This paper presents an attempt to determine the friction weld strength quantitatively using the ultrasonic pulse-echo method. Instead of detecting flaws or cracks at the interface, the new approach calculates the coefficient of reflection based on measured amplitudes of the echoes. It has been finally confirmed that this coefficient could provide the quantitative relationship to the weld quality such as tensile strength, torsional strength, impact value, hardness, etc. So a new nondestructive analysis system of friction weld strength of dissimilar metals using an ultrasonic technique could be well developed.

  • A safe computer environment is necessarily required for computer users, because of a damage is widely increased by a malicious software such as the warm, virus and trojan horse. A general vaccine program can detect after the malicious software intruded. This kinds of the vaccine program show good result against a malicious code which is well known, however, there is no function in the vaccine or not enough ability to detect an application software which a malicious code included. So, this paper proposes an application verification system to decide existence and nonexistence of a malicious code in the application software. The proposed application verification system with a mechanism that grasps the flow type of malicious code, can make a reduction of a damage for computer users before the application software executed.

  • A new method for the simultaneous determination of heavy metal ions in cigarette material by microwave digestion and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) has been developed. The cigarette material was digested by microwave digestion. Lead, cadmium, mercury, nickel and tin ions in the digested samples were pre-column derivatized with tetra-(2-chlorophenyl)-porphyrin ($T_2$-CPP) to form color chelates, which were then enriched by solid phase extraction with a $C_{18}$ cartridge. The chelates were separated on a Waters Xterra$^{TM}RP_{18}$ column by gradient elution with methanol (containing 0.05 mol/L pyrrolidine-aceticacid buffer salt, pH = 10.0) and acetone (containin0.05 mol/L pyrrolidine-acetic acid buffer salt, pH = 10.0)as mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.5mL/min and analyzed with a photodiode array detector from 350-600 nm. The detection limits of lead, cadmium, mercury, nickel and tin were 4,3,3,8 and 5 ng/L, respectively, in the original samples. This method was afforded good results.

  • A sensitive technique for the determination of trace Co(II) in various samples after column preconcentration by adsorbing onto silica gel loaded with 1-nitroso-2-naphthol was developed. Several experimental conditions, such as pH of sample solution, the amount of silica gel loaded with 1-nitroso-2-naphthol, the flow rate for adsorption and so forth, were optimized. The interfering effects of diverse concomitant ions were investigated. Fe(III) interfered with more than any other ions, but the interference by Fe(III) was completely eliminated by adjusting the amount of silica gel loaded with 1-nitroso-2-naphthol to 0.30 g. The dynamic range, the correlation coefficient ($R^2$), and the detection limit obtained by the proposed technique were 3.0-140.0 ng m$L^{-1}$, 0.9942, and 1.81 ng m$L^{-1}$, respectively. For validating the technique, the aqueous samples (tap water, reservoir water, stream water, and wastewater) and the plastic samples were used as real samples. Recovery yields of 93.0-107.0% were obtained. These measured data were not different from ICP-MS data at the 95% confidence level by F test. Based on the results of the experiment, it has been found that the proposed technique can be applied to the determination of Co(II) in various real samples.

  • We present a space-time trellis coded OFDM system in flow fading channels. Generalized principal ratio combining (GPRC) is also analyzed theoretically in frequency domain. The analysis show that the decoding metric of GPRC include the metrics of maximum likelihood (ML) and PRC. The computer simulations with M-PSK modulation are obtained in frequency flat and frequency selective lading channels. The decoding complexity and simulation running times are also evaluated among the decoding schemes.

  • Check valve failure is one of the worst problems in nuclear power plants. Recently, many researches have been based on new technology using accelerometers and ultrasonic and magnetic flux detection have been carried out. Here, we have suggested a method that uses acoustic emission sensors for detecting the failures of check valves through measuring and analyzing backward leakage flow, a system that works without disassembling the check valve. For validating the suggested acoustic emission sensor methodology, we designed a hydraulic test loop with a check valve. We have assumed in this study that check valve failure is caused by disk wear or by the insertion of a foreign object. In addition, we have developed diagnostic algorithms by using a neural network model to identify the type and size of the failure in the check valve. Our results show that the proposed diagnostic algorithm with acoustic emission sensors is a good solution for identifying check valve failure without necessitating any disassembly work.

  • The particle size of microfine cement(MC) is so small that it can be injected into silt layer. But the more particle size is miniaturized, the more the cohesion increases. This phenomenon results in the decrease of the perviousness of MC. In this study, the grouting effects of microfine cement with superplasticizer to maintain cohesion low and that of normal cement were investigated in rock. To estimate the grouting effects, TCR/RQD test for rock quality, lugeon test, borehole loading test for coefficients of elastic and deformative stress, borehole shear test for shear stress, detection p~q~t(pressure~flow~time) chart tests were carried out. The results using MC show a better permeability, modulus of elasticity, deformation, charge per unit, and recover efficiency of grouting material than those of ordinary portland cement except shear stress.
