In the present study, we investigated the velocity distribution, temperature distribution and condensation characteristics of steam jet issuing from four different orifice nozzles with a Reynolds number of approximately 79,000 using the phase Doppler particle analyzer system and a K-type thermocouple. The steam jet discharged from the orifice nozzle has a wider jet width compared to pipe nozzle because of the vena-contracta which can enhance the mixing of steam jet with the ambient air. Therefore, the orifice jet showed less condensation due to its wideness, resulting in small velocity decay rate and large temperature decay rate due to momentum conservation and decreased latent heat release compared to pipe nozzle, respectively. Also, the wider jet width of the orifice jet resulted in larger velocity and temperature spread rate compared to the pipe jet. In addition, the increase in the aspect ratio of the orifice jet led to more condensation and larger velocity spread rate and temperature spread rate due to both the vena-contracta and axis-switching effect, resulting in the increase of jet entrainment.

The local heat transfer coefficient is experimentally investigated for the reflux condensation in a countercurrent flow between the steam-air mixture and the condensate. A single vertical tube has a geometry which is a length of 2.4m, inner diameter of 16.56mm and outer diameter of 19.05mm and is made of stainless steel. Air is used as a noncondensible gas. The secondary side is installed in the form of coolant block around vertical tube and the heat by primary condensation is transferred to the coolant water. The local temperatures are measured at 15 locations in the vertical direction and each location has 3 measurement points in the radial direction, which are installed at the tube center, at the outer wall and at the coolant side. In three different pressures, the 27 sets of data are obtained in the range of inlet steam flow rate 1.348 -3.282kg/hr, of inlet air mass fraction 11.8 -55.0%. The local heat transfer coefficient increases as the increase of inlet steam flow rate and decreases as the decrease of inlet air mass fraction. As an increase of the system pressure, the active condensing region is contracted and the heat transfer capability in this region is magnified. The empirical correlation is developed represented with the 165 sets of local heat transfer data. As a result, the Jacob number and film Reynolds number are dominant parameters to govern the local heat transfer coefficient. The rms error is 17. 7% between the results by the experiment and by the correlation.

Condensation heat transfer experiments were conducted with the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger without oil in a refrigerant loop using R-l34a, R-407C and R-410A. An experimental refrigerant loop has been developed to measure the condensation heat transfer coefficient h$_{r}$ and frictional pressure drop $\Delta$p$_{f}$ of the various refrigerants in a vertical oblong shell and plate heat exchanger. The effects of the refrigerant mass flux(40∼80kg/$m^2$s), average heat flux(4∼8kW/$m^2$), refrigerant saturation temperature(30∼4$0^{\circ}C$) and vapor quality of refrigerants on the measured data were explored in detail. Similar to the case of a plate heat exchanger, even at a very low Reynolds number, the flow in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger remains turbulent. A comparison of the performance of the various refrigerants revealed that R-410A had the highest heat transfer performance followed by R-l34a, and R-407C had the lowest performance of the refrigerants tested. The pressure drops were also reported in this paper. The pressure drops for R-410A were approximately 45% lower than those of R-l34a. R-407C had 30% lower pressure drops than R-l34a. Experimental results were compared with several correlations which predicted condensation heat transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drops. Comparison with the experimental data showed that the previously proposed correlations gave unsatisfactory results. Based on the present data, empirical correlations of the condensation heat transfer coefficient and the friction factor were proposed.tor were proposed.sed.
A two-phase natural circulation test using SMART integral test loop (SMART-ITL) was conducted to explore thermo-hydraulic phenomena of two-phase natural circulation in the SMART reactor. Specifically, the test examined the natural circulation in the primary loop under a stepwise coolant inventory loss while keeping the core power constant at 5% of the scaled full power. Based on the test results, three flow regimes were observed: single-phase natural circulation (SPNC), two-phase natural circulation (TPNC), and boiler-condenser natural circulation (BCNC). The flow rate remained steady in the SPNC, slightly increased in the TPNC, and dropped abruptly and maintained in the BCNC. Using a natural circulation flow map, the natural circulation characteristic in the SMART-ITL was compared with those in pressurized water reactor simulators. In the SMART-ITL, a BCNC regime appeared instead of siphon condensation and reflux condensation regimes because of the use of once-through steam generators.
Deeply understanding the phase change of thin liquid sodium film inside wick pore is very important for further studying high-temperature sodium heat pipe's heat transfer. For the first time, the evaporation and condensation of thin liquid sodium film are investigated by the Lennard-Jones potential of molecular dynamics. Based on the startup and normal operation of the sodium heat pipe, three different cases are simulated. First, the equilibrium is achieved and the Mass Accommodation Coefficients of the three cases are 0.3886, 0.2119, 0.2615 respectively. Secondly, the non-equilibrium is built. The change of liquid film thickness, the number of gas atoms, the net evaporation flux (Jnet), the heat transfer coefficient (h) at the liquid-gas interface are acquired. Results indicate that the magnitude of the Jnet and the h increase with the basic equilibrium temperature. In 520-600 K (the startup of the heat pipe), the h has approached 5-6 W m-2 K-1 while liquid film thickness is in 11-13 nm. The fact shows that during the initial startup of the sodium heat pipe, the thermal resistance at the liquid-gas interface can't be negligible. This work is the complement and extension for macroscopic investigation of heat transfer inside sodium heat pipe. It can provide a reference for further numerical simulation and optimal design of the sodium heat pipe in the future.

In this paper, flow characteristics of R600a in an adiabatic capillary tube were investigated employing the homogeneous flow model. The model is based on fundamental equations of mass, energy and momentum which are solved simultaneously. Two friction factors(Churchill) and viscosity(McAdams) are comparatively used to investigate the flow characteristics. Thermodynamic and transport properties of R600a are calculated employing EES property code. Flow characteristics analysis of R600a in an adiabatic capillary tube is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters. The operating parameters considered in this study include condensation temperature, evaporation temperature, subcooling degree and inner diameter tube of the adiabatic capillary tube. The main results were summarized as follows: condensation and evaporation temperature, inlet subcooling degree and inner diameter tube of an adiabatic capillary tube using R600a have an effect on length of an adiabatic capillary tube. The length of an adiabatic capillary tube using R600a is expressed to the correlation shown in Eq. (15).

A numerical analysis was carried out to estimate the effect of the gap size ratio on the performance of condensers under noncondensable gas ventilation using the porous medium approach (PMA). In the PMA, the details of the tube bundle in the condenser are considered to be those of a porous medium, and the flow resistance term is added in the momentum equation. Three-dimensional analysis of the condensation for a McAllister condenser was conducted with the PMA using Fluent and user-defined functions (UDFs). The gap size effect on the condensation was negligible under pure steam conditions. However, the gap size effect was dominant in condensation with noncondensable gas and external venting. As the gap size decreased, the condensation rate increased for noncondensable gas in an external venting system.
In this study, experimental approach of the measurement of condensation and evaporation heat transfer coefficients is discussed for mixed refrigerants using in the ultra low-temperature cooling system for semiconductor etching process. An experimental apparatus was described performing the condensation and evaporation heat transfer measurements for mixed refrigerants. The mixed refrigerant used in this study was composed of the optimal mixture determined in previous research, with a composition of Ar:R14:R23:R218 = 0.15:0.4:0.15:0.3. The experiments were conducted over a temperature range from -82℃ to 15℃ and at pressures ranging from 18.5 bar to 5 bar. The convection heat transfer coefficients of the mixed refrigerant were measured at flow rates corresponding to actual operating conditions. The condensation heat transfer coefficient ranged from approximately 0.7 to 0.9 kW/m2K, while the evaporation heat transfer coefficient ranged from 1.0 to 1.7 kW/m2K. The detailed discussion of the experimental methods, procedures, and results were described in this paper.
A mechanistic model for void fraction prediction with improved interfacial friction factor in nearly horizontal tubes has been proposed in connection with the development of a condensation model package for the passive auxiliary feedwater system of the Korean Advanced Power Reactor Plus. The model is based on two-phase momentum balance equations to cover various types of fluids, flow conditions, and inclination angles of the flow channel in a separated flow. The void fraction is calculated without any discontinuity at flow regime transitions by considering continuous changes of the interfacial geometric characteristics and interfacial friction factors across three typical separated flows, namely stratified-smooth, stratified-wavy, and annular flows. An evaluation of the proposed model against available experimental data covering various types of fluids and flow regimes showed a satisfactory agreement.
Nanosized TiO2 powders were synthesized using the chemical vapor conduensation (CVC) process with various precursor feeding rates (0.37 and 0.752 ml/min) and oxygen flow rates(1-2slm) conditions and powder characteristics were investigated in terms of formation of nanosized powder varying with the above processing conditions. For this study the main thermodynamic and fluid dynamic factors -supersaturation ratio collision frequency and residence time-were theoretically established and compared to the characteristics of formed TiO2 powder. The loosely combined anatase phase powders (including less than 3%of rutile phase) having 20-30nm crystallite size were obtained at overall conditions. The particle size and th degree of agglomeration for a precursor flow rate of 0.376 ml/min turn out to be smaller than for a flow rate of 0.742ml/min. And the decreasing of particles size and particle size distribution were observed with increasing oxygen flow rate as the residence time and collision frequency were reduced by increasing oxygen flow rate,. It appears that further scrutiny is needed to elucidate the influence of the individual thermodynamic and kinetic parameters mdependently.
