Diffusion of non-professional flower growing in Korea still lags behind. The objectives of the study are to establish a theoretical modes to explain the diffusion of social floriculture, to identify some characteristics and problems of growing flower crops to cultivate amenities and emotions, and to suggest remedial measures for fostering it. Theoretical model adopted in this study consists of such variables as education, social movement, policies, diffusion of social flower growing, amenities, and emotional cultivation. For identifying the diffusion characteristics of flower growing, projects implemented by a non-governmental organization, schools, local and central government organizations were analyzed. In order to stimulate the diffusion of social flower growing and to increase its effects, there needs to strengthen education of stakeholders, establishment of partnership among schools, non-governmental and governmental organizations, and institutional supports including manpower and finances. Linking flower growing projects to community festival and tourism development programs can foster institutionalization of community flower growing. Furthermore, the introduction of wild, symbolic and traditional flowers and trees will help to specialize and improve community landscapes.
The objective of study was carried out to investigate the proper nutrient nitrogen concentration and irrigation period for increasing plant growth and flowering in Ardisia pusilla. Nutrient nitrogen concentrations were 120, 150, 180 and $210\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and they were based on the Sonneveld solution. Irrigation periods were divided into ED (except dormancy) and TG (total growth) according to plant age. The results of plant age and irrigation period, growth of 1 year-old plant was promoted by nitrogen concentration above $150\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ regardless of irrigation period. And plant growth values of 2 years-old in TG treatments were higher than ED treatments, especially TG-180 treatment was best of all. The contents of total nitrogen of leaves after flowering were increased with nutrient nitrogen strength. And the contents of potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphate slightly were decreased or were no significant differences. Plant growth and flowering decreased when nitrogen concentration was over $210\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$. Therefore, TG-150 and TG-180 were supposed to be appropriate treatment for plant growth and flowering of 1year-old plant and 2 years old plant, respectively.
The study was conducted to investigate the characteristics of flower quality and yield of gerbera 'Sunny Lemon' by mutrient solution strength and media of nutrient solution. The plant growth of 'Sunny Lemon' showed the highest values in the media of rockwool and perlite 1: peatmoss 2. Especially the yield of cut flowers for a year was more than 60 flowers and the flower longevity was over 10 days irrespective of nutrient solution concentration in the two media. There were no significant differences of plant characteristics in the nutrient concentration of 1/2 and 1 times, and the mineral nutrient contents showed similar values. Therefore, we recommended the media of perlite1: peatmoss2 with the concentration of 1/2 times for economical use. The rockwool media was not appropriate because of the weak buffer capacity like EC and pH.
To investigate the characteristics of plant growth and flower quality of gerbera 'Sunny Lemon' by amount of nutrient solution, young seedling plants, 'Sunny Lemon' were transplanted to rock-wool and medium of peat moss and perlite mixed with 1 to 2 and they were acclimatized in greenhouse during about 1 month. Nutrient solution supplied to the plants is sonneveld solution of 1/2 concentration and treatments launched June 24, 2010 when average plant height was $20{\pm}1cm$. Nutrient contents as a standard for starting point of irrigation by time domain reflectometry (TDR) were determined with 60-65%, 70-75%, and 80-85%. Results of growth during vegetative growth, plant height, leaf width and leaf number increased by 10% in rockwool, but they were not significantly different. As for plant growth depending on nutrient content, 80-85% treatment showed the highest values. Leaf number increased by 60%, and leaf width and plant height had a about 40% increase than initial growth. Effectiveness for flower quality, yield and days to flowering were superior when nutrient content of media was higher than in the others. Especially, average days to flowering in 80-85% content was advanced by 7-10 days compared to the day in 60-65% treatment. The total amount of nutrient supply per plant was higher in mixed medium than in rockwool, but change patterns of EC and pH were enhanced in rockwool. Based on our results, we recommended that growth, cut flower, and yield of gerbera 'Sunny Lemon' were more effective when nutrient content of mixed medium was maintained at 80-85%.

This study investigated the impact of two distinct MS basal media: one containing FeNaEDTA and the other FeEDDHA, on the growth of five unique gerbera cultivars (Shy Pink, Pink Holic, Breeze, Harmony, Snow Dream). Notably, the response to these media types varied significantly among the cultivars, particularly concerning leaf yellowing and plant growth. 'Shiny Pink' and 'Pink Holic' exhibited leaf yellowing on the FeNaEDTA-containing medium but displayed leaf greening on the FeEDDHA-containing medium. In contrast, 'Snow Dream,' 'Harmony,' and 'Breeze' remained unaffected on both medium types. However, the FeNaEDTA-containing medium promoted higher plant height and petiole length in 'Breeze,' 'Harmony,' and 'Snow Dream' than the FeNaEDTA-containing medium did. A promotive effect of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on plant growth and leaf greening was observed in 'Pink Holic,' particularly on the FeNaEDTA-containing medium, while the addition of AgNPs to the FeEDDHA-containing medium negatively affected plant growth. These results highlight the substantial influence of medium type, specifically the presence of FeNaEDTA or FeEDDHA, on gerbera growth responses, emphasizing the critical role of medium selection in gerbera propagation. Additionally, when contemplating the addition of AgNPs for in vitro gerbera propagation, it is crucial to consider the medium type.

When it comes to single node leafy stem cuttings of rose (Rosa hybrida), environmental management such as air temperature, relative humidity, and light affect productivity. In order to investigate the effect of air temperature and relative humidity on the cutting success rate and rooted cuttings quality, a transparent airtight box was used to implement a closed system. We have also tried to find out the most effective photoperiod and the number of leaflets in closed system using artificial light (white LED, 104.0 µmol·m-2·s-1 photosynthetic photon flux density). The first experiment was conducted for a total of 6 weeks under 4 airtight period conditions. The number of roots and longest root length decreased as the airtight period increased. But there were no significant differences in the survival rate, shooting rate, and rooting rate according to airtight periods. In the second experiment the results indicated that survival and shooting rate were significantly affected by the photoperiod (0/24, 2/22, 4/20, 8/16, and 16/8 h), the number of leaflets (0, 2, and 4 leaflets) of the cuttings and their interaction. The survival rate was the highest in the 16-h day length and 4 leaflets. By considering survival rate and shooting rate with energy efficiency, the 8-h day length and 2 or 4 leaflets were judged to be the most effective.
This study was carried out to investigate the plant growth of various foliage plants affected by the nutrient solution strength. Ficus benjamina, Hedera helix, Philodendron tatei, Rhapis excelsa, Spathiphyllum spp. were used in this experiment. The Sonneveld solution was diluted to 0, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 folds and applied through a subirrigation system. Plant height and width, leaf number, leaf area, fresh and dry weights of shoots were measured to compare the responses to the different treatments. The required amounts for nutrients were different among the various foliage plants. The growth of Ficus and Philodendron was improved as the nutrient solution strength got higher, but that of Hedera and Spathiphyllum showed the best growth in the lower nutrient solution strength of 1/4 and 1/2 folds. The growth of Rhapis was improved in the nutrient solution strength of 1 fold but the other treatments did not affect on plant growth. N, P, and K were the most important nutrients that had influence on the growth of the foliage plants in this study. There was not an accurate criterion for fertilization and irrigation to each foliage plant. Moreover, the foliage plants grew slowly during the early stage and this period must be shortened for commercial production. Therefore, the experiment was executed to make up these defects. The plants applied with proper strength of Sonneveld solution grew faster and had better quality.
Bark is a general medium for potted Cymbidium in Korea, but it is difficult to shake off or eliminate the medium from the roots before exporting the potted plants. This working process can injure the roots and then deteriorate plant marketability. This study was carried out to select the optimum medium easier to eliminate from the roots instead of bark and the optimum amount of applied fertilizer to improve the plant growth. Cymbidium young plants 'Honey Hot' and 'Desert Look' were planted in pots with bark, cocochip, and peatmoss. The plants were treated with 2, 4, and 6 g of slow release fertilizer. The plant growth characteristics were investigated in the first and second years during production period of three years. The medium characteristics and mineral nutrient content of the leaves were also examined in the second year. In the first year, the plant growth of 'Desert Look' was improved in all peatmoss treatments more than bark. 'Honey Hot' showed the highest plant growth values in the bark treatment. In the second year, the plant growth of the two cultivars was improved in peatmoss. Cocochip treatments showed the lower plant growth values than bark and peatmoss in the first and second year. There was no significant difference among fertilizer amounts in all the media. The higher CEC values of peatmoss medium resulted to higher capacity to hold more nutrients than bark, and the nutrient retention of the peatmoss improved the plant growth. The higher K and Ca contents in the leaves would contribute to improve the plant growth. Consequently, it would be possible to use peatmoss instead of bark for Cymbidium young plants, but there must be always attention to appropriately water the medium and manage the moisture.
This study was carried out to investigate the plant growth of various foliage plants affected by the amount of nitrogen application. There was not an accurate criterion for fertilization to each foliage plant. Moreover, the foliage plants grow slowly during the early stage and this period must be shortened for commercial production. Ficus benjamina, Hedera helix, Philodendron tatei, Rhapis excelsa, and Spathiphyllum spp. were used in this experiment. Nutrient nitrogen concentrations were 120, 150, 180, and $210mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ (N1, N2, N3, N4) and they were based on the Sonneveld solution. Plant height and width, leaf number, leaf area, fresh and dry weights of shoots were measured for 8 weeks to compare the responses to the different treatments. The nitrogen contents of various plant parts were also analyzed. The growth of Ficus and Hedera was improved at the N1 treatment and that of Philodendron, Rhapis and Spathiphyllum at N4 treatment. The required amounts for nitrogen nutrients were different among the various foliage plants. The nitrogen treatments had no effects on SPAD values and there were no correlations between nitrogen treatments and nitrogen contents of plant parts. Therefore, the various foliage plants should supply with each proper nitrogen treatments to grow faster with better quality. In this case, the plant growth played a more important role than nitrogen levels of plant parts in deciding the proper nitrogen levels for each foliage plant.

In this study we examined the preferences of college life factors for students at Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries(KNCAF). Analytical techniques of unstructured data used opinion mining and text mining techniques, and the results of text mining were visualized as word cloud. And those results were used for statistical analysis of the students' willingness to farm after graduation. The items of the favorable survey consisted of 10 items in 5 areas including university image, self-capacity, dormitory, education system, and future vision. After classifying the emotions of positive and negative in the collected questionnaire, a dictionary of positive and negative was created to evaluate the preference. The items of 'college image' at the time of university support, 'self after 10 years' after graduation, 'self-capacity' and 'present KNCAF' showed high positive emotion. On the other hand, positive emotion was low in the items of 'college dormitory', 'educational course', 'long-term field practice' and 'future of Korean agriculture'. In the cross-analysis of the difference in the will to farming according to gender, farming base, and entrance motivation, the will to farm according to gender and entrance motivation showed statistically significant results, but it was not significant in farming base. Also in binary logistic regression analysis on the will to farming, the statistically significant variable was found to be 'motivation for admission'
