  • Climate change is already impacting sustainable water resource management. The influence of climate change on water supply from reservoirs has been generally assessed using climate change scenarios generated based on global climate models. However, inherent uncertainties exist due to the limitations of estimating climate change by assuming IPCC carbon emission scenarios. The decision scaling approach was applied to mitigate these issues in this study focusing on four reservoir watersheds: Chungju, Yongdam, Hapcheon, and Seomjingang reservoirs. The reservoir water supply reliablity was analyzed by combining the rainfall-runoff model (IHACRES) and the reservoir operation model based on HEC-ResSim. Water supply reliability analysis was aimed at ensuring the stable operation of dams, and its results ccould be utilized to develop either structural or non-structural water supply plans. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to assess potential risks that might arise during the operation of reserviors under various climate conditions. Using observed precipitation and temperature from 1995 to 2014, 49 climate stress scenarios were developed (7 precipitation scenarios based on quantiles and 7 temperature scenarios ranging from 0℃ to 6℃ at 1℃ intervals). Our study demonstrated that despite an increase in flood season precipitation leading to an increase in reservoir discharge, it had a greater impact on sustainable water management compared to the increase in non-flood season precipitation. Furthermore, in scenarios combining rainfall and temperature, the reliability of reservoir water supply showed greater variations than the sum of individual reliability changes in rainfall and temperature scenarios. This difference was attributed to the opposing effects of decreased and increased precipitation, each causing limitations in water and energy-limited evapotranspiration. These results were expected to enhance the efficiency of reservoir operation.

  • Government plans to construct a double-deck tunnel under a portion of Gyeongbu Expressway that will solve traffic problems and could also be used as a flood storage facility. Divergence tunnels connect the main tunnel to the urban areas and their construction effects on adjacent structures at shallow depth need to be analyzed. This study primarily includes the numerical analysis of construction effects of divergence tunnels on utility tunnels. The utility tunnel was analyzed for three cases of volume loss applied to the divergence tunnel and two cases of the angle between main tunnel and divergence tunnel ($36^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$). The results show that the more the volume loss was applied and the shorter the distance was between utility tunnel and divergence tunnel, the more the utility tunnel was affected in terms of induced displacements, angular displacement and stability. The worst scenario was found out to be the one where the angle between main tunnel and divergence tunnel was $36^{\circ}$ and the distance between divergence tunnel and utility tunnel was 10 m, resulting in the largest displacement and differential settlement at the bottom of the utility tunnel. A relationship between the angular displacement and the distance to diameter ratio was also established.

  • Integrated numerical approaches with physically-based conceptualization are required for accurate urban inundation simulation. In this study, we described, applied and analyzed an integrated 1-dimensional (1D) sewerage system and 2-dimensional (2D) surface flow model, which was suggested by Lee et al. (2015). This model was developed based on dual-drainage concept, and uses storm drains as an discharge exchange spot rather than manholes so that interaction phenomena between surface flow and sewer pipe flow are physically reproduced. In addition, the building block concept which prevents inflows from outside structures is applied in order to consider building effects. The capability of the model is demonstrated via reproducing the past flooding event at the Sadang-cheon River catchment, Seoul, South Korea. The results show the plausible causes of the inundation could be analysed in detail by integrated 1D-2D modeling.

  • Generally, water is taken through channels and rivers, in which there are many weirs and structures, which cross rivers and temporally hold up water. But this way has its own shortcomings. It is main reason that the water flows through structures, and backwater come into being. So it causes many water quality problems and some flood side-effects and so on. In this study, among the various movable weirs, we installed bottom-discharged and air pressure movable weir in the experimental channel. And we analyzed flowing influence, which is followed by the angle variation of movable weir. We also make further study the flow characteristic variation followed by installing entrance at the bottom to discharge the bottom water. The analysis result was that installed weir angle was increased, and the discharge also gradually increased. The installed weir angle depended on the water quantity, which can be excluded in the bottom. In case of velocity, there was increased as maximum 21.9 times, according to there is entrance or not at the bottom. And in case of water level, it showed the water level of locally above the average decrease in the upper river of weir.

  • Precipitation has a wide range of applications, such as the management and operation of dams and rivers, supply of dranking water for urban and industrial complex, farming and fishing, forest greening, and safety management. In order to prepare for disasters and to obtain economical effects in case of flood damage, it is necessary to measure accurate precipitation. In this study, we carried out the characteristics tests for various types of rainfall gauge using integrated verification system, which can analyze the performance of collective type rainfall gauge. The uncertainty for tipping bucket rain gauge was 0.2887 mm. Therefore, it can be seen that the uncertainty is calculated differently depending on the characteristics of the rainfall gauges. The uncertainty is also influenced greatly by the resolution.

  • The HEC-HMS model was applied to identify the rainfall-runoff processes for the Anseongchun basin, where the lower part of the stream has been damaged severely by tropical storms in the past. Modeling processes include incorporating with the SCS-CN model for loss, Clark's UH model for transformation, exponential recession model for baseflow, and Muskingum model for channel routing. The parameters were calibrated through an optimization technique using a trial and error method. Sensitivity analysis after calibration was performed to understand the effects of parameters, such as the time of concentration, storage coefficient, and base flow related constants. Two storm water events were simulated by the model and compared with the corresponding observations. Good accuracy in predicting the runoff volume, peak flow, and the time to peak flow was achieved using the selected methods. The results of this study can be used as a useful tool for decision makers to determine a master plan for regional flood control management.

  • A physical-based aggregation method was suggested to estimate surface roughness, which adequately represents the spatial heterogeneity of vegetation factors, from land cover property obtained from the remote sensing data. For the sensitivity analysis of surface roughness, the peak flow, peak time, and total volume were simulated by the NWS-PC. Effects of surface roughness estimated by three different integration methods (predominant, arithmetic mean, and aggregation approach) on the conceptual rainfall-runoff model parameters was analyzed. In the preliminary sensitivity test to surface roughness, the peak time had 10% variation and total volume had 2% variation. The peak time increased with surface roughness. A physical-based aggregation method was better than the existing method in the Soyanggang Dam basin for the results of STDEV, RMSE, NSE, and PME, but difference between them were small. The parameters related on the total baseflow were changed significantly with change of the surface roughness.

  • Nowadays, it is possible to construct the DEMs of urban area effectively and economically by LiDAR system. But the data from LiDAR system has form of DSM which is included various objects as trees and buildings. So the preprocess is necessary to extract the DEMs from LiDAR DSMs for particular purpose as effects analysis of man-made objects for flood prediction. As this study is for extracting DEM from LiDAR DSM of urban area, we detected the edges of various objects using edge detecting algorithm of image process. And, we tried mean value filtering, median value filtering and minimum value filtering or detected edges instead of interpolation method which is used in the previous study and could be modified the source data. it could minimize the modification of source data, and the extracting process of DEMs from DSMs could be simplified and automated.

  • rate of outflow is equated to the total rate of flow, both the state equation and its linearized equation yield almost identical oscillations of water levels. This shows that effects of pipe resistance on the surges are small, and justifies a free oscillation analysis. Free oscillation equation has six eigen modes of different periods, including a rigid mode which is existed when the pumped rate of outflow differs from the total rate of inflow. The six modes constitute a variety of surges dependent on different inflow and outflow conditions. Presence of the rigid mode needs sophisticated pump operations adjusted to real flood inflows.

  • This study investigated the changes of consciousness and ambivalent attitudes about the important environmental issues among the teachers who enrolled the environmental education training. Experimental and control groups were composed with 47 and 30 person, respectively. Environmental issues were constructions of sea-wall, nuclear power plant and dam. Cronbach alpha of the self-developed questionnaire was $0.6909{\sim}0.8992$. Score were made with 5 Likert scales for consciousness, and with semantic differential half scale for ambivalent attitudes. Almost teachers(94.0% and 97.1%) have above 10 years teaching career. Strangers in environmental program were 53.2%. After environmental training, teachers' consciousness was significantly changed to negative about the construction of sea-wall for the farm field and industry complex area(p=0.019), and about the construction of dam for disaster like flood(p=0.026), and for adverse effects of citizen by fog(p=0.042). They were also significantly changed to negative about the construction of nuclear power plant for economical energy(p=0.004)', no-emission of greenhouse gases(p=0.033)', 'alternative energy(p=0.000)', 'destruction of ecology(p=0.052)' and 'social fear(p=0.009)'. The consciousness of teachers who have the experience of environmental training, were significantly changed to negative about the construction of nuclear power plant. Scores of teachers' ambivalent attitudes were made lower in experimental than control group about the construction of sea-wall and nuclear power plant. After education training, they were made lower so much as -10.0% in control, but higher much as +4.4% in experimental, and severely higher much as 86.5% in teachers who had experienced the environmental training about construction of sea-wall. Their scores were made lower so much as -3.3% in control, but much as -6.4% in control.
