A moon-pool is a vertical well in a floating barge, drilling ship, or offshore support vessel. In this study, numerical simulation of two-dimensional moon-pool flaw coupled with a ship's motion in waves is carried out using a particle method, the so-called MPS method. The particle method, which is recognized as one of the gridless methods, was developed to investigate nonlinear free-surface motions interacting with structures. The method is more feasible and effective than convectional grid methods in order to solve a flaw field with complicated boundary shapes.
A floating wind turbine dynamic simulation program, WindHydro, is newly developed taking into account wind inflow and incident wave. WindHydro consists of 5 modules, HDFloat for hydrodynamics, HDProp for hydrodynamic property calculation, HDMoor for mooring dynamics, AeroDyn for aerodynamics, DAFUL for multi-body dynamics with nonlinear elasticity, and interface program that connects each calculation module. A turbulent wind and regular wave load case is simulated for the 5-MW OC3-Hywind with a spar bouy platform and catenary mooring lines. The results are compared with the results of the FAST(developed by NREL). As a result, the overall system responses from WindHydro and FAST agree well although some differences in the generator responses are observed.
This paper deals with numerical analyses in the context of estimations of hydrodynamic motions and dynamic loads for a floating type offshore platform using some exclusive simulation code such as code for the simulation of a floating type of offshore crane based on multi-body dynamics, along with the commercial code AQWA. Verifications of numerical models are carried out by comparing the RAO results from the simulation code. In the verification analyses, hydrodynamic motions are examined in the frequency domain for the floating type offshore platform according to the mooring lines. Both the hydrodynamic motions and dynamic loads are estimated for floating type offshore platforms equipped with the catenary type and taut mooring lines. A review and comparison are carried out for the numerically estimated results. The structural safety of the connection parts in an offshore structure such as a floating type offshore platform is one of the most important design criteria in view of fatigue life. The dynamic loads in the connecting area between a floating type offshore platform and its mooring lines are estimated in detail according to variations in the mechanical properties of the mooring lines. The dynamic tension load on the mooring lines is also estimated.

The floating breakwater generally has an excellent water exchanging capability, but with some lowering harbor tranquility due to the wave transmission underneath floating body. In the initial stage of design, it is thus required to investigate several alternatives of breakwater layout for their performance of harbor tranquility. The present study aims to formulate a sort of reflection-transmission boundary condition of floating breakwater so that the existing numerical method using time dependent mild slope equation can still be applied to the case of floating breakwaters. The two and three dimensional tests were each performed to demonstrate the performance of the boundary condition. It was found that the reflection and transmission characteristics around the breakwater were well reproduced by the boundary condition. Finally, the reflection-transmission boundary condition were applied to a floating breakwater installed in an imaginary harbor with an irregular shape and bottom topography. The results surely showed that the present numerical method can effectively used in practical works related to the real sea construction of floating breakwaters.
The motion of a floating OWC chamber in waves is studied taking account of fluctuating air pressure in the air chamber. An atmospheric pressure drop occurs across the upper opening of the chamber which causes not only hydrodynamic but also pneumatic added mass and damping forces to the floating chamber. A velocity potential in the water due to the free surface oscillating pressure patch is added to the conventional radiation-diffraction potential problem. the potential problem inside the chamber is formulated by making use of the Green integral equation associated with the Rankine Green function wile the outer problem with the Kelvin Green function. The two integral equations are solved simultaneously by making use of a matching boundary condition at the lower opening of the chamber to the outer water region. The chamber motion in the frequency domain is calculated for various values of parameters related to the atmospheric pressure drop. The present methods can also be sued for the analysis of air-cushion vehicle motion as well as for the design of a floating OWC wave energy absorber.

In order to develop a floating breakwater, which can efficiently control long period waves, vertical plates are attached in pontoon. Wave control and dynamic behaviors of the newly developed vertical plates type are verified from numerical analysis and hydraulic experiment. As a result, for the wave control and energy dissipation, the newly developed vertical plates type is more efficient than the conventional pontoon type. For the floating body motion, the wave transmission, depending on incident wave period, is decreased at the natural frequency. Dimensionless drift distance has similar trend of the reflection rate of wave transformation near natural frequency except maximum and minimum values. Dimensionless maximum tension is 17 percent of the weight of floating breakwater in case of the conventional pontoon type and 18 percent or 14 percent in case of the newly developed vertical plates type. Thus, it is shown that the wave control is improved by the vertical plates type. In addition, by adjusting the interval of the front and back vertical plate, we would control proper wave control.

This study is aimed to develop the dynamic analysis technique for a floating aquaculture in a shallow water region under the harsh sea condition. In case of the installation region to transform from a coastal area to the offshore area, the influence of sea bed with sea waves on the mooring lines was announced to be significant by other authors. In this study, the numerical tool was developed to solve dynamic behavior of the floating barge coupled with mooring lines in a shallow zone of the sea considering the influence of sea bed on the floating system.
This paper presents the concept design procedure of a floating-type combined renewable energy platform based on hydrodynamic analyses and is focused on the fatigue design of taut-type mooring lines of the platform. Two types of combined renewable energy platforms are considered: a combination of wind turbine, wave turbine and photovoltaic energy plant and a combination of wind turbine, current turbine and photovoltaic energy plant. The basic configurations are conceptually determined from the understanding of floating offshore plants, while the main dimensions have been determined based on a hydrostatic calculation. Fully coupled hydrodynamic analyses have been carried out to identify the motion characteristics of the floating body and the tension histories of the mooring lines. The tension history is used for the fatigue life prediction based on the rain-flow cycle counting method. For the fatigue life prediction, tension life curves from API and the Palmgren-Miner rule are employed.

Wave energy generation system is sorted as oscillating water chamber type, over topping device type and wave activating body type. The wave activating body type converts from wave energy to kinetic of the machine one and the power generation amount increases while the motion of a activating body increases. In this paper the wave energy convertor consists of a main body which has a generation system and the activating body. They are connected by a bar type bridge. The twisting moment and angular velocity at a shaft of convertor are calculated when various condition of the incident wave, a diversity of connection methods between the main body and the activating body. It can be used as basic idea for determining the design of wave activating body type convertor.
