플립러닝과 디자인씽킹을 적용한 건축공학종합설계 교육과정 개발 (Development of Capstone Design Curriculum in Architectural Engineering that Applies Flipped Learning and Design Thinking)

  • In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a new curriculum that breaks away from the existing education programs is needed to cultivate men of talent for this new industrial era. In this regard, this study aimed to develop innovative curriculums that can be applied to the capstone design of architectural engineering at universities in Korea. To this end, it analyzed the operational status of the capstone design curriculum of domestic universities that operate engineering certification education programs. In addition, it examined educational innovation cases of advanced universities at home and abroad, and analyzed other studies related to educational renovation. Based on the analysis results, it developed the capstone design curriculum of architectural engineering that can be applied to domestic universities. The curriculum was developed into two contents: operating method and syllabus. The method which has been commonly applied to domestic universities was adopted as the operating method. The syllabus was developed by applying flipped learning and design thinking theory, which has widely been dealt with in advanced universities and recent studies. In addition, the curriculum was developed in the form of a prototype to meet the conditions of each university for its efficient utilization.

Indonesian plastic surgeons' attitude during early period of the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Background: This study aims to report how the practice of plastic surgeons and their attitude was during the first measure period of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: A survey study was held among members of the Indonesian Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons during week 5 after the first report of COVID-19. A 10 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 1 essay covered key questions on the area of surgery and operating room, clinics, internal meeting, and consultation. The only open-ended question relates to the last MCQ addresses a future "flipped" medical practice. Results: Response rate was 45.6% among 228 members, with 89.4% did no practice or limited their service to emergency and urgent cases only. Only 1.9% kept their official meeting as usual, while the majority modified it. The practice in the operating theatre and clinic were also altered to comply with the measures; with 21.2% from the total respondents only allowed patients with exposure to come for visit after taking 14 days of self-quarantine. Teleconsultation was practiced by 50% of the respondents, while 41.3% agreed and 10.6% disagreed upon the future "flipped" medical practice. Conclusion: In general plastic surgeons have made supportive actions during the pandemic. Surgery was performed with all precautions at the utmost as a reflection of high alert of viral infection. Teleconsultation has been embraced via existing social media. Agreement upon the future "flipped" medical practice is reasonable. All in all, the actions were considered as most relevant.

국내 대학생에게 적용한 플립러닝의 체계적 고찰 및 메타분석 - 자기주도학습, 학습동기, 효능감, 학업성취도를 중심으로 - (A systematic review and meta-analysis of flipped learning among university students in Korea: Self-directed learning, learning motivation, efficacy, and learning achievement)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to provide a systematic review and meta-analysis of research on flipped learning effects applied to university students. Methods: The random effect model was applied to 21 papers to calculate the effect size. To verify the moderation effect, a meta regression analysis and meta ANOVA were performed. Publication bias was verified through a funnel plot, and then an Egger's regression test was conducted. Results: The overall average effect size was .69 (95% CI: .51-.87), showing a median effect size, which was statistically significant. The outcome variables were in the order of learning motivation (Hedges' g=.83), self-directed learning (Hedges' g=.78), learning achievement (Hedges' g=.66), and efficacy (Hedges' g=.50), which were statistically significant. Conclusion: Flipped learning was found to be statistically significant in improving self-directed learning, learning motivation, efficacy, and learning achievement amng university students. It is suggestd that this method be actively applied in university education.

거꾸로 문제중심학습(FPBL)을 적용한 가정과 수업이 중학생의 메타인지에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Home Economics Instruction Applying Flipped and Problem-Based Learning on Middle-School Students' Metacognition Skill)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of Home Economics Instruction applying Flipped and Problem-Based Learning (FPBL) on Korean middle-school students' metacognition skill. The study uses a pre-post design test of the same group. There were 151 participants (77 male and 74 female) who were middle-school students in the third grade. Two hours of classes on 'Food Selection and Storage' were given per week for three weeks - a total of six hours. Analysis using the t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test, supporting the conclusion that participating in the class improved the metacognition, food selection, and storage behavior scores of the middle-school students. All area scores and overall averages of metacognitive sub-elements such as planning, monitoring, regulation, and evaluation also improved after taking FPBL classes. From the results of this study, Home Economics Instruction applying FPBL is an effective teaching method for improving middle-school students' metacognition.

An Exploratory Case Study on Types of Teaching and Learning with Digital Textbook in Primary Schools

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the types of lesson and its effectiveness with digital textbook. To address those goals, we had observed five classes of the primary school, which designated as a research pilot school for digital textbook. Based on the result of observation, 3 types of lesson with digital textbook were categorized: Teacher-directed lecture (type 1), Blended learning (type 2), and Flipped learning (type 3). Depending on the type of lesson was analyzed the positive and negative effectiveness by means of matrix analysis method. As a result, in Teacher-directed lecture (type 1), there was found out the participation of the lesson in atmosphere of stable and comfortable as positive experience, also digital textbook operating immature and boring as negative experience. In Blended learning (type 2), there was found out the fun by sharing the product and peer feedback, and flow by learning transfer as positive experience, also digital textbook operating immature and understanding the difference between assignments as negative experience. In Flipped learning (type 3), there was shown the positive attitude and ownership in the lesson as positive experience, also distracting and boring in the lesson when learner was excluded in participation as negative experience. Based on the results, we suggested some strategies for improving positive experience and protecting negative experience in the lesson with using digital textbook.

Effectiveness of goal-based scenarios for out-of-class activities in flipped classrooms: A mixed-methods study

  • Flipped classroom (FC) has gained attention as an active learning approach. Designing effective out-of-class activities to help prepare students for in-class activities is fundamental for successful implementation of FC. This study investigated the effectiveness of Goal-Based Scenarios (GBS) for out-of-class learning in FC. Four out of twelve units in a medical humanities course for Year 2 medical students was redesigned into a FC format, where e-learning modules were designed using a GBS approach for out-of-class activities and classroom debates were implemented for in-class activities. The other eight units were delivered in a conventional classroom debate format, which included reading text materials as pre-class assignments. A formative evaluation study was conducted using questionnaires and interview methods and students' academic achievements were evaluated by comparing their pre- and post-test scores between FC and conventional units. Students had positive perceptions of the e-learning modules in GBS approach and preferred the structure of learning in the FC format. Students' pre-test scores were slightly higher in the FC units, yet their post-test scores were comparable with conventional units. This study illustrates students' perceptions that the learning was bettered structured in FC and that the out-of-class learning using the GBS approach helped them better prepared for in-class activities.

플립드 러닝에서 수업시연을 통한 미국 초등 예비교사의 자기 효능감 향상 방안: 다문화 배경 영어학습자 대상 ESL 수업시연을 중심으로 (Promoting self-efficacy through microteaching in a flipped classroom in US teacher education: focusing on elementary pre-service teacher's ESL teaching for culturally and linguistically diverse English language learners)

  • 초등예비교사들이 다문화 배경 학습자를 가르쳐 그들의 학업성취도를 높이는 것이 국가적 과제로 떠올랐다. 본 연구는 초등 예비교사를 양성하는 미국 대학의 예비교사들이 수업시연을 통해 다문화 배경 영어학습자를 가르칠 때 어떻게 자기 효능감이 향상되는지 고찰하였다. 대학의 수업을 플립드 러닝으로 설계하여 수업 전에 내용을 미리 학습한 뒤, 실제 수업시간에는 다문화 배경 영어학습자 대상 예비교사들의 ESL 수업시연을 연습하였다. 예비교사의 ESL 수업시연 동영상, 예비교사의 감상문 및 담당교수 인터뷰를 분석한 결과, 내용교과를 가르치는 초등학교 교실에서 다문화 배경 영어학습자를 잘 가르칠 수 있도록 예비교사들은 적절하게 준비되고 있다고 느꼈으며 자기 효능감이 향상되었다. 또한, 본 연구는 교사 교육자들이 플립드 러닝을 활용하여 수업시연과 같은 실제적인 학습 경험을 제공하여 다문화 배경 영어학습자를 잘 가르칠 수 있도록 예비교사를 준비시키는 방안을 덧붙였다. 마지막으로 이상의 연구를 한국의 상황에 적용하여 국제화 시대에 한국의 예비교사들도 다문화 학생을 가르칠 수 있도록 교사양성기관에서 준비될 필요가 있음을 지적하였다.

플립드러닝 기반 PBL 모형 중학교 영어 수업의 효과 (Effectiveness of PBL Based on Flipped Learning for Middle School English Classes)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 플립드러닝 기반의 PBL(Problem-Based Learning) 수업 모형을 활용하여 중학교 영어 수업을 개발하고, 그 효과를 살펴보는 데에 있다. 최근 들어서, 플립드러닝과 PBL을 결합하려는 시도가 다양하게 이루어지고 있지만, 중고등학교 교과 수업에의 적용 연구는 아직 많지 않은 상황이며, 이에 본 연구의 시도는 이론적, 실제적 의의가 있을 것으로 기대한다. 수업 모형은 선행연구 검토를 통해 구체화시켰고, 수업 개발은 일반적 설계 절차(분석-설계-개발-실행-평가)를 따랐으며, 관련 전문가들의 자문으로 타당성을 확보하였다. 수업의 효과를 검증하기 위하여 영어 학업성취도 검사와 영어과 핵심역량 검사를 수업 처치 사전과 사후에 실시하였다. 영어 학업성취도 변화는 대응표본 t 검증의 방법으로 분석하였고, 핵심역량과 성취도 검사 수행 수준(상위, 하위)이 사전-사후 점수 변화에 미치는 효과의 양상은 혼합모형 반복측정 분산분석의 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 학업성취도와 핵심역량 모두 상승하였으며, 성취도 검사 하위 집단의 학생들이 상대적으로 더 큰 폭의 향상을 보였다. 결론적으로 플립드러닝 기반 PBL 수업은 중학생의 영어 학업성취도와 핵심역량 향상에 효과적인 것으로 보이며, 특히, 학업 성취도가 낮은 학생들에게도 효과적인 수업 방법으로 나타났다.

강의와 팀 활동을 조합한 컴퓨터학 과목의 플립러닝 기반 설계 (Design of Computer Science and Engineering Courses based on Flipped Learning through Integrating Lectures and Team Activities)

  • 플립러닝은 전통적인 교실 안 활동과 교실 밖 활동을 바꾸는 수업 방식으로, 기존에 교실 안에서 배우던 내용을 수업 전에 학생이 스스로 학습해온 후 교실에서는 기존에 교실 밖에서 하던 과제를 수행하는 방식을 말한다. 교수자의 도움을 받고 팀 동료와 협력하며 과제를 수행할 수 있다는 장점 때문에 컴퓨터학 과목에도 점차 널리 적용되고 있다. 하지만 수업 내용을 교실 밖에서 학생 홀로 학습해야 하므로 심화 내용에 대한 이해가 떨어진다는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 플립러닝의 단점을 보완하고 장점도 유지하기 위해 플립러닝과 전통적인 수업을 조합하는 방식을 제안한다. 이 방식에서는 수업 전에 기초 개념에 대한 학습을 학생 스스로 하도록 하고, 심화 내용은 교실 안에서 교수자의 강의와 도움을 통해 배우도록 한다. 이처럼 심화 내용을 익힌 후에는 팀 활동을 통해 배운 내용을 응용하는 문제를 풀어보고 해법을 공유한다. 제안한 방식은 컴퓨터학 4개 과목에 1~4개 학기에 걸쳐 적용해 보았으며, 학생들의 학업 성취도와 만족도를 개선함을 확인할 수 있었다. 제안한 방식이 더 많은 컴퓨터학 과목에 활용되어 좋은 수업을 만드는 데 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

건강사정실습 수업에서의 플립러닝이 간호대학생의 학업적 자기효능감, 성취목표, 인지적 관여에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Flipped Learning in Health and Physical Assessment Practice Classes on Academic Self-efficacy, Achievement Goal, Cognitive Engagement of Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 플립러닝 교수-학습법이 간호대학생의 학업적 자기효능감, 성취목표, 인지적 관여에 미치는 효과를 확인해보기 위해 시도된 단일군 전·후 실험설계의 유사실험 연구이다. 2학년 학생을 대상으로 건강사정실습 수업 5차시, 10시간 동안 플립러닝을 적용하였으며 연구에 동의하고 전·후 설문에 응답한 91명의 자료를 분석하였다. 자료수집은 2022년 9월 26일부터 11월 25일까지 이루어졌으며 자료분석은 SPSS WIN 24.0을 이용하여 기술통계와 paired t-test를 실시하였다. 연구결과 학업적 자기효능감의 하위영역인 학습 자기효능감은 사전 21.22±5.09에서 사후 25.27±5.02로(t=-5.445, p<.001), 인지적 관여는 사전 32.44±9.04에서 사후 35.12±8.29로(t=-2.120, p=.035) 상승하여 통계적으로 유의하였다. 따라서 플립러닝 교수-학습법은 학생들의 학습 자기효능감과 인지적 관여에 효과가 있었다. 그러나 일반화 및 연구설계의 제한점이 있어 반복 연구가 필요하며 간호대학생의 학습 능력과 임상 수행 능력을 향상시키기 위한 다양한 교수-학습 전략을 활용할 수 있는 방안들에 대한 탐색이 필요하다.
