  • The objective of this paper is to present trajectory guidance and control system with a dynamic inversion for a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The UAV model is expressed by fixed-mass rigid-body six-degree-of-freedom equations of motion, which include the detailed aerodynamic coefficients, the engine model and the actuator models that have lags and limits. A trajectory is generated from the given waypoints using cubic spline functions of a flight distance. The commanded values of an angle of attack, a sideslip angle, a bank angle and a thrust, are calculated from guidance forces to trace the flight trajectory. To adapt various waypoint locations, a proportional navigation is combined with the guidance system. By the decision logic, appropriate guidance law is selected. The flight control system to achieve the commands is designed using a dynamic inversion approach. For a dynamic inversion controller we use the two-timescale assumption that separates the fast dynamics, involving the angular rates of the aircraft, from the slow dynamics, which include angle of attack, sideslip angle, and bank angle. Some numerical simulations are conducted to see the performance of the proposed guidance and control system.

  • This paper analyzed flight trajectory characteristics of ballistic missiles considering effects of drag forces. It is difficult to intercept ballistic missiles which fly over atmosphere with supersonic speeds and small radar cross section (RCS). In particular, the velocities in the phases of boost and terminal are changed significantly due to the steep variation of the drag force. Therefore, in order to build up a successful ballistic missile defense systems, the effects of the drag forces should be considered in the analysis of ballistic missile trajectory characteristics. In this point of view, this work analyzed the effects of drag forces and derived the flight trajectory characteristics of Scud B, C and Nodong missiles. Model of the ballistic missile flight trajectory is considered the effects of Coriolis and centrifugal forces, and specifications of the missiles are open sources.

  • For monitoring the flight trajectory and the status of a launch vehicle, the mission control system in NARO space center process data acquired from the ground tracking system, which consists of two tracking radars, four telemetry stations, and one electro-optical tracking system. Each tracking unit exhibits its own tracking error mainly due to multi-path, clutter and radio refraction, and by utilizing only one among transmitted informations, it is not possible to determine the actual vehicle trajectory. This paper presents a way of generating flight trajectory via post-processing the data received from the ground tracking system. The post-processing algorithm is divided into two parts: compensation for atmosphere radio refraction and multi-sensor fusion, for which a decentralized Kalman filter was adopted and implemented based on constant acceleration model. Applications of the present scheme to real data resulted in the flight trajectory where the tracking errors were minimized than done by any one sensor.

  • Contrast to the 6-DOF nonlinear dynamic modeling of nonlinear tracking problem, 3-DOF point-mass modeling of flight mechanics is efficient and adequate for applying the trajectory optimization problem. There exist limitations to apply an optimal trajectory from point-mass modeling as a reference trajectory directly to conduct the nonlinear tracking control, In this paper, new matching trajectory optimization scheme is proposed to compensate those differences of mismatching. To verify performance of proposed method, full ascent three-dimensional flight trajectories are obtained by reflecting the real constraints of flight conditions and airship performance with and without jet stream condition. Then, they are compared with the optimal trajectories obtained from conventional method.

  • The flight safety system for the satellite launch vehicles is required in order to minimize the risk due to launch vehicle failure. For prompt and reliable decision of flight termination, the flight safety system usually uses multiple sensors to estimate launch vehicle's flight trajectory. In that case, multiple types of observed tracking data makes it difficult to identify the flight termination condition. Therefore, a fusion tracking filter handling the multiple tracking data is necessary for the flight safety system. This research developed a simulation software for generating multiple types of launch vehicle tracking data, and then processed the data with fusion filters.

  • The missile early-warning satellite systems have been developed and upgraded by some space-developed nations, under the inevitable trend that the space is more strongly considered as another battle field than before. As the key function of such a satellite-based early warning system, the prediction algorithm of the missile flight trajectory is studied in the paper. In particular, the evolution computation, receiving broad attention in the artificial intelligence area, is applied to the proposed prediction method so that the global optimum-like solution is found avoiding disadvantage of the previous non-linear optimization search tools. Moreover, using the prediction simulator of the launch vehicle flight trajectory which is newly developed in C# and Python, the paper verifies the performance and the feature of the proposed algorithm.

  • The Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), also known as Danuri, successfully entered its mission orbit on December 27, 2022 (UTC), and is currently performing its mission smoothly. To mitigate potential contingencies during the flight and to navigate the spacecraft into the desired lunar orbit, the KPLO flight dynamics (FD) team analyzed major trajectory-related contingencies that could lead to the violation of mission requirements and prepared operational procedures from the perspective of trajectory and FD. This paper presents the process of preparing contingency trajectory operations for the KPLO, including the identification of trajectory contingencies, prioritization results, and the development of recovery plans and operational procedures. The prepared plans were successfully applied to address minor contingencies encountered during actual operations. The results of this study will provide valuable insights to FD engineers preparing for space exploration mission operations.

  • This paper presents the analysis results of trajectory, performance and attitude control based on the first flight data of the KSLV-I. The KSLV-I had a fairing separation problem and failed to inject spacecraft into the orbit. In this paper, the trajectory, flight performance, and attitude control was analyzed considering the influence of unseparated fairing. Moreover, the flight results and performance of the inertial navigation and guidance system were presented. As a results of post-flight analysis, any other problem besides the fairing separation problem was not happened and onboard equipment functioned normally.

  • Trajectory modeling is foundational for 4D-Route modeling, conflict detection and air traffic flow management. This paper proposes a novel algorithm based Vincenty's fomulas for trajectory calculation, combined with the Dijkstra algorithm and Vincenty's formulas. Using flight plan simulations our experimental results show that our method of En-route trajectory calculation exhibits much improved performance in accuracy.

  • The CSCM Upwind method and Material Transport Analysis(MTA) have been used to predict the thermal response and shape changes for charring/non-charring material which can be used as thermal protection material(TPM) on blunt-body nose tip. We performed intensive flight trajectory simulations to compare 1-D MTA results with those of 2-D/Axisymmetric MTA by using MTAs and Navier-Stokes code. Theheat-transfer rate and pressure distribution were predicted at selected altitudes and wall temperature along the flight trajectory and the shape changes of blunt-body nose tip were predicted subsequently by using current procedure.
