A Study on Regulation for Domestic Airspace Operation of Foreign Registered FTB Aircraft (해외도입 FTB 항공기의 국내 운용을 위한 제도 고찰)

  • Recently avionics equipment and its integration are most important part for implementing high performance aircraft system. This trends are emphasized in the military or special purpose aircraft development program. Flight Test Bed Aircraft (hereafter FTB A/C) - by modified commercial aircraft - was key solution to verify function and performance of avionics system for complex aircraft development program for a while, but there are no experience to use it in domestic airspace of ROK. This paper would like to address what act and regulation is necessary to perform flight operation of FTB A/C with keeping a airworthiness and airspace control policy. and then willing to propose what do we do for improving aviation industry.

  • Recently, active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, electro-optical and infrared (EO-IR) and infra-red search and track (IRST) sensors are under development in the Korean fighter experimental(KF-X) project, and AESA radar is currently undergoing preliminary research for flight testing. This paper focuses on the flying test bed (FTB) aircraft operation cases of developed countries in accordance with AESA radar development. As a result, we review domestic laws and regulations related to the airworthiness for FTB aircraft to operate in domestic environment and look for ways to operate FTB aircraft. Therefore, we propose how to selecting, airworthiness and operating FTB aircraft suitable for the domestic environment.

  • In this paper, a simulation test bed is presented which operates to provide full-scale simulation of airborne multi-function phased array radars. This simulation test bed provides a capability to evaluate the target tracking performance. To realize aircraft operation scenario, we developed 6DOF aircraft dynamics model which can generate trajectories and attitude of an aircraft. This procedure includes steady state flight trim search, autopilot design, and aircraft guidance command design. Also, the radar-environment integrated simulator includes target detection/measurement model and tracking filter. Developed simulator is validated by creating an air-to-air scenario.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation scheme of HTS(Helmet Tracking System) providing coincident LOS(Line of Sight) between aircraft and HMD(Helmet Mounted Display) which displays flight and mission information on Pilot helmet. The functionality and performance of HMD system depends on the performance of helmet tracking system. The target of HTS system design is to meet real-time performance and reliability by predicting non-periodic latency and high accuracy performance. To prove an availability of a proposed approach, a robust hybrid scheme with a fusion optical and inertial tracking system are tested through a implemented test-bed. Experimental results show real-time and reliable tracking control in spite of external errors.

  • Recently, many studies for interoperability of UAV in the NAS has been performed since the application range and demand of UAV are continuously increased. For the interoperation of UAV in the NAS, technical standards and certification system for UAV which is equivalent to the commercial aircraft are required and test and evaluation methodology must be presented by standards. In this paper, qualification test and evaluation methodology aboutfor the UAV navigation system is proposed. For the research, the mission profile and operation environment of UAV were analyzed. Thereafter the test criteria were derived and the test methodology were established. Finally, the simulation and demonstration using test-bed UAV were performed. As a result of the test, it was confirmed that the navigation system of test UAV has a position accuracy about 1.4 meters at 95% confidence level in the entire flight stage.
