The results of an experimental study on the manufacture and the mechanical properties of fiber reinforced fly ash$\cdot$lime$\cdot$gypsum composites are presented in this paper. 'The composites using fly ash, lime, and gypsum were prepared with various fibers (PAN-derived and Pitch-derived carbon fiber, alkali-resistance glass fiber) and a small amount of polymer emulsion-styrene butadiene rubber latex (SBR). As the test results show, the manufacturing process technology of fly ash$\cdot$lime$\cdot$gypsum composites was developed and its optimum mix proportions were successfully proposed. And the flexural strength and toughness of fiber reinforced fly ash$\cdot$lime $\cdot$gypsum composites were increased remarkably by fiber contents, but the compressive strength of the composites were influenced by the kinds fiber more than by the fiber contents. Also, the addition of a polymer emulsion to the composites decreased the bulk specific gravity, but the compressive and flexural strength, and the toughness of the composites were not influenced by it, but were considerably improved by increasing fiber contents.
Although concrete is the most widely used construction material, its deficiency in shrinkage and low tensile resistance is undeniable. However, the aforementioned defects can be partially modified by addition of fibers. On the other hand, possibility of adding waste materials in concrete has provided a new ground for use of recycled concrete aggregates in the construction industry. In this study, a constant combination of recyclable coarse and fine concrete aggregates was used to replace the corresponding aggregates at 50% substitution percentage. Moreover, in order to investigate the effects of fibers on mechanical and durability properties of recycled aggregate concrete, the amounts of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% steel fibers (ST) and 0.05%, 0.1% and 0.15% polypropylene (PP) fibers by volumes were used individually and in hybrid forms. Compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), water absorption, toughness, elastic modulus and shrinkage of samples were investigated. The results of mechanical properties showed that PP fibers reduced the compressive strength while positive impact of steel fibers was evident both in single and hybrid forms. Tensile and flexural strength of samples were improved and the energy absorption of samples containing fibers increased substantially before and after crack presence. Growth in toughness especially in hybrid fiber-reinforced specimens retarded the propagation of cracks. Modulus of elasticity was decreased by the addition of PP fibers while the contrary trend was observed with the addition of steel fibers. PP fibers decreased the ultrasonic pulse velocity slightly and had undesirable effect on water absorption. However, steel fiber caused negligible decline in UPV and a small impact on water absorption. Steel fibers reduce the drying shrinkage by up to 35% when was applied solely. Using fibers also resulted in increasing the ductility of samples in failure. In addition, mechanical properties changes were also evaluated by statistical analysis of MATLAB software and smoothing spline interpolation on compressive, flexural, and indirect tensile strength. Using shell interpolation, the optimization process in areas without laboratory results led to determining optimal theoretical points in a two-parameter system including steel fibers and polypropylene.

Based on Model Code 2010, flexural and residual strength, flexural toughness of SFRC with design strength of 60 MPa are evaluated. For comparisons, SFRC with design strength 40 MPa was tested. Distribution of steel fibers in crack surface of specimens was evaluated by visual inspection. The used steel fibers were hooked fibers with aspect ratio of 64, 67 and 80. In all specimens, mix ratio of steel fibers was 0.5% Vol. In results, only SFRC with the highest aspect ratio satisfied requirements specified in Model Code 2010. The results demonstrated that the use of high aspect ratio will provide enough flexural toughness for high strength concrete. Also, it is found that low slump of high strength concrete can help to enhance isotropic fiber distribution.

The purpose of this study are to evaluated bond, flexural properties and control of plastic shrinkage cracking of crimped type synthetic fiber with amplitude 6 mm and height 1.8 mm reinforced cement based composites. Bond and flexural test were conducted in accordance with the JCI-SF 8 and JCI SF-4 standard, respectively. The plastic shrinkage cracking test was conducted for evaluating the effect of fiber in reducing shrinkage cracking in cement based composites. Test results indicated that the crimped typel synthetic fibers performed significantly better than the straight type fiber in terms of interface toughness and pullout load and the crimped type synthetic fibers improved the flexural toughness of concrete. Also, the increasing the crimped type synthetic fiber volume fraction from 0.00% to 1.00% improved the plastic shrinkage cracking resistance. Specially, the effect of control of plastic shrinkage cracking is excellent at the more than 0.5% fibre volume fraction.
In this paper, mode I fracture toughness of rock was determined by direct and indirect methods using Particle Flow Code simulation. Direct methods are compaction tension (CT) test and hollow centre cracked quadratic sample (HCCQS). Indirect methods are notched Brazilian disk (NBD) specimen, the semi-circular bend (SCB) specimen, hollow centre cracked disc (HCCD), the single edge-notched round bar in bending (SENRBB) specimen and edge notched disk (END). It was determined that which one of indirect fracture toughness values is close to direct one. For this purpose, initially calibration of PFC was undertaken with respect to data obtained from Brazilian laboratory tests to ensure the conformity of the simulated numerical models response. Furthermore, the simulated models in five introduced indirect tests were cross checked with the results from direct tests. By using numerical testing, the failure process was visually observed. Discrete element simulations demonstrated that the macro fractures in models are caused by microscopic tensile breakages on large numbers of bonded discs. Mode I fracture toughness of rock in direct test was less than other tests results. Fracture toughness resulted from semi-circular bend specimen test was close to direct test results. Therefore semi-circular bend specimen can be a proper test for determination of Mode I fracture toughness of rock in absence of direct test.
Cement composites subjected to high-velocity projectile shows local failure and it can be suppressed by improvement of flexural toughness with reinforcement of fiber. Therefore, researches on impact resistance performance of cement composites are in progress and a number of types of fiber reinforcement are being developed. Since bonding properties of fiber with matrix, specific surface area and numbers of fiber are different by fiber reinforcement type, mechanical properties of fiber reinforced cement composites and improvement of impact resistance performance need to be considered. In this study, improvement of flexural toughness and failure reduction effect by impact of high-velocity projectile have been evaluated according to fiber type by mixing steel fiber, polyamide, nylon and polyethylene which are have different shape and mechanical properties. As results, flexural toughness was improved by redistribution of stress and crack prevention with bridge effect of reinforced fibers, and scabbing by high-velocity impact was suppressed. Since it is possible to decrease scabbing limit thickness from impact energy, thickness can be thinner when it is applied to protection. Scabbing of steel fiber reinforced cement composites was occurred and it was observed that desquamation of partial fragment was suppressed by adhesion between fiber and matrix. Scabbing by high-velocity impact of synthetic fiber reinforced cement composites was decreased by microcrack, impact wave neutralization and energy dispersion with a large number of fibers.

In this study, the nature of brittleness, one of the main problems of GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) Re-bar, is improved. Therefore, Hybrid GFRP Rod is developed by attaching FBG sensor to the new GFRP Rod with toughness, essential for flexural reinforcement of the concrete. The test was performed with specimens of Hybrid GFRP Rod. According to the test, data measured by electric gauge sensor are compared with data measured by FBG sensor.
The influence of nonlinear phenomena on the behavior of stationary forced flexural-gravity waves on the surface of deep water is investigated, when the perturbation of external pressure moves with near-resonant velocity. It is shown that there are three branches of bounded stationary solutions turning into asymptotic solutions of the linear problem with zero initial conditions. For the first time ice sheet destruction by turbulent fluctuations of atmosphere pressure in ice adjacent layer in wind conditions is studied.
This paper dealt with modification of effective crack length model (ECM) by adding Poisson's ratio term to evaluate fracture toughness of asphalt concrete which varies its material property by temperature. The original ECM model was developed for solid materials, such as cement concrete, and Poisson's ratio of materials was not considered. However, since asphalt concrete is sensitive to temperature variation and changes its Poisson's ratio by temperature, it should be taken into consideration to know exact fracture property under various temperatures. Four binders, including 3 polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) binders, were used to make a dense-grade asphalt mixture and 3-point bending test was peformed on notched beam at low temperatures, from -5oC to 35oC. Elastic modulus, flexural strength and fracture toughness were obtained from the test. The results showed that, since Poisson's ratio was considered, the more accurate test values could be obtained using modified ECM equation than original ECM. PMA mixture showed higher stiffness and fracture toughness than normal asphalt mixture under very low temperatures.

This study will not only prove experimental dynamic properties which are classified to slump, compressive strength, tensile strength, flexure strength and toughness granite soil concrete with a fine aggregate of granite soil and blast-furnace cement and polypropylene fiber over 45 mm, but also establish a basic data in order to use environment-friendly pavement through prove useful pavement mixed with granite and polypropylene (PP) fiber which is a kind of material to prevent a dry shrinkage clack, a partial destruction and useful and light. The value of slump test was gradually increased by PP fiber volume 3 $kgf/m^3$, but compressive strength took a sudden turn for the worse from 5 $kgf/m^3$. The compressive strength indicated a range of 13.72~18.35 MPa. On the contrary to compressive strength, the tensile strength showed to decrease with rising PP fiber volume, and the tensile strength indicated a range of 1.43~1.64 MPa. The tensile strength was stronger about 2~15 % in case of mixing with PP fiber volume than normal concrete. The flexural strength indicated a range of 2.76~3.41 MPa. The flexural strength was stronger about 20 % in case of PP fiber volume 0 $kg/m^3$ than PP fiber volume 9 $kg/m^3$. The toughness indicated a range of 0~25.46 $N{\cdot}mm$ and increased proportionally with PP fiber volume. The toughness was stronger about 8.3 times in case of PP fiber volume 9 $kg/m^3$ than PP fiber volume 1 $kg/m^3$. The pavement with PP fiber volume over such a fixed quantity in the park roads and walkways can have a effect to prevent not only resistance against clack but also rip off failures.
