A new type of earthquake-resisting element that consists of a steel plate shear wall with slits is introduced. The infill steel plate is divided into a series of vertical flexural links with vertical links. The steel plate shear walls absorb energy by means of in-plane bending deformation of the flexural links and the energy dissipation capacity of the plastic hinges formed at both ends of the flexural links when under lateral loads. In this paper, finite element analysis and experimental studies at low cyclic loadings were conducted on specimens with steel plate shear walls with multilayer slits. The effects caused by varied slit pattern in terms of slit design parameters on lateral stiffness, ultimate bearing capacity and hysteretic behavior of the shear walls were analyzed. Results showed that the failure mode of steel plate shear walls with a single-layer slit was more likely to be out-of-plane buckling of the flexural links. As a result, the lateral stiffness and the ultimate bearing capacity were relatively lower when the precondition of the total height of the vertical slits remained the same. Differently, the failure mode of steel plate shear walls with multilayer slits was prone to global buckling of the infill steel plates; more obvious tensile fields provided evidence to the fact of higher lateral stiffness and excellent ultimate bearing capacity. It was also concluded that multilayer specimens exhibited better energy dissipation capacity compared with single-layer plate shear walls.
In order to investigate the flexural bearing capacity of panel zone of diaphragm-through joint between concrete filled square steel tubular column and steel beam, four specimens were tested under static tension loads to study the mechanical properties and bearing capacity of diaphragm-through joints with a failure mode of panel zone. Finite element models of these specimens were developed to simulate the test and compare the predicted failure modes, load-displacement curves and bearing capacities with the experimentally observed. It was found that the tensile load from the steel beam flange is mainly shared by the square steel tube and the diaphragm. The diaphragm plastic zone appears along the cross-section lines enclosed by the square steel tube and the influence of steel beam web on the plastic zone of the steel tube is significant and cannot be neglected. Computational models of yield lines on square steel tube and diaphragm are established based on the distribution pattern of the plastic zone, and an analytical method for the evaluation of the bearing capacity of the joint is proposed. The theoretical results and the experimental data are compared and found in good agreement.

In this study, the flexural strength and curvature ductility factor of single and hybrid fiber reinforced ultra high strength concrete flexural members with conventional steel rebar were evaluated by experimental program with 3-UHSC beams. Test specimens were loaded by 4-pointed flexural loading. According to the test results, hybrid fiber reinforced UHPC test specimens had higher moment resisting capacity and ductility. For the safe design of hybrid fiber reinforced UHPC, test specimens were analyzed according to the sectional analysis method with material models suggested by K-UHPC design recommendation. Current K-UHPC design recommendation predict the moment resisting capacity of member conventionally and over-estimated the ductility.

The purpose of this research are to investigate experimentally flexural strengthening effects and flexural behaviour of RC beams strengthened by carbon fiber sheet(CFS) with/without superimposed pre-load. Test parameters of experiment are tension reinforcement ratio(0.85, 1.32, 1.91%) and pre-load(80% of yield capacity of unstrengthened beams). The structural behaviour of strengthened beams are compared with in terms of yield load and ultimate load, load-deflection relation, ductility, strengthened efficiency. From the test results, it were shown that ultimate capacity and flexural failure behaviour of RC beams strengthened by CFS changed by initial stresses between original beams and bonded CFS.

This study discusses the flexural performance of rehabilitated composite sections, consisting originally of R/C beams and subsequently strengthened by, Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Polymers(FRPs) and adhesives. Experimentations were peformed with 8 specimens to compare the rehabilitated effect of the length of FRPs, 2plies of FRPs, and 3plies of FRPs. The results show that the increase of the FRP strengthening length is effective on the flexural capacity and strength. Also, R.C beams retrofitted with hybrid FRPs are more effective on the increase of flexural capacity, strength, stiffness, and ductility than with a single kind of FRPs.

The flexural behavior of a strengthened beam, that is a reinforced. concrete beam with externally bonded fiber sheets, was theoretically and experimentally investigated. The effects of the amount of glass fiber sheets varying from 1 to 4 plies on the flexural capacity of the strengthened beam are also examined. The flexural rigidity of the strengthened beam was enhanced compared with RC beam. In addition, the failure mode and load-deflection relationship for the strengthened beam and the comparison of analysis with experiment are extensive investigated. Finally, the determination of the nominal moment capacity $M_n$ of the strengthened beam will be discussed

This paper was aimed to evaluate the structural performance of flexural members repaired by polymer cement and epoxy mortar at soffit. Main test variables were repair materials, ratio of reinforcement and additional reinforcing bars. Test results shows that the repaired beams could change flexural capacity by materials and additional reinforcing bars. In polymer cement, the section repaired can carry same load, cracking moment and the flexural stiffness of the monolithic beams with same size. In epoxy mortar, all data were greater than the shotcrete. However, note that epoxy mortar may conduct member into brittle failure mode.

An experimental investigation of lightweight aggregate and foamed concrete contribution to the ultimate strength capacity of square and rectangular steel tube sections is presented in this study. Thirty-four simply supported beam specimens, 1000-mm long, filled with lightweight aggregate and foamed concretes were tested in pure flexural bending to calculate the ultimate moment capacity. Normal concrete-filled steel tubular and bare steel sections of identical dimensions were also tested and compared to the filled steel sections. Theoretical values of ultimate moment capacity of the beam specimens were also calculated in this study for comparison purposes. The test results showed that lightweight aggregate and foamed concrete significantly enhance the load carrying capacity of steel tubular sections. Furthermore, it can be concluded from this study that lightweight aggregate and foamed concretes can be used in composite construction to increase the flexural capacity of the steel tubular sections.
The ductility capacity should be estimated for inelastic analysis and design of reinforced concrete flexural members. Therefore, to estimate the ductility capacity, the model of moment-curvature relationship of reinforced concrete flexural member is assumed in this study. The curvature, rotation, and displacement(deflection) of reinforced concrete cantilever beams are analyzed and tested. The analytical results are compared with the test results. According to the analytical and test results, the assumed model of moment-curvature relationship in this study is adequate in flexural analysis of reinforced concrete members because the analytical results are well agreed with the test results, and it is resonable to express the ductility capacity in the rotation or displacement ductility, Because the curvature ductility is the limited index in a certain section. It is investigated that the ductility capacity is proportional to lateral reinforcement and compression reinforcement and inversely proportional to tension reinforcement.
In order to evaluate the effect of hybrid fibers on the flexural performance of tunnel segment at room temperature, twelve reinforced self-consolidating concrete (SCC) symmetric inclination beams containing steel fiber, macro polypropylene fiber, micro polypropylene fiber, and their hybridizations were studied under combined loading of flexure and axial compression. The results indicate that the addition of mono steel fiber and hybrid fibers can enhance the ultimate bearing capacity and cracking behavior of tested beams. These improvements can be further enhanced along with increasing the content of steel fiber and macro PP fiber, but reduced with the increase of the reinforcement ratio of beams. The hybrid effect of steel fiber and macro PP fiber was the most obvious. However, the addition of micro PP fibers led to a degradation to the flexural performance of reinforced beams at room temperature. Meanwhile, the hybrid use of steel fiber and micro polypropylene fiber didn't present an obvious improvement to SCC beams. Compared to micro polypropylene fiber, the macro polypropylene fiber plays a more prominent role on affecting the structural behavior of SCC beams. A calculation method for ultimate bearing capacity of flexural SCC symmetric inclination beams at room temperature by taking appropriate effect of hybrid fibers into consideration was proposed. The prediction results using the proposed model are compared with the experimental data in this study and other literature. The results indicate that the proposed model can estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of SCC symmetric inclination beams containing hybrid fibers subjected to combined action of flexure and axial compression at room temperature.
