The rigid body properties of a structure may be estimated easily if the mass-line of the structure could be taken exactly. However, the exact mass-line cannot be obtained experimentally. In the past years, the modal analysis for which the structure is mounted on the flexible supporter is frequently used to acquire the mass-line. Unfortunately, it is difficult not only to mount the structure but also to decouple the coupled 6 dof mode. If the structure is pended by very long and flexible rope to act free, the rigid-body modes influenced by the rope will be eliminated and the improved mass-line will be obtained. In this paper, the method using the mass-line of F.R.F. for rigid body in free-condition is suggested. The robustness of the suggested method was tested and verified numerically. The experimental results also showed a good agreement with the true value.
In many machines handling lightweight and flexible media, such as automated teller machines(ATM) and printers etc., the media must transit an open space. In the paper feeding mechanism, it is important to feed the sheet without jamming under any conditions. To avoid sheet jamming, first we need to predict the behavior of the sheet exactly. The nonlinear theory of the dynamic elastica has often been used to a nonlinear dynamic deflection model. In this paper, the governing equation is derived and simulated by the finite difference method. The analysis has to include aerodynamic effect for more exact behavior analysis. For verification of the numerical simulation, the experiments were performed using high-speed camera and feeding mechanism. The experimental results show good agreement with the numerical simulations.
Recently, all-electrified houses have constructed and some tasks are being carried out to monitor energy consumption patterns. The energy monitoring includes various elements such as temperature, pressure, water flow, $CO_2$, and electricity. In this monitoring, electricity consumption is one of the essential factors because the performance and energy saving levels are described by this physical quantity. This quantity depends on materials, structure, operation of the house, which operation means consumer's life style and usage patterns of home appliances furthermore. Firstly, this paper shows a control simulation method which were developed a few years ago. And some different methods are proposed considering flexible experimental condition.
This paper describes the fabrication process of laser induced graphene (LIG) and its transfer method on to a flexible and stretchable PDMS substrate. By irradiating CO2 laser on a polyimide(PI) film surface, a localized high temperature is created, resulting in a three-dimensional porous graphene network structure with good conductivity. This LIG electrode is relatively easy to fabricate and since it is very weak the LIG electrode was transferred to a flexible PDMS substrate to increase the sturdiness as well as possible use in flexible applications. Sheet resistance, thickness, and electrochemical activity of the fabricated in-situ LIG electrodes have been examined and compared with the LIG electrodes after transferring to PDMS elastomer. The properties of the LIG electrodes were also examined depending on the $CO_2$ laser power. As the irradiated laser power increased, the LIG electrode resistance decreases and the LIG electrode thickness increased. At 4.8 W of laser power, the average sheet resistance and thickness of the fabricated LIG electrodes were approximately $31.7{\Omega}/{\Box}$ and $62.67{\mu}m$, respectively. Moreover, the electrochemical activity of the fabricated LIG electrode at 4.8 W of laser power showed a high oxidation current of $28.2{\mu}A$ after transferring to PDMS.
Over the past decade, the major efforts for lowering the cost of electronics has been devoted to increasing the packaging efficiency of the integrated circuits (ICs), which is defined by the ratio of all devices on system-level board compared to the area of the board, and to working on a larger but cheaper substrates. Especially, in flexible electronics, the latter has been the favorable way along with using novel nanomaterials that have excellent mechanical flexibility and electrical properties as active channel materials and conductive films. Here, the tool for achieving large area patterning is by printing methods. Although diverse printing methods have been investigated to produce highly-aligned structures of the nanomaterials with desired patterns, many require laborious processes that need to be further optimized for practical applications, showing a clear limit to the design of the nanomaterial patterns in a large scale assembly. Here, we demonstrate the alignment of highly ordered and dense silicon (Si) NW arrays to anisotropically etched micro-engraved structures using a simple evaporation process. During evaporation, entropic attraction combined with the internal flow of the NW solution induced the alignment of NWs at the corners of pre-defined structures. The assembly characteristics of the NWs were highly dependent on the polarity of the NW solutions. After complete evaporation, the aligned NW arrays were subsequently transferred onto a flexible substrate with 95% selectivity using a direct gravure printing technique. As proof-of-concept, flexible back-gated NW field effect transistors (FETs) were fabricated. The fabricated FETs had an effective hole mobility of 0.17 $cm2/V{\cdot}s$ and an on/off ratio of ${\sim}1.4{\times}104$. These results demonstrate that our NW gravure printing technique is a simple and effective method that can be used to fabricate high-performance flexible electronics based on inorganic materials.
The free vibration of a spinning flexible disk-spindle system supported by hydro dynamic bearings (HDB) in an HDD is analyzed by FEM. The spinning flexible disk is described using Kirchhoff plate theory and von Karman non-linear strain, and its rigid body motion is also considered. It is discretized by annular sector element. The rotating spindle which includes the clamp, hub, permanent magnet and yoke, is modeled by Timoshenko beam including the gyroscopic effect. The flexible supporting structure with a complex shape which includes stator core, housing, base plate, sleeve and thrust pad is modeled by using a 4-node tetrahedron element with rotational degrees of freedom to satisfy the geometric compatibility. The dynamic coefficients of HDB are calculated from the HDB analysis program, which solves the perturbed Reynolds equation using FEM. Introducing the virtual nodes and the rigid link constraints defined in the center of HDB, beam elements of the shaft are connected to the solid elements of the sleeve and thrust pad through the spring and damper element. The global matrix equation obtained by assembling the finite element equations of each substructure is transformed to the state-space matrix-vector equation, and the associated eigen value problem is solved by using the restarted Arnoldi iteration method. The validity of this research is verified by comparing the numerical results of the natural frequencies with the experimental ones. Also the effect of supporting structures to the natural modes of the total HDD system is rigorously analyzed.
