  • Rockey slopes adjacent to railways are disclosed from severe weathering and hazard of failure of themselves. Consequently it causes directly rockfall or landsliding on the railway. Conventional solutions-rigid system like rocksheds, shotcrete, retaining walls, etc to these causes are limited to protect train, rail, our properties and lives from the harmful attack - rockfall. debris flow and sliding. Flexible concept for solutions with passive and active type method based on Euro Code 7 capable of high energy absorption and light materials are rapidly replacing the rigid systems with natural friendly, early installation, cost and time saving and reducing danger in works all over the world.

A Study on Position control of a Flexible One-Link Robot Arm (유연한 단일축 로보트 팔의 위치제어)

  • In this paper, an output feedback is used to reduce the effect of the vibration in the control of a flexible one-link robot arm. A PD control method with a time varying gain is proposed to improve the performance of the system in tip deflection and settling time for the step reference input. By making the change of feedback gain smoothly, th input torque can be made smooth. When there is a payload with unknown mass, an interpolation method which uses the inrehgrated value of the transient response of the hub angle is proposed for the estimation of teh payload mass. This method can be used when the reference input is known and we can get highly accurate estimate for the unknown payload. It is also demonstrated that flexible one-link arm can be controlled prettry accurately by an output feedback in a noisy environment without knowing the mass of the payload.

  • An analytical procedure on the base of the substructure synthesis and assumed modes method is developed to investigate the flexibility effect of bladed disk assembly on vibrational modes of flexible rotor system. In modeling the system, Coriolis forces, gyroscopic moments, and centrifugal stiffening effects are taken into account. The coupled vibrations between the shaft and bladed disk are then extensively investigated through the numerical simulation of simplified models, with varying the shaft rotational speed and the pretwist and stagger angles of the blade. It is found that the Coriolis and inertia forces and the inertia torque, which are induced by the one nodal diameter modes of the bladed disk and vary depending upon the stagger and pretwist angles, lead to the coupled motions of the shaft and the bladed disk.

  • The objective of this paper is to present a method for designing robust positioning control systems of a flexible arm using $H_2/H_{\infty}$ and $\mu$ theory. We begin with a description of the flexible arm based on the model identification method and discuss the derivation of the model uncertainty. The validity of the obtained model is confirmed experimentally Next, a robust controller is designed based on the $H_2/H_{\infty}$ and $\mu$ theory by which we can improve robustness of the entire system. On this occasion, we also propose a general plant formation suitable to $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed design method is verified through experimentation.

  • In this paper, we developed object-oriented analysis method for electric power system. It was applied to fault diagnosis, power system stability analysis and service restoration system in emergency state. Objectoriented programming(OOP)is a more flexible method than procedural programming. We proposed flexible modeling method for power system analysis.

  • In order to resolve a deadlock problem in manufacturing systems, three main methods have been proposed-prevention, avoidance, and recovery. The prevention and avoidance methods require predicting deadlocks in advance in order to prohibit them. In contrast, the recovery method allows a system to enter a deadlock state, then resolves it usually using a common buffer. In this paper, a deadlock recovery method considering the impact of flexible job routings is proposed. This method is based on capacity-designated directed graph (CDG) model representing current requesting and occupying relations between Jobs and resources in order to detect a deadlock and then recovers it.

  • A new method of nonlinear robust controller synthesis is introduced which is an extension of linear mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control. This method guarantees robust stability fur hard nonlinearity and uncertainty of the plant. The method is applied to the control of a flexible link of robot with Coulomb friction. Simulation shows good performances with respect to the response and the robustness.

  • As high-definition television(HDTV) broadcasting were generalized, there have been many researches and developments about large storage capacity and fast data transfer rate in optical disk drives(ODD). Pickup actuators must have high flexible mode frequencies and gain margins. Flexible modes are caused by the flexibility of moving parts in the actuator and a servo bandwidth is limited by them. As a result, the system becomes unstable for high-speed operations in high density reading and recording. In this paper, we suggest improved modeling method that considers the bonding layer. And, flexible mode frequency of actuator is improved by Design of Experiment of lens holder. Magnet circuit is designed considering the relation with moving part. Through improving yoke design, the magnetic flux is changed and DC tilt is reduced. Consequently, we designed actuator which has high flexible mode frequency and gain margins.

  • We prepared flexible transparent conducting electrodes by spray coating of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) networks on PET substrate and have demonstrated their use as transparent anodes for flexible organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The flexible CNT electrode produced by spray coating method shows relatively low sheet resistance ($150{\sim}220{\Omega}/sq.$) and high transmittance of ~60% even though it was prepared at room temperature. In addition, CNT electrode/PET sample exhibits little resistance change during 2000 bending cycles, demonstrated good mechanical robustness. Using transparent CNT electrode, it is readily possible to achieve performances comparable to commercial ITO-based OLEDs. This indicates that flexible CNT electrode is alternative anode materials for conventional ITO anode in flexible OLEDs.
