With regal extension of balcony, the flexible design to remodel interior space of apartment has appeared as a new trend. But this desire of residents is allowed partially because of lack of flexible furniture design. So this study proposed to design for flexible livingroom cabinets at 30 pyong apartment according to life styles and furniture uses. To satisfy the storage and decoration of livingroom cabinets, it focuses on diverse decorative demands as well as practical functionality. And it suggests the applications of flexible factors; opening and closing, extension and reducing, assembling and dismantling, rotation and transfer according to 3 types like child-centered, hobby-centered, couple-centered family.

The purpose of this study is to suggest a new system and standards of system furniture for promoting the efficiency of a l living space in order to cope with any possible change of a resident’s lifestyle. For this purpose, the study premises that the i idea of "flexibility" can provide a solution to problems with the resident’s current living space, and furthermore, it can fulfill the r resident’ s needs of a flexible living space. T To decide the needs of the flexibility of a living space, this paper examined and analyzed sever머 studies on the necessity of t the flexibility of a living space according to changes of one's lifestyle, characteristics and problems of each type of existing f furniture, and applications of each type of system furniture and it's flexibility. The results of this study is as follows: First, a new furniture system is necessary so that a resident can adjust one’s living space. Second, a plan for flexible interior s space can meet a current resident's demand of a flexible living space, not to mention an initial resident's .. Third, a systematic plan is needed to install system furniture in a living space to cope with changes of a resident’s lifestyle.s lifestyle.

Metal furniture design in this study from the 1960s to the present period of office space by Metal furniture design Metal furniture for social factors in the development. The scope of this study, including the development of office automation in the 1960s, causing a drastic change in the world at the time of furniture developed in Germany, Italy, the United States, Japan, and examine each country's furniture and metal furniture from the 1960s to the present design trends in office organize, and research methods literature and various data classification by age and by extracting the key trends are established form. The results of this study and the design tends to obscure the distinction between two different aspects of the design appear rarely common or different forms of expression are characterized by two. This furniture range has expanded to use metal and metal to minimize the negative aspects of a conventional flexible image is designed to suit the tastes of modern design and metal furniture design, interior space, except that now it is considered that the most can be identified.

This study aimed at acknowledging characteristics of space usage and suggesting orientation of space planning and furniture designing that meet various residents' demands correlating with residential area, furniture and family members by doing fact finding of volume of the furniture in medium/small sized apartment. The contents of the study are "experience of functional remodeling," "a number of bedrooms correlating with a number of family" and "furniture arrangement of each space and characteristics of space utilization" based on forty six cases. Followings are results of the study. 1) It was acknowledged that the function of space relating to family members largely depends on furniture arrangement correlating with age of children. It is needed that flexible planning of residential area to meets growing children and various family demands. 2) Functional remodeling requires furniture rearrangement attended with the remodeling. Thus, it is required that ideas in more simple and efficient furniture designing and consideration of construction environment embracing that ideas. 3) It can be acknowledged that the most demanding matter to enjoy satisfied and comfortable life in residential area is the matter of storage area. It is also understandable that the matter can be worse by time going by and the change of living pattern. Therefore, it is required that the consideration of enough storage area compatible with its function of the room and the planning of built-in furniture for storage.

The purpose of this study is to develop living room storage furniture with multiple functions and for analyzing living room system furniture that can correspond with lifestyles in the living room. Literature survey was used by collecting data on interior design books and magazines. System furniture is very functional depending on the purpose and spaces, and can be modified effectively with the development of design based on the resident's demand. Living room furniture was mostly arranged by two types. One was lower and slimmer in order to use the space effectively, the other totally occupied one side of the living room wall. Furniture combined with multiple functions of lights and electronics can increase the satisfaction and convenience of users. And furniture maximizes storage space and is systemized so that mixture and arrangement are diversified. Flexible and active way furniture that accept various electronic fixtures and performances in the living room. Furniture forms, materials, and colors will be designed for the functions and atmosphere of living rooms. This results will contribute to develop furniture that has additional features such as lighting and electronic appliances hereafter.

This research aims to suggest the composition of multi-functional furniture for single households, responding to the changes of consumption pattern caused by the recent trends of the single-person household living in a small residential space. It is expected that a multi-functional furniture for single households in the current context should be increased the efficiency of spaces. Using a customized questionnaire, we examined the preferences of multi-functional furniture composition for single households. A questionnaire was developed by collecting images using key words related to multi-functional furniture and analyzing the final images by multi-functionality, furniture classification system and behavior. The most preferred multi-functional furniture composition are counter-tops and chest of drawers, followed by chest of drawers and beds, counter-tops and tableware, lighting and beds, closets and drawers. This research contributes significantly in that it suggests the basic data of optimized flexible multi-functional furniture design for single-person household by linking various behaviors and furniture in the house.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the preference of street furniture and to suggest street furniture design guideline in Kwang-Ju city Subjects consisted of 197 residents in Kwang-Ju city, Kyung-ki area. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. The results of descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test and ANOVA are presented. The result of this study showed that residents of Kwang-Ju city were not satisfied with street furniture, especially the wastebasket. Natural, easy and simple design for street furniture were highly appraised. And there were distinct differences in preferences of street furniture by sex and age groups. Women group wanted warmer and richer design than the other groups. Older age group wanted more curved and active design than the other groups. Considering these results, it is desirable to apply flexible and unique design according to the various characteristics of users and the region rather than to apply strict and standardized design. These results provide a practical guideline for the development of the street furniture design.

For opening and shutting function, door has some hardware such as hinges and the locks. The folding mechanism of hinges represent mobility, and the lock means stability. The opening and shutting door-the mobility-could be interpreted the movement from flat state to three-dimensional structure. The folding mechanism also would be understood variable feature to the space. This study focus on the Folding Furniture which adapted the good point of hinges to make efficient use of the space. The folding furniture presented in this study has not only artistic meaning which expand and apply structural function of hinges, but also flexible reanalysis on the environment and the space which change with social, economic and cultural trend.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the flexible system in a typological way that develops and promotes the various methods of flexible system. The main method of this study was literature review and content analysis on various flexible systems and a case study of flexible housing. The flexible system in this typological analysis was classified into two categories: 'Elements of Flexibility' and 'Variation'. The category of Flexibility Elements was categorized into 'Primary Elements'(e.g., walls, floors, and ceilings),'Secondary Elements'(e.g., doors, windows, and furniture), and 'Tertiary Elements'(e.g., lighting, hues and finishing materials). Variation Effect was classified into 'Visual Variation', 'AppBicative Variation', and 'Layout Variation'. Also, Variation could be classified into 'Finish-centered', 'Application-centered', and 'Layout-centered' The flexible system developed in this study is a basis for further concrete flexible methods.

The history repeatedly shows that designers have sought their creative inspiration from fine arts. was also influenced by contemporary art such as surrealism or installment works. This thesis aims to examine the inter-relationship between contemporary art and contemporary furniture design with examples of organic modernism and minimalism furniture design. Also, will be analyzed in light of such interdisciplinary relationship, explaining the significances of in scholastic perspective. The previous research analysis of finding out examples of how fine art and design sought mutual exchanges to develop will help to examine the significance of in the context of art history. This analysis could be used as an important academic material to understand the origin and characteristics of modern design furniture. The features of surrealism and minimalism will be discussed in light of their influences on and interactive relationship with organic modernism furniture design. This provides important basic material to further analyze . Furthermore, the artistic language and plastic features of contemporary sculptors and installment artists such as Jean Arp, Richard Serra and Anish Kapoor will be examined to show how integrated and combined main features of those artists. extracted cognitive and phenomenological aspects from Serra's works that overwhelm viewers with their massive scales. Somewhat abstract yet somewhat primitive and dynamic features of Arp's works was also referred to . are made of FRP, composed of three partitions and six stools. This work was analyzed in aspect of form, composition and function. They have organic and flexible formations with free composition availability which endow free disassemble and arrangement. Also, they have cognitive features as of small elements are freely dispersed upon spaces to bestow certain presences. Based on this, this thesis could develop scholastic researches that examine the mutual and interactive relationship between contemporary art and furniture design with much more detailed discussions and examples.
