Vibration Control of Flexible Nonlinear System using GA based Fuzzy Logic Controller

  • In the paper, Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) that determines its optimal coefficients using Genetic Algorithms is considered. It is also applied to the inverted pendulum problem known popularly as a standard plant. Flexibility of the inverted pendulum has been taken into account. In the results, Fuzzy Logic Controller under consideration successfully controls both rigid mode and flexible mode. The rule base of Fuzzy Logic Controller is automatically tuned using not only trial-error method but also Genetic Algorithms.

  • Seismic analyses of structures can`t be performed without considering the effect of soil-structure interaction and seismic responses of a structure taking into account the stiffnesses of a foundation-soil system show a significant difference from those with a rigid base. However, current seismic analyses of apartment building structures were carried out assuming a rigid base and ignoring the characteristics of a foundation and the properties of the underlying soil. In this study, seismic analyses of apartment buildings of a particular wall-slab structural type were carried out comparing seismic response spectra of a flexible base with those of a rigid base and UBC-97. Wall-slab type low-rise or mid-height apartment buildings built on the deep soil layer showed a rigid body motion with the reduced seismic responses due to the base isolation effect, indicating that it is too safe but uneconomical to utilize the design spectra of UBC-97 for the seismic analysis of a wall-slab type apartment buildings due to the too conservative design.

  • This paper presents a choosing method of turning devices for stable robotic assembly based on verification of a base assembly motion instability. In flexible assembly application, the base assembly needs to be maintained in its assembled state without being taken apart. Therefore, the instability of the base assembly motion should be considered when determining the guide line of choosing turning devices by evaluating a degree of the motion instability of the base assembly. To derive the instability, first we inference collision free assembly directions by extracting separable directions for the mating parts and calculate the separability which gives informations as to how the parts can be essily separated. Using these results, we determine the instability evaluated by summing all the modified separabilites of each component part within base assembly.

  • PURPOSES : The first generation of wide base tires introduced in the early 1980s was found to cause a significant increase in pavement damage compared to dual-tire assemblies. However, wide base tires have evolved considerably, and a new generation of wide base tire is thought to be comparable to conventional dual tires for pavement damage. A challenge associated with using wide base tires is the accurate quantification of pavement damage induced by these tires. The objective of this study was to investigate the responses of flexible pavement to continuously moving vehicular loading under various tire configurations. METHODS : The comparison of the strain/stress responses of full-depth pavement caused by conventional dual tire assembly and new generation of wide-base tires was performed. The FE model incorporates linear viscoelasticity of asphalt material and continuous moving load using implicit dynamic analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : The result demonstrates that the new wide-base tires caused slightly more fatigue damage and less primary rutting damage in HMA layer than a dual-tire assembly, but caused more secondary rutting damage in subgrade than a dual tire assembly.

A framework for an expert system for fault diagnosis in an FMS (FMS의 고장진단을 위한 전문가 시스템의 구축방안에 대한 연구)

  • The objective of this paper is to present a framework for an expert system for fault diagnosis in an FMS (Flexible Manufacturing Systyem). First, a system is analyzed structurally and functionally, giving the relationships between the system's components. These relationships, represented by strata, are are then stored in a deep knowledge base (DKB). Next, the specific knowledge, represented by echelons, about the symptoms and their probable causes for each component is stored in a shallow knowledge base (SKB) in the form of rule. When the fault diagnosis process begins, it starts to search the DKB and then the SKB, which is called hybrid reasoning in artificial intelligence.

  • It is expected that the cooperation between rule-based reasoning and case-based reasoning gives us an efficient approach for flexible reasoning. In this paper, we present an integrated model of rule-base reasoning and case-base reasoning using the MVL automata model. In addition, we introduce how to handle the uncertainty in the integrated model.

Optimum parameters and performance of tuned mass damper-inerter for base-isolated structures

  • The optimum damping and tuning frequency ratio of the tuned mass damper-inerter (TMDI) for the base-isolated structure is obtained using the numerical searching technique under stationary white-noise and filtered white-noise earthquake excitation. The minimization of the isolated structure's mean-square relative displacement and absolute acceleration, as well as the maximization of the energy dissipation index, were chosen as the criteria for optimality. Using a curve-fitting technique, explicit formulae for TMDI damping and tuning frequency for white-noise excitation are then derived. The proposed empirical expressions for TMDI parameters are found to have a negligible error, making them useful for the effective design of base-isolated structures. The effectiveness of TMDI and its optimum parameters are influenced by the soil condition and isolation frequency, according to the comparison made of the optimized parameters and response with different soil profiles. The effectiveness of an optimally designed TMDI in controlling the displacement and acceleration response of the flexible isolated structure under real and pulse-type earthquakes is also observed and found to be increased as the inertance mass ratio increases.

  • In this paper we describe Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) using Petri nets, since Petri nets provide a powerful tool for modeling dynamical behavior of discrete concurrent processes. We deal with off-Line and on-Line rule-based scheduling of FMS. The role of the rule-base is to generate appropriate priority rule for resolving conflicts, that is, for selecting one of enabled transitions to be fired in a conflict set of the Petri nets. This corresponds to select a part type to be processed in the FMS. Towards developing more Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) we propose a conceptual framework of a futuristic intelligent scheduling system.

  • A multi d.o.f robotic manipulator is considered for multi-axis vibration control of a slender structure, using the concept of the flow source based vibration control. In order not to cause the motion saturation of the manipulator system, a hybrid dynamics associated with the flexible and desired manipulator error dynamics is also modeled as the control object. It is numerically shown that the flexible vibrations and the base motions of a test structure can be effectively controlled with the proposed hybrid dynamics.

  • This paper describes the design process and the experimental results of a fuzzy logic controller to control the tip position of a fixible-link manipulator, directly driven by a AC motor, with a large payload. The joint angle fuzzy logic controller is designed without a costly nonlinear system analysis of the flexible manipulator and the AC motor drive system. The state variables for the fuzzy logic controller are joint angle, joint velocity, link deflection, and link deflection velocity. The simulation and experimental results show that the joint position control is not satisfactory when the controller is designed under the assumption of no link flexibility and that stable joint position control and link vibration suppression can be cahieved with the fuzzy logic controller suggested in this paper.
