  • When examing patients with DRs it is necessary to remove bad pixels and lines and to correct non-uniform offsets and x-ray field. For non-uniformity correction a flat field x-ray image is needed, and to obtain it the center of detector is usually aligned with the focal spot of the x-ray tube, which is conserved when examing patients to preserve the flat field. In some of radiographic techniques, however, it is necessary to move the x-ray tube off the center position of detector or tilt the detector. We investigated the effect of detector tilting on the non-uniformity correction, and propose a method to reduce the effect using a new algorithm. The flat field of X-ray in the DR detector could be guaranteed with this result.

  • The rapid development in digital acquisition technology in radiography has not been accompanied by information regarding optimum radiolographic technique for use with an amorphus silicon flat panel detector. The purpose of our study was to compared imaging characteristics and image quality of an amorphus silicon flat panel detectors for digital chest radiography. All examinations were performed by using an amorphus silicon flat panel detector. Chest radiographs of an chest phantom were obtained with peak kilovoltage values of 60$\sim$150 kVp. Published data ell the effect of x-ray beam energy on imaging characteristics and image qualify when using an amorphus silicon flat panel detector. It is important that radiographers are aware of optimum kVp selection for an amorphus silicon flat panel detector system, particularly for the commonly performed chest examination.

  • Slim CRT의 등장은 CRT 산업에 다시 한번 생기를 불어 넣어주는 기회가 되었다. TV용 Slim CPT(Color Picture Tube)의 성공과 함께 모니터용 CDT(Color Display Tube)의 Slim 성공은 한층 더 치열한 디스플레이 산업을 예고하고 있다.

  • Experiments with premixed flames in a tube have been conducted to investigate the transition phenomenon from a laminar flat flame to turbulent motions. To induce this phenomenon, a flat flame is formed in a tube. Then, the local velocity at the center of the flat flame surface is increased using $CO_2$ laser irradiation. The deformed flame front propagates with an increase in the total flame surface and oscillating instability. Eventually, the flame front accelerates explosively, and it shows turbulent flame motions with a strong noise. The dynamic behaviors of the flame front prior to the turbulent motions are analyzed in this study to elucidate this process. The physical model of the process is presented according to observations.

  • The performance of flat-tube radiators with louvered fins was numerically investigated for different tube insertion lengths. The results of numerical analysis using CFX-11 were compared with experimental results. In this study, three types of flat-tube radiators with louvered fins were considered. An experiment was conducted to validate the numerical results. Flow rate ratio (FR) and Stotal were introduced to understand the uniformity of flow distribution easily. The results of numerical analysis revealed that the heat transfer rate and pressure drop increased as the mass flow rate increased. Further, the results showed that the heat transfer rate of sample 3 with h/D = 0.5 was higher than that of the other samples. The pressure drop increased as the insertion length toward the header part increased, and the pressure drop in the case of sample 3 appeared to be the highest. The factor Stotal showed that the uniformity of the flow distribution in the case of sample 1 with h/D = 0 was higher than that in the case of the other samples.

  • The structural integrity of tube bundles represents a major concern when dealing with high risk industries, such as nuclear steam generators, where the rupture of a tube or tubes will lead to the undesired mixing of the primary and secondary fluids. Flow-induced vibration is one of the major concerns that could compromise the structural integrity. The vibration is caused by fluid flow excitation. While there are several excitation mechanisms that could contribute to these vibrations, fluidelastic instability is generally regarded as the most severe. When this mechanism prevails, it could cause serious damage to tube arrays in a very short period of time. The tubes are therefore stiffened by means of supports to avoid these vibrations. To accommodate the thermal expansion of the tube, as well as to facilitate the installation of these tube bundles, clearances are allowed between the tubes and their supports. Progressive tube wear and chemical cleaning gradually increases the clearances between the tubes and their supports, which can lead to more frequent and severe tube/support impact and rubbing. These increased impacts can lead to tube damage due to fatigue and/or wear at the support locations. This paper presents simulations of a loosely supported multi-span U-bend tube subjected to turbulence and fluidelastic instability forces. The mathematical model for the loosely-supported tubes and the fluidelastic instability model is presented. The model is then utilized to simulate the nonlinear response of a U-bend tube with flat bar supports subjected to cross-flow. The effect of the support clearance as well as the support offset are investigated. Special attention is given to the tube/support interaction parameters that affect wear, such as impact and normal work rate.

  • The CRT(Cathode-ray Tube) of salvage is a process of separating the panel and funnel to recycle a cathode-ray tube. In this paper, the thermal properties of glass for CRT were studied to improve its recycling ratio. In the salvage process, several patterns of breakage, as called 'comer pull', were easily generated on the sealing surface of panel or funnel glass due to the residual tensile stress, which had correlations with some parameters of the manufacturing process of CRT and the initial material properties of glass. Finite element analyses and experimental approaches on the flit sealing process were carried out to obtain the major characteristic of glass related to the residual stress. From this study, it was identified that the thermal expansion coefficient of glass had much influence on the residual stress of panel glass after frit sealing process. Therefore, the optimal conditions of thermal properties for CRT glass were proposed to achieve an effective salvage process. By using these optimal conditions, the size of comer pull on the panel and funnel glass was reduced to 10% level compared with the original size, and the recycling ratio of CRT was increased in the salvage process.

  • Flow condensation heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of R22 and R134a were measured on horizontal aluminum multi-channel tube. The experimental apparatus was composed of three main parts ; a refrigerant loop, a water loop and a water-ethylene glycol loop. The test section in the refrigerant loop was made of aluminum multi-channel tube of 1.4 mm hydraulic diameter and 0.53 m length. The refrigerant was cooled by passing cold water through an annulus surrounding the test section. The data scan vapor qualities $(0.1{\sim}0.9)$, mass flux ($200{\sim}400$ $kg/m^{2}s$) and heat flux ($7.3{\sim}7.7$ $kW/m^{2}$) at $40{\times}0.2^{\circ}C$ saturation temperature in small hydraulic diameter tube. It was found that some well-known previous correlations were not suitable for multichannel tube. So, It must develop new correlations for multi-channel tubes.

  • The objective of this study is to provide numerical and experimental data that can be used to investigate the performance characteristics of a flat plate fin-tube evaporator in household and commercial refrigerators under frosting conditions. Computer simulations with variations of operating conditions such as air inlet temperature, relative humidity, and geometries were performed to find out optimal design parameters of a fin-tube evaporator for household and commercial refrigerators. The tube-by-tube method was used in the simulation and the frost growth model was considered under frosting conditions. The developed analytical model predicted the decreasing rates of heat transfer capacity and air flow rate ratio within ${\pm}$10% compared to the experimental results for a refrigerator under real operating conditions. As a result, the frost thickness at $3^{\circ}C$ & 80% is increased 40% than that of $-3^{\circ}C$ & 80%, and the frost thickness at $3^{\circ}C$ & 90% is increased 30% than that of $3^{\circ}C$ & 60%. Accordingly, the operating time of the evaporator in the refrigerator was reduced with the increase of the decreasing rate of air flow rate ratio at each condition.
