  • In EMAT field, spiral RF coils are much more widely used when compared with solenoid coils. In the field of the magnetostrictive strip transducers for long range ultrasonic testing of cylindrical structures, however, solenoid coils has been used. This seems to be attributed to the difficulty in fabricating low frequency (i.e., large size) spiral coils. In this paper, we describe a method for fabricating spiral coil magnetostrictive strip guided wave transducers from FFC (flexible flat cable). It is demonstrated through a comparison experiment that the spiral coil transducer has much superior performance (sensitivity, SNR, and guided wave direction control capability) than the previous transducer with solenoid coils.

  • This paper proposes a single-input multiple-output (SIMO) self-resonant wireless power transmission system for transmitting power to multiple receivers and the characteristics are simulated and measured. A 600 mm diameter transmission single loop, a 600 mm diameter helical transmission resonant coil, an external diameter 900 mm planar spiral reception resonant coil, and an $80{\times}60mm^2$ flat plate square coil as a receiver are used to form a wireless power transmission system 600 mm away with the table structure. For optimal characteristics, the wireless power transmission coils are designed by EM simulation and equivalent circuit analysis, and the characteristics are simulated and measured. The variation of the efficiency with distance from the center of the spiral resonant coil is analyzed and the measured efficiency is 57% for one receiver and for the two receivers, the efficiency is 37% for each receiver.

  • This paper presents the novel fabrication of an electromagnetic micro actuator with a corrugated diaphragm and a flat one. The actuator consists of a Parylene diaphragm with a spiral copper coil and a permanent magnet. The cower coil is fabricated by electroplating and patterning. As the further works, the frequency response of the actuator are obtained by using a laser vibrometer and the static deflection of the actuator diaphragm are measure by using laser displacement meter. The corrugated diaphragm is expected to be better than the flat one with respect to the actuator performance.

  • In this study, we analyze the structure of the transceiver coil in the inductive power transfer (IPT) system. In the IPT system, the transceiver coil design needs to have the highest magnetic coupling possible because of the relatively low magnetic coupling due to the large gap of distance without the core. The transmitting coil may be formed as a multi-layer type according to the distance between the transmitting and receiving coils if the receiving coil is configured as a multi-layer type on the inner structure of the receiving apparatus, thereby improving the magnetic coupling and system efficiency. We compare and analyze the coil magnetic coupling, and system efficiency according to the layer structure of the transmitting and receiving coils and verify the analysis by JMAG simulation. Experimental results show that the layer structure of the transceiver should be considered according to the inner space of the receiving device and the spacing distance.

  • The 3D printing of electronics has been a major application topics in additive manufacturing technology for a decade. In this paper, wireless power transfer (WPT) technology for 3D electronics is studied to supply electric power to its inner circuit. The principle of WPT is that electric power is induced at the recipient antenna coil under an alternating magnetic field. Importantly, the efficiency of WPT does rely on the design of the antenna coil shape. In 3D printed electronics, a flat antenna that can be placed on the printed plane within a layer of a 3D printed part is used, but provided a different antenna response compared to that of a conventional PCB antenna for NFC. This paper investigates the WPT response characteristics of a WPT antenna for 3D printed electronics associated with changes in its design elements. The effects of changing the antenna curvature and the gap between the wires were analyzed through experimental tests.

  • Reduction of AC losses is very important for realizing HTS cable and it had been reported that the same layer current controlled by twisting pitch and direction could reduce the AC losses effectively. During the long-term development of HTS cables, the superconductor AC losses will need to be reduced to a level determined by the economics of each installation and the efficiency of the refrigeration. Theoretical models have been developed to predict the magnitude of the losses in cables composed of several layers of flat HTS tapes. This paper is manufactured mini-model HTS cable and voltage signal line to spiral shape. Mini-model HTS cable is composed of 13 HTS tape. We measured to critical current and AC loss and compared used lock-in-amp to cancel coil. This data is useful to HTS cable of DAPAS program.
