An acoustic finite element model of a bridge is developed to evaluate the noise generated by the traffic-induced vibration of the bridge. The dynamic response of a multi-girder bridge, modeled by a 3-dimensional frame element model, is analyzed with a 3-axle(8DOF) truck model and a 5-axle(l3DOF) semi-trailer. The flat plate element is used to analyze the acoustic pressure due to the fluid-structure interactions between the vibrating surface and contiguous acoustic fluid medium. The radiation fields of noise with a specified distribution of vibrating velocity and pressure on the structural surface are also computed using the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral. In an attempt to illustrate the influence of the structural vibration noise of a bridge to total noise level around the bridge, the random function is used to generate the vehicle noise source including the engine noise and the rolling noise interacting between the road and tire. Among the diverse parameters affecting the dynamic response of bridge, the vehicle velocity, the vehicle weight, the spatial distribution of the road surface roughness, the stiffness degradation of the bridge and the variation of the air temperature changing the air density are found to be the main factors that increase the level of vibration noise. Consequently, The amplification rate of noise increases with the traveling speed and the vehicle weight.

To have high flatness quality of hot rolled strip in the hot strip finishing mill train, a new inter-stand tension profile measuring device of segmented looper roll type(coined as Flatness Sensing Inter-stand Looper, FlatSIL) and a new flatness control system have been developed in this study. The device measures the strip tension profile across the strip width and informs the strip wave pattern to new flatness control system where work roll bending mode to relieve the strip wave is determined. The existing automatic shape control system which uses laser type shape-meter installed at the outlet of the last finishing mill stand strip tension between down coiler and last finishig mill since the latent wave concealed by the strip tension between down coiler and last finishing mill stand cannot be measured by the laser distance-meter. Thus the existing shape control system is not able to control the flatness through the full strip length. The new flatness control system, however, works for full strip length during strip rolling as far as the tension profile measuring device and work roll bender are on. With the new flatness control system, work roll bender is automatically controller to minimize the latent wave of the running strip and the flatness quality as well as strip travelling stability has been noticeably improved from strip head through body to tail.
Die-less forming is a cold forming process which is to bend thick flat plates into compound curved plates using two asymmetric rollers. This forming method has several advantages compared with line heating which is widely used to fabricate compound curved pieces in shipyards. The die-less forming, however, has scarcely been studied. Even the deformation mechanism in this forming process has not been understood clearly. So, in this paper, the deformation characteristics of die-less forming is investigated analytically and numerically. for the analytic investigation, slab method based on equilibrium equation is applied. And the mechanism of curvature generation is derived for the asymmetry in roller applied. And three dimensional numerical analyses are performed with realistic modeling of interactions between the rollers and work-piece using finite element program, ABAQUS. It is shown that curvature generation is mainly due to the difference of normal positive strain distribution between the top and bottom surface of the work-piece. And a convex-type curved plate is formed if the center region of the work-piece is rolled with asymmetric rollers of which the lower is larger than the upper in diameter.

This paper presents how to approximate an optimal shape of roll bending process in the fabrication of a curved shell plate. The roll bending process usually makes the cylindrical or conic shape from an initial flat plate. It means that the final shape is developable or its surface representation has zero Gaussian curvature. The fabrication shape is important in order to find process parameters of roil bending. An optimal concept is used to determine the developable fabrication shape which is in the closest proximity to the design surface or the given shell plate and is subject to developability. The results and the efficiency of this algorithm are evaluated by applying to some shell plates. Furthermore, the fabrication shape will be fundamental information for other process parameters of roll bending such as the vertical displacement of the center roller and the rolling directions.

This paper reports on the experimental investigations on the failure modes of ring-stiffened cylinder models subjected to external hydrostatic pressure. Nine models were welded from general structural steel. The shells were initially formed by cold-rolling, and flat-bar ring frames were welded to the shell. The hydrostatic pressure tests were conducted by using water as the medium in pressure chambers. The details of the preparation and main test were briefly explained. The investigation identified the consequence of the structural failure modes, including: shell yielding, local shell buckling between ring stiffeners, overall buckling of the shell together with the stiffeners, and interactive buckling mode combining local and overall buckling. In addition, the ultimate strengths were predicted by using existing design codes. Non-linear numerical computations were also conducted by employing the actual imperfection coordinates. Finally, accuracy and reliability of the predictions of design formulae and numerical were substantiated with the test results.
Studying the long-range ordering of nanopores on the anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes under a hard anodization (HA) approach is crucial in producing well-aligned nanopores on the AAO membranes. Electro-polishing in a mixture of ethanol and perchloric acid for 5 min removed marks formed by rolling and produced flat surfaces on aluminum substrates. The AAO was formed by the first HA process, providing seeds for the subsequent production of uniform AAO nanopores. The second HA process carried out on the seeds produced well-aligned, uniform AAO nanopores. The AAO nanopores, varying in size and shape, were observed with voltages applied for HA. This study provides a route for controlling the size and shape of AAO nanopores by changing the applied voltages.
In this study, a motion planning method based on the integer representation of contact status between wheels and the ground is proposed for planning swing motion of a 6×6 wheel-legged robot to cross large obstacles and gaps. Wheel-legged robots can drive on a flat road by wheels and overcome large obstacles by legs. Autonomously crossing large obstacles requires the robot to perform complex motion planning of multi-contacts and wheel-rolling at the same time. The lift-off and touch-down status of wheels and the trajectories of legs should be carefully planned to avoid collision between the robot body and the obstacle. To address this issue, we propose a planning method for swing motion of robot legs. It combines an integer representation of discrete contact status and a trajectory optimization based on the direct collocation method, which results in a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. The planned motion is used to control the joint angles of the articulated legs. The proposed method is verified by the MuJoCo simulation and shows that over 95% and 83% success rate when the height of vertical obstacles and the length of gaps are equal to or less than 1.68 times of the wheel radius and 1.44 times of the wheel diameter, respectively.

Work rolls used in cold rolling mills must have outstanding wear resistance and very little plastic defor- mation. Thus, these rolls require a higher surface hardness and harding to a greater depth. To meet these requirements, the rolls, in general, have basic chemical composition of 0.7 to 1.0% carbon and 1.0 to 5.0% Cr(chromium), plus a small amounts of special elements, and are subjected to intensive water quenching and tempering at low temperature to provide a surface hardness of over 90 shore. This test results are as follows. Deflection and fracture load of 5% Cr material are than those of 3% Cr material and show flat curve from surface to subsurface. It will be clear that 5% Cr work roll has a superior resisti- bility against wear and abrasion comparing with 3% Cr work roll. The improvement of wear and abrasion in 5% Cr work roll will be achieved by the large amount of wpheroidal carbide. In grindability and polish, 5% Cr work roll will be a little inferior comparing with 3% Cr work roll.
To investigate the actual distribution condition and clothing construction factors of the working clothes supplied to the Changwon national industrial complex, 5 major companies in machinery, automotive, industrial engineering, shipbuilding and rolling stock in the industrial complex located in Gyeongsangnam-Do were selected. The questionnaire designed for the research consisted of working clothes distribution policies in manufacturing industry and the actual conditions of the design facts, repair and maintenance of the working clothes, etc. The analysis of the clothing construction factors of the working clothes provided by 5 respondent companies were conducted in parallel. The results derived from the study were as follows: The basic types of working clothes were the blouson jacket and straight pants; safety equipments for manufacture were safety helmets, gloves, snickers, goggles, masks, ear caps, wristlets, leggings, apron, etc. The size-charts adopted by the participant companies were the small-medium-large and cm/inch measurement size systems. To solve wearer's dissatisfaction with the garment fit, certain clothing construction factors were used, e.g. strap bands and the elastic band on a waist band. The types of fabrics used for the working clothes were mainly polyester/cotton and polyester/rayon blended ones. Moreover, to provide with more air permeability to wearers, the warp knit material was used to construct the lining and the armpit or back bodice slits. Lock, two-thread chain, safety, overedge stitches were applied with flat, lap felled, French, superimposed, lapped, bound and edge finishing seams to construct the working clothes selected.

Flexible display interface is capable of creating new user behaviors based on its characteristics of outstanding surface representation and display transformations such as bending, rolling, and folding. Thus, it is being discussed that the newly emerging flexible display interface can offer a different user experience that the previous flat display couldn't. However, as it is hard to find studies that identify the general attributes of user experience in the area of flexible display research, this study was intended to identify and label experience that users expect in a flexible display interface. For this purpose, this study first investigated literature reviews about user experience in previous digital media interface and flexible display interface and conducted interview research in order to reflect the users' perception, collecting 52 items that represent user experience. In addition, these items were used as measurements to deduct different types of user experience, and 308 interviewees participated in the interview research process. As a result, 10 types of user experience were developed from the results of the survey: functionality, understandability, pleasure, convenience, familiarity, stimulation, adaptability, collectivity, reality, and aesthetic.
