The rolling of flat slabs or sheet metal is probably the most advanced technique of metalworking technology. In spite of this very intensive activity, the problem if edge cracking has not been resolved. Although edge cracking is a major industrial problem, relatively little well-documented experimental work has been published on subject. Despite the paucity of exact experiments, it is reasonably certain from published data that three causes contribute to its occurrence; (1) limited ductility of the rolled material (2) uneven deformation at the edges and (3) variations in stresses along the width of the rolled material, particular near the edge. The present study was carried out to show the generation of edge cracking using ductile fracture criteria and FE-simulation. The validity of simulated results was verified by rolling experiments of steel strip.

Excessive wavy surfaces formed by a cold or hot-rolling process in a thin plate degrade the value of the plate significantly, which is called flatness problem in the industry. It is a result of post-buckling due to the residual stress caused by the rolling process. A unique difficulty of the problem as a buckling problem is that the buckling length is not given but has to be found. a new approach is developed to solve the flatness problem by extending a classic post-buckling analysis method based on the energy principle. The approach determines the buckling length and amplitude. The new solution approach can be used to determine the condition for the maximum rolling production that does not cause the flatness problem.
The hole expansion tests using conical punch, flat punch or hemispherical punch are widely used for stretch flangeability verification of HSS. In this study, we investigate the strain distribution on the shear edges of the hole expansion test using grid marking and a projector. A small crack at the edge is distributed, resulting in a large gap between the HER and the crack strain. The strain distribution at the edges is irregular due to anisotropy of sheet metal. While an edge perpendicular to the rolling direction indicate a lower strain level compared to an edge parallel to the rolling direction, edge cracks occur at the edge perpendicular to the rolling direction. To predict the manifestation of edge cracks in FE analysis, the result of the hole expansion test with a crack strain measurement may well be a better tool than FLD. In this case, the level of strain and the direction of the edge relative to the rolling direction should be well considered.

The investigation deals with the process design in cold rolling mill of electric plant. In this study, multiple objective optimization is conducted by a genetic algorithm, where the fitness values are evaluated on the basis of one - dimensional model of flat rolling. The approach is applied to the determination of the process conditions which are optimal with regard to minimization of roll power and maximization of productivity.
The tribological properties of eight different liquid crystals were investigated in a concentrated point contact device and a ball-on-flat contact. For comparison, the same tests were also performed with commercial greases and the corresponding base oils. Under the fully flooded conditions studied, liquid crystals in a concentrated point contact showed lower friction than commercial greases and greater film thickness dependence on rolling speed than grease base oils or greases. Test results also showed that the film thickness and friction were little influenced by the composition of the examined liquid crystals.

Leaves are an important organism for photosynthesis and transpiration. The shape of leaf is crucial factor affecting plant architecture. V-shape leaf rolling is enhancing canopy photosynthesis by increasing the CO2 penetration and the light capture by reducing the shadow between the leaves. Therefore, moderate leaf rolling is thought to more high grain yield per area than flat leaf. We investigated 278 KRICE_CORE accession's Adaxial Leaf Rolling Index (LRI) in first heading using the following equation. For each accession, genomic DNA was used for sequencing. We sequenced the genomics with ~8 X coverage to detect SNPS. Raw reads were aligned against the rice reference (IRGSP 1.0) for SNP identification and genotype calling. To generate genotype data for GWAS, SNPs were filtered with minor allele frequency 0.05. Finally, 841,134 high-quality SNPs were used for our GWAS. The significant threshold was -log10(P)>7.23. From the results, 2 significance SNP were detected. Considering the LD block of 250kbp, 60 candidate gene were selected including Hypothetical gene and Conserved gene. In this poster, we analyzed candidate gene affecting adaxial Leaf Rolling through single-trait GWAS.

When an almost flat surface under test is measured by an interferometer, the measurement result is largely influenced by systematic errors that include geometrical errors of a reference flat surface. To determine the systematic errors of the interferometer by the conventional method that is called the three flat method, we must take the reference flat surface out from the interferometer and measure it. Because of difficulties to set the reference flat surface to the interferometer exactly and quickly, this method is not practical. On the other hand, the method that measures a surface under test with some shifts in the direction being perpendicular to the optical axis of the interferometer is studied. However, the parasitic pitching, rolling and up-down movement caused by the above shifts brings serious error to the measurement result, and the algorithm by which the influences can be eliminated is not still established. In this paper, we propose the self-calibration algorithm for determining the systematic errors that include geometrical errors of a reference flat surface by several rotation shifts and a linear shift of general surface under test, and verify by a numerical experiment that this algorithm is useful for determining the systematic errors.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of shoes with curved out-sole on the pressure, reaction force(sum of pressure) on foot and relations between the rolling speeds and pronation of foot. The foot pressure, reaction force and pressure center on the foot surface of shoe were measured with NOVEL padar system, and 3 type shoes were used to compare the position and speed of pressure center and the foot reaction force, which were s(target) shoe with soft cushions in middle part of out-sole and curved out-sole, m shoes with two type- soft, hard, hardness out-sole and curved out-sole and n shoes with flat out-sole. The subjects were 13 female university students, had weared the 3 type shoes for 6 weeks on two-weeks shifts for adaptation before experiment and put on 3-type shoes repeatedly and randomly and walked on treadmill with 3.5km/h and 80 steps/min. The data were captured with 30Hz and readjusted with 5kgf threshold reaction force. The results can be summarized as follow. 1. There were no difference in maximum reaction force on initial contact period and total foot impact, but statistical difference in maximum reaction force on takeoff period : s, m, n in ascending order. 2. There were some difference in rolling speeds for support periods. At initial contact, the rolling speed of s shoes was fastest but at periods between first and second maximum reaction force, that of m shoes fastest. 3. There was a negative relation between rolling speeds and the length of lever arm on initial reaction force related to pronation. It seems shoes with various curved shapes and hardness could make effects on the rolling features and the rolling speed also have some relationships with walking efficiency, absortion of impact and pronation.
