  • The NOx emission characteristics of jet flames fueled with It was studied. Experimental and numerical investigations were carried out for various flames with varying equivalence ratio, fuel flow rate and nozzle diameter. The Emission indices of NOx(EINOx) were measured by chemiluminescent method and calculated by simulation using detailed chemistry. The results show that the numerical results represent well the trends of EINOx experimentally observed. EINOx of H$_2$ flame steeply increase at small equivalence ratio, gently increase and steady at more than equivalence ratio is 4.0. EINOx trends of H$_2$ flame can be describe in function of residence time in the high-temperature region weighted by the maximum flame temperature.

  • The NOx emission characteristics of jet flames fueled with $H_2\;and\;CH_4$ were studied. Experimental and numerical investigations were carried out for various flames with varying equivalence ratio, fuel flow rate and nozzle diameter. The Emission indices of NOx(EINOx) were measured by chemiluminescent method and calculated by numerical model based on detailed chemistry. The results show that EINOx of $CH_4\;and\;H_2$ flames have different trends in terms of equivalence ratio and fuel flow rate but have the same trends in terms of nozzle diameter. These differences can be explained by the following Thermal and Prompt trends in both flames. Thermal EINOx is quite sensitive to the residence time in the high-temperature region weighted by the maximum flame temperature. Prompt EINOx is mainly influenced by flame surface area of each combustion conditions.

  • This paper presents an investigation on $C_2$, CH, OH radicals and NOx emissions in partially premixed flames with acoustic excitation. The radicals are visualized by the digital image technique with optical filters and ICCD camera while NOx emissions are determined by a chemiluminescent detection(NOx analyser). The measurements are made in flames with an overall equivalence ratio (${\phi}_o$) 0.5 and a center tube equivalence ratio(${\phi}_c$) varing from 1.1 to 5.0 for a constant fuel flow rate. In the case of excitation, the visual shape of the flame is changed from laminar to turbulent-like flames. Images of $C_2$, CH, and OH radicals resemble those of the flame appearances as the excitation phase is varied, and the radicals generated at the upstream are convected toward the downstream. It is inferred that the flame characteristics is affected by the flow characteristics of air-fuel mixture. In the case of acoustic excitation, OH radicals are much increased relative to unexcitation. From the radicals and flame visualization under acoustic excitation, the reduction of flame length affects the shorter residence time of center tube mixture, and significantly influences the NOx reduction.

  • This paper is suggesting about glass melting technology, using both plasma and combustion heat source. The mixed flame was formed to flow pattern of turning by plasma and combustion in melting zone. The burning time was extremely extended for vitrification of raw materials in melting zone, as a result, meting time was significantly reduced. This system was designed to smaller size than existing glass melting facilities. We had achieved to 30% energy saving, due to reduce residence time of melted materials inside furnace.

  • The NOx emission characteristics with oxygen enrichment in nonpremixed counterflow and coflow jet flame of $CH_4$ fuel have been investigated numerically. A small amount of nitrogen is included in oxygen-enriched combustion, in order to consider the inevitable $N_2$ contamination by air infiltration. The results show that the initial increase of NO with increasing oxygen enrichment is due to increasing temperature and residence time, while its subsequent decrease above 75% oxygen is due to decreasing the consumption rate of nitrogen. When oxygen addition exceeds 30%, Thermal NO gradually becomes the dominant production pathway and Prompt NO becomes negative pathway for net NO production rate. It is also seen that Thermal NO plays an important role in NO reduction when strain rate increase in oxygen-enriched combustion. Finally, the results of EINOx with oxygen enrichment in coflow jet flame show the similar profile with those of conterflow flame. It is confirmed that, with leakage of 1% nitrogen in the oxidizer stream, the corresponding EINOx is eight times of that emitted from regular $CH_4$/Air flame.

  • Nitrous oxide is a global warming substance and is known as the main cause of the destruction of the ozone layer because its global warming effect is 310 times stronger than carbon dioxide, and it takes 120 years to decompose. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the characteristics of NOx emission from N2O reduction by thermal decomposition of N2O. Bunsen premixed flames were adopted as a heat source to form a high-temperature flow field, and the experimental variables were nozzle exit velocity, co-axial velocity, and N2O dilution rate. NO production rates increased with increasing N2O dilution rates, regardless of nozzle exit velocities and co-axial flow rates. For N2O, large quantities were emitted from a stable premixed flame with suppressed combustion instability (Kelvin Helmholtz instability) because the thermal decomposition time is not sufficient with the relatively short residence time of N2O near the flame surface. Thus, to improve the reduction efficiency of N2O, it is considered effective to increase the residence time of N2O by selecting the nozzle exit velocities, where K-H instability is generated and formed a flow structure of toroidal vortex near the flame surface.

  • A Numerical Analysis of NOx production in Hydrogen-Air flame is performed using the quasi-laminar reaction modelling. As results, in low global strain rate region, $U_F/D_F\;{\leq}\;50,000$, the quasi-laminar reaction modelling reproduces the experimentally observed EINOx half power scaling that the ratio of EINOx and flame residence time, $L_f^3(D_F^2U_F)$, is proportional to the square root of global strain rate. Thus, it suggests that turbulence-chemistry interaction has a minor impact on the trend of NOx production in low global strain rate region. However, the quasi-laminar reaction modelling predicts the higher temperature and NOx than experimentally observed. This overprediction may be due to the lack of radiation and quasi-laminar reaction modelling.

  • In this study, finely divided vanadium pentoxide was prepared by carrying vapor of vanadyl trichloride into the flame of an C3H8-O2-H2 with a specially designed burner. The flame-synthesized oxide particles had a nonporous spherical shape with nearly constant diameter in the range of 200-600$\AA$. The surface area of these particles depends on the residence time and the concentration of metal chloride vapor in the burner. The experimental results showed that the growth of particles is controlled by fusion rather than collision. The crystal size of finely divided V2O5 particle was increased after calcination at temperature above 50$0^{\circ}C$.

  • Measurements of local CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$, $C_3$H$_{8}$, NOx concentrations and flame temperature are made for partially premixed flame with and without acoustic excitation. The CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$, and $C$_3$H_8$ concentrations are determined by thermal conductivity detection (Gas-chromatograph) and NOx concentrations are determined by chemiluminescent detection (NOx analyser). To measure local sample concentration, sampling probe was made by quartz with inlet diameter of 0.25mm. In the case of excitation, the visual shape of the flame is changed from laminar flame to turbulent-like flame. The flame length is also reduced, and the flame width becomes broad. In the observation of emission concentration without acoustic excitation, meanwhile, the $CO_2$ and NOx concentrations peak at flame front where the mixture meets with surrounding air, and the CO concentration is increasing at maximum position of CO2 concentration and peaks at the centerline of the burner. In the case of acoustic excitation, the $CO_2$ concentration is widely occurred at nozzle of the burner and is higher relative to unexcitation. The CO concentration is much reduced, but NOx concentration is more increasing. And flame temperature is higher relative to unexcitation. These are caused by enhancing of mixing with surrounding air due to excitation. However, in the case of acoustic excitation, the total NOx concentration is reduced because of the shortened flame length which affects residence time.e.

  • Characteristics of premixed flames in counter-flow system are numerically studied using a detailed chemical reaction mechanism including gas phase radiation. Without radiation effect accounted, low CO and high NO$_{x}$ emission indices are observed, when strain rate decreases, due to increased residence time and higher flame temperature. Higher NO$_{2}$ production has been also observed when two premixed flames are interacting or cold air stream is mixed with burned gas. The rate of NO$_{x}$ production and destruction is dependent upon the diffusional strength of H and OH radicals, the existence of NO and the concentration of HO$_{2}$. For radiating flames, the peak temperature and NO$_{x}$ production rate decreases as the strain rate decreases. At high strain rate, it is found that the effect of radiation on flame is little due to its negligible radiating volume. It is also found that NO$_{x}$ production from the interacting premixed flame is reduced due to reduced temperature resulting from radiation heat loss. It is concluded that the radiation from gas has significant effect of flame structure and on emission characteristics.ristics.
