Effect of Ethanol on the Reduction of Propionate under Anaerobic Condition (혐기성 조건에서 에탄올의 주입에 따른 프로피온산의 저감에 관한 연구)

  • A series of experiments were conducted for modeling the fate and effect of the coupled oxidation reduction reaction of ethanol and propionate recognized as important intermediates in anaerobic degradation metabolism. Anaerobic kinetics for conversion of propionate and the interaction with ethanol were investigated using the model of specific substrate priority utilization effect. Seed cultures for the experiment were obtained from an anaerobically enriched steady-state propionate master culture reactor (HPr-MCR), ethanol-propionate master culture reactor (EtPr-MCR) and glucose master culture reactor (Glu-MCR). Experiments were consisted of four phases. Phase I, II and III were conducted by fixing the propionate organic loading as 1.0 g COD/L with increasing ethanol loading of 0, 100, 200, 400 and 1,000 mg/L, to find metabolic interaction of ethanol and propionate degradation by each enriched anaerobic culture. In phase IV, different mixing ratios of Glu-MCR and HPr-MCR cultures with fixed propionate organic loading, 1.0 g COD/L, were applied to observe the propionate degradation metabolic behavior. In the results of this study, different pathways of propionate and ethanol conversion were found using a modified competitive inhibition kinetic model. Increase of $K_{s2}$ value reflected the formation of acetate followed by ethanol degradation. In addition. $K_3$ value was increased slightly as the reactions of acetate formation and degradation were occurred in acetoclastic methanogenesis.

Vegetable Oil Intake and Breast Cancer Risk: a Meta-analysis

  • Background: Total fat intake may be associated with increased risk of breast cancer, and fish oil has been suggested as a protection factor to breast cancer. But the effect of vegetable oils is inconclusive. We aimed to investigate the association with high vegetable oils consumption and breast cancer risk, and evaluated their dose-response relationship. Design: We systematically searched the MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane databases, and CNKI updated to December 2014, and identified all observational studies providing quantitative estimates between breast cancer risk and different vegetable oils consumption. Fixed or random effect models were used to estimate summary odds ratios for the highest vs. lowest intake, and dose-response relationship was assessed by restricted cubic spline model and generalized least-squares trend (GLST) model. Results: Five prospective cohort studies and 11 retrospective case-control studies, involving 11,161 breast cancer events from more than 150,000 females, met the inclusion criteria. Compared with the lowest vegetable oils consumption, higher intake didn't increased the risk of breast cancer with pooled OR of 0.88 (95% CIs:0.77-1.01), and the result from dose-response analyses didn't show a significant positive or negative trend on the breast cancer risk for each 10g vegetable oil/day increment (OR=0.98, 95% CIs: 0.95-1.01). In the subgroup analyses, the oils might impact on females with different strata of BMI. Higher olive oil intake showed a protective effect against breast cancer with OR of 0.74 (95% CIs: 0.60-0.92), which was not significant among the three cohort studies. Conclusions: This meta-analyses suggested that higher intake of vegetable oils is not associated with the higher risk of breast cancer. Olive oil might be a protective factor for the cancer occurrence among case-control studies and from the whole. Recall bias and imbalance in study location and vegetable oils subtypes shouldn't be ignored. More prospective cohort studies are required to confirm the interaction of the impact of vegetable oils on different population and various cancer characteristic, and further investigate the relationship between different subtype oils and breast cancer.

산업안전관리자의 안전의식 연구

  • 우리 나라는 한해에 안전사고로 인해 12만 .+-. 2만명정도의 재해자를 발생시키고 있으며, 재해의 천국이라는 오명까지 얻게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 우리나라의 산업안전관리자의 안전의식을 분석함으로써 재해발생의 감소에 일조를 하고자 함을 본 연구의 목적으로 한다. 연구기간은 1997년 3월에서 8월까지며, 총 200여명의 강원지역의 산업안전관리자들을 대상 으로 설문조사하여, 그중 불성실하게 답한 것을 제외한 183명의 관리자들의 응답결과를 토 대로 통계분석을 실시하였다. 연구내용은 안전의식에 대한 설문조사를 통하여 그들의 근무 조건과 안전에 대한 지식정도, 현 직장에의 만족과 불만족요인과 자주 쓰는 재해통해방법들을 조사하여 우리나라의 안전관리자들의 현 상황을 유추해 보고자 시도하였다. 분석결과 183명 중 여성은 불과 3명뿐이며, 83%가 기혼이며, 대졸은 전체의 25.1%이며, 59.6%가 고졸이며 , 전문대졸은 15.2%나 되었다. 전담 안전관리자는 전체의 8%에 불과했으며, 대부분 겸임을 하고 있었다. 놀라운 것은 안전관리자들의 92.6%가 안전관리자격증이 없었으며, 2급이 4.7% 에 불과했다. 과거에 부상을 당한 경험이 있는 안전관리자는 전체의 26.3%에 달해 회사가 부상을 당한 근로자를 안전부서로 발령한다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 다친 원인의 50%가 시설물 결함으로 나타나 작업환경개선이 시급함을 알 수가 있었다. 우리나라도 선진국과 같은 교욱담당의 NIOSH와 제재담당의 OSHA와 같은 기관의 설립이 보다 효율적이고 근본적인 안전 관리의 문제해결책이라고 사료된다. 열악한 중소기업에 나라에서 안전교육을 담당해 주는 대신 기업은 근로자들에게 보다 안전한 환경을 제공해야 된다는 것이 이러한 기관설립의 목적이라고 하겠다. 더 나아가 이를 총괄하는 안전관리청의 신설이 보다 근본적인 문제해결을 제공해 줄 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.의 결과는 자전거 에르고노미터의 결과가 트레드밀의 결과에 87.60%정도 나타났다.음을 관찰하였다. 특히 vitamin C와 E의 병용투여는 상승적으로 적용하여 간세포손상을 더욱 억제시킴을 알 수 있었다.mance and on TFP(Total Factor Productivity) growth which is a pure measure of firm performance. 가사활동에 따른 피로도 감소를 위한 입좌식 부엌가구의 개발에 관한 연구

  • 본 연구는 주부들의 주활동공간인 부엌가구와 공간의 설계에 있어사용하기 편리하며 가사활동에 따 른 피로를 경감시키고 요통과 같은 주부직업병을 예방할 수 있는 부엌가구와 공간의 개발에 그 목적을 두었다. 연구는 먼저 수도권의 32평형 규모의 아파트150가구를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 만 24시간동안의 실제 가사활동을 Video로 촬영하여 동작분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 주부들은 수납의 용 이성과 공간의 크기, 작업대의 높이 등을 가장 많은 개선사항으로 지적하였으며, 절반이상의 주부들이 앉은 자세에서 작업이 이루어졌으면 좋겠다고 응답하였다. 또한 동작분석 결과 작업의 70%이상이 개수 대를 중심으로 조리대와 가열대 주변의 한정된 공간에서정적으로 선 자세에서이루어지는 것으로 파악 되었다. 이러한 선 자세에서의 작업에 따른 피로도를 감소시키기 위하여 입좌식 의자를 도입하였으며, 개수대를 씽크대의 'ㄱ'자 코너에 위치하여 주방활동시의 이동거리를 단축하고자 하였다. 피로도의 경감 을 측정하기 위하여 입좌식 의자를 도입한 개선된 씽크대와 기존의 입식씽크대에서 가사활동시 요구되는 주부들의 에너지 대사량을 비교하기 위하여 심장박동수와 산소호흡량을 측정하였다. 실험결과에 따르면 주방에 입좌식의자를 도입한 경우가 가사활동에 요구되는 에너지 소모량이 심장박동수와 산소호흡량의 기준에서 각각 평균적으로 30%와 57.5% 이상이 감소하는 것으로 파악되어 이러한 부엌가구의 도입으로 주부들의 가사활동에따른 피로도가 절반 가까이 감소될 수 있음을 니타내었다. 또한 부엌가구의 재배치 에따른 가사활동시 이동거리가 평균적으로5.5%이상이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 주방설 계에 적용할 경우 가사활동의 효율성과 편리성이 향샹됨은 물론 가사활동에따른 피로도를 경감 시키고 요통 등의 주부직업병을 예방할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.1일 1회씩 4회 투여한 군에서도 암수에 상관없이 전 농도 군에서 염색체이상을 나타내지 않아 유전독성을 나타내지 않음을 관찰하였다. 특히 vitamin C와 E의 병용투여는 상승적으로 적용하여 간세포손상을 더욱 억제시킴을 알 수 있었다.mance and on TFP(Total Factor Productivity) growth which is a pure measure of firm performance.   • Generally, the effect of the cement deep mixing method on the improvement of clay ground is far greater than the effect of physical improvement. Although it leads to great improvement strength in the initial stage, there are not many constructional precedents in Korea and it is hard to manage quality according to the cement-clay mixing method. In order to figure out the strength characteristics according to the mixing ratio of cement, sand, and clay and the improvement characteristics of weak ground according to the forms of the specimens to be improved, marine clay was used in this study to conduct the uniaxial compression test and soil bin model test. The test piece specimens for the uniaxial compression test were mixed with sand in a fixed ratio with the criterion of the water cement ratio. The cement was mixed with clay in the ratios of 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% to the clay weight. The moisture content of the soil ground was made in the ratios of 40%, 60%, and 80%. The test piece specimens went through curing by moistening for 7, 14, and 28 days and underwent the uniaxial compression test according to the curing period. For the bearing test, the soil bin models were made and the ground improved in the Mat type was formed. After that, the bearing strength was compared in this study according to the improvement ratio and analyzed the intervening effect between the walls of the improved specimens.

  • ODA (Official Development Assistance) aims for practicing international humanitarianism in developing countries. However, ODA donors also seek to find convincing evidence meeting the national economic & political interests in the international community. In this regards, precise & unbiased estimation of the policy effects of ODA aid on the donors' exports to the recipient countries has recently become one of the primary concerns of the ODA donors, especially developing countries including Korea of which economy structure heavily relies on exports for economic growth. Based on the basic gravity model, this study empirically analyzes the effects of technical cooperation ODA delivering skills, knowledge and technical know-how on Korea's exports to the ODA recipient countries using 10-year panel data from 2007 to 2016. Specifically, by incorporating major variables affecting trade such as GDP, distance, FDI etc, the effect of technical cooperation ODA on Korea's exports to the ODA recipient countries is estimated with various kinds of panel models. As a result, technical cooperation ODA has a statistically significant impact on Korea's exports to ODA recipient countries, especially in the exports of intermediate goods. And the detail process of this black-boxed mechanism is scrutinized through case studies on Uzbekistan, The Philippines, and Morocco.

  • This study aims to analyze the effect of the level of accounts receivable on firm profitability. It is possible to find the optimal level of accounts receivable that maximizes profitability. In this study, 6,632 samples were selected from manufacturing companies listed on the Korean Stock Exchange from 2001 to 2018. We used the fixed effect panel model to analyze the model equation. There is a positive (+) relationship between the profitability of a company, the Return on Assets (ROA), and accounts receivable (AR). Also, this relationship has a nonlinear relationship or a reverse-U shape. There is an optimal level of accounts receivables, which results in profitability increase up to a certain extent, but subsequently, profitability decreases when accounts receivables exceed this level. In the case of monopoly companies with a higher-than-average market share, the coefficient between accounts receivable and firm profitability is greater than that for competitors with a lower market share than average. It supports the hypothesis that Titman (1984) suggested, that trade credit is important for enhancing corporate profitability. It is confirmed that accounts receivables play an important role in enhancing firm profitability and it is necessary to understand this well from the corporate standpoint.

An Analysis of the Policy Effect on Institutionalization of Gender Responsive Budgeting - Focusing on World Bank 73 Countries - (성인지 예산 제도화의 정책적 효과 분석 - World Bank 73개 국가를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of the study was to point out the limitation of the conceptual discussions in which researches on gender responsive budgeting have remained so far and to empirically analyze the effect of institutionalization of gender responsive budgeting on the gender equality by using macro data. The units of the analysis were 73 countries which implements gender responsive budgeting among the 229 countries registered in the World Bank. Panel data were established on the materials of 7-year period from 2006 to 2012, which were analyzed by Fixed Effect Model. Gender Equality (Gender Gap Index) which is the ultimate goal of gender budgeting was established as the dependent variable while Institutionalization of Gender Responsive Budgeting (formal and qualitative classification) was established as the independent variable. In addition, social and economic factors, political factors and geographical factors which were judged to affect dependent variables were established as control variables. As a result of analysis, the institutionalization of gender responsive budgeting has positive effect on gender equality. Thus, the study confirmed that gender responsive budgeting has positive effect on gender equality in countries with legal, procedural and formal foundations rather than in countries with simple rhetoric in catchwords and documents. Moreover, the higher the level of institutionalization of gender responsive budgeting is, the more positive effect it has on the gender equality. Therefore, the study found out that efforts need to be accompanied to enhance the level of institutionalization in order to increase the effectiveness of institutionalization of gender responsive budgeting.

Estimation of Genetic Parameters for Somatic Cell Scores of Holsteins Using Multi-trait Lactation Models in Korea

  • The study was conducted to analyze the genetic parameters of somatic cell score (SCS) of Holstein cows, which is an important indicator to udder health. Test-day records of somatic cell counts (SCC) of 305-day lactation design from first to fifth lactations were collected on Holsteins in Korea during 2000 to 2012. Records of animals within 18 to 42 months, 30 to 54 months, 42 to 66 months, 54 to 78 months, and 66 to 90 months of age at the first, second, third, fourth and fifth parities were analyzed, respectively. Somatic cell scores were calculated, and adjusted for lactation production stages by Wilmink's function. Lactation averages of SCS ($LSCS_1$ through $LSCS_5$) were derived by further adjustments of each test-day SCS for five age groups in particular lactations. Two datasets were prepared through restrictions on number of sires/herd and dams/herd, progenies/sire, and number of parities/cow to reduce data size and attain better relationships among animals. All LSCS traits were treated as individual trait and, analyzed through multiple-trait sire models and single trait animal models via VCE 6.0 software package. Herd-year was fitted as a random effect. Age at calving was regressed as a fixed covariate. The mean LSCS of five lactations were between 3.507 and 4.322 that corresponded to a SCC range between 71,000 and 125,000 cells/mL; with coefficient of variation from 28.2% to 29.9%. Heritability estimates from sire models were within the range of 0.10 to 0.16 for all LSCS. Heritability was the highest at lactation 2 from both datasets (0.14/0.16) and lowest at lactation 5 (0.11/0.10) using sire model. Heritabilities from single trait animal model analyses were slightly higher than sire models. Genetic correlations between LSCS traits were strong (0.62 to 0.99). Very strong associations (0.96 to 0.99) were present between successive records of later lactations. Phenotypic correlations were relatively weaker (<0.55). All correlations became weaker at distant lactations. The estimated breeding values (EBVs) of LSCS traits were somewhat similar over the years for a particular lactation, but increased with lactation number increment. The lowest EBV in first lactation indicated that selection for SCS (mastitis resistance) might be better with later lactation records. It is expected that results obtained from these multi-trait lactation model analyses, being the first large scale SCS data analysis in Korea, would create a good starting step for application of advanced statistical tools for future genomic studies focusing on selection for mastitis resistance in Holsteins of Korea.

Three-dimensional finite element analysis for the effect of retentive groove design on joint strength of casting connection (유지구 설계가 주조연결강도에 미치는 영향에 관한 삼차원 유한요소법적 연구)

  • Statement of problem: A casting connection technique is widely used for repair, correction and addition to base metal framework. However, a casting connection technique may increase the risk of failure in clinical situations when high stresses exist. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanical retentive groove design comparatively to increase the joint strength by using the three-dimensional finite element analysis model of a 3-unit fixed partial denture. Material and methods: Ten finite element models were constructed. (Model A: One retentive groove, Model B: Two retentive grooves, Model C: Three retentive grooves, Model D: Four retentive grooves, Model E: One horizontal groove and two vertical grooves, Model F: Two horizontal grooves and one vertical groove, Model G: One groove with the enlarged dimension, Model H: Two grooves with the enlarged dimension, Model I: One groove with the increased height, Model J: One groove with the increased width of base). The vertical force was applied to the mesial and the distal fossa to the casting connection of mandibular first molar. Results: The main factors, affecting joint strength of casting connection were both the retention between the primary cast and the secondary cast and the thickness of the primary cast remaining after preparing retentive groove. The increase of retentive force, according to the numbers and the dimension of retentive groove had an effect on distributing stress. However, in some cases, the increase of retentive force resulted in the increase of stress by reducing thickness of the primary cast in the connection area. Conclusion: The design of retentive groove that limits number of retentive groove for metal thickness and increases the depth of retentive groove for retention is highly recommended.
