  • The bands 27.5 - 28.35GHz and 31.0 - 31.3GHz were allocated to the High Altitude Platform Station in WRC-2000. However, since these bands were already allocated to the existing fired-satellite service, the analysis on the interference effects between the existing FSS/GSO system and FS/HAPS system should be needed. To do study on the interference effects between above two systems, we can consider two frequency operational renditions, one is the Reverse mode and the other Forward mode. In this paper, we considered the Forward mode as the frequency operational condition and analyzed the interference effect from a number of GSO satellites to HAPS ground station due to the I/N values, the latitude of HAPS and the satellite separation. In future, these results will be vital data to share between HAPS and GSO systems.

  • Today, overall industry has been operated on the basis of information technology and has increased the investment on it. In the logistics industry, the integrated material handling information network has become important more and more and the investment on the informatization has been increased to operate efficiently. In the previous literature, most of the measures for the efficiency of container terminals were the variables such as fixed assets of equipments. There has not been any research effort toward examining the effect of informatization level on the efficiency. This work describes the importance on the efficiency evaluation considering the informatization level to in a container terminal and the relative efficiency level is measured using data envelopment analysis and bootstrap.

  • Generally, deposition mechanism of diamond particle is mainly embedding effect in the kinetic spray process. Accordingly, in spite of high cost, helium gas was employed as process gas to get high diamond fraction in the composite coating. In this study, the deposition behavior of bronze/diamond by kinetic spray process was compared using different process gas (helium and nitrogen). Bare (mean size of $5{\mu}m$, $20{\mu}m$) and nickel coated diamond (mean size of $26{\mu}m$) were deposited on Al 6061-T6 substrate with fixed process temperature and pressure. For comparison with experimental results, plastic deformation behavior of nickel layer was simulated by finite element analysis (using ABAQUS/Explicit 6.7-2). The size, broken ratio, and fraction of diamond in the composite coating were analyzed through scanning electron microscopy and image analysis method. The uniform distribution and deposition efficiency of diamond particles in the coating layer could be achieved by tailoring the physical properties of the feedstock.

  • In this paper, digital watermarking method using quad-tree algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm searches the significant coefficient of the watermark by using quad-tree algorithm and inserts the watermark by the Cox's algorithm. The simulation for performance analysis of the proposed algorithm is implemented about the effect of quad-tree algorithm in wavelet domain and that of embedding watermark in each subband coefficient (HH, LH, HL) and each DWT level, and that of embedding in the lowest frequency band (LL). As a simulation result, digital watermarking using quad-tree algorithm improves the watermarking performance in comparison with inserting watermark in the significant coefficients of fixed frequency band. The watermarking performance of simultaneously embedding in HH, LH, and HL band of DWT(6 level) is better than that of different cases. In addition, insertion the watermark to the LL band about 30~60% of all watermarks improves the correlation value while PSNR performance decreases 1~3dB.

  • This paper evaluates the effect of anisotropic conductivity on the seepage face and reliability index of an homogeneous dam with and without toe drain. The analysis are conducted under steady state saturated-unsaturated seepage condition using finite element method. Various anisotropic conductivity ratios were interpreted under such conditions as the vertical conductivity is reduced while the horizon conductivity is fixed. The shear strength of soil is defined by the modified Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. The analysis results demonstrate that the length of seepage face and reliability index at the downstream and upstream of the dam increase with an increasing anisotropic ratio. These results of the seepage face and reliability index, however, depend on the total head difference between the upstream slope and downstream toe. The difference in seepage face and reliability index is attributed to the different equipotential head with different anisotropic ratios of the dam material.

  • The scale and nature of the recent earthquakes in the world and the related earthquake disaster index coerce the concerned community to become anxious about it. Therefore, it is crucial that seismic lateral load effect will be appropriately considered in structural design. Application of seismic isolation system stands as a consistent alternative against this hazard. The objective of the study is to evaluate the structural and economic feasibility of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings with base isolation located in medium risk seismic region. Linear and nonlinear dynamic analyses as well as linear static analysis under site-specific bi-directional seismic excitation have been carried out for both fixed based (FB) and base isolated (BI) buildings in the present study. The superstructure and base of buildings are modeled in a 3D finite element model by consistent mass approach having six degrees of freedom at each node. The floor slabs are simulated as rigid diaphragms. Lead rubber bearing (LRB) and High damping rubber bearing (HDRB) are used as isolation device. Change of structural behaviors and savings in construction costing are evaluated. The study shows that for low to medium rise buildings, isolators can reduce muscular amount of base shears, base moments and floor accelerations for building at soft to medium stiff soil. Allowable higher horizontal displacement induces structural flexibility. Though incorporating isolator increases the outlay, overall structural cost may be reduced. The application of base isolation system confirms a potential to be used as a viable solution in economic building design.

  • In the current machining industry, machining precision is necessary and machining is being carried out. In this ultra-precision machining industry, the fixation of the workpiece is very important and the degree of machining depends on the degree of fixation of the workpiece. In ultra-precision machining, various methods, such as using a vise chuck or the like and using bolt nut coupling, are used for fixing a workpiece to an existing machine tool. In particular, when the precision gripping force of the jig is insufficient during machining of the ultra-precision mold parts, the machining material shakes due to the vibration or friction, and the machining precision is lowered. In the ultra-precision machining of power transmission parts, such as gears, the accuracy of the product is then determined. In addition, the amount of heat generated during machining has a significant effect on the machining accuracy. This is because the vibration value changes according to the grasp force of the jig that fixes the workpiece, and the change in the calorific value due to the change in the main shaft rotation speed of the ultra-precision machining. The increase in the spindle rotation speed during machining decreased the heat generation during machining, and the machining accuracy was also good, and it was confirmed that the machining heat changed according to the fixed state of the workpiece and the machining accuracy also changed. In this study, we try to optimize the driving part of the power vise by using structural analysis, rather than the power vise, using the basic mechanical-type power unit.

  • Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of masticatory muscle injection of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) on the growth of the mandibular bone in vivo. Methods: Eleven Sprague-Dawley rats were used, and BTX-A (n = 6) or saline (n = 5) was injected at 13 days of age. All injections were given to the right masseter muscle, and the BTX-A dose was 0.5 units. All of the rats were euthanized at 60 days of age. The skulls of the rats were separated and fixed with 10% formalin for micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) analysis. Results: The anthropometric analysis found that the ramus heights and bigonial widths of the BTX-A-injected group were significantly smaller than those of the saline-injected group (P < 0.05), and the mandibular plane angle of the BTX-A-injected group was significantly greater than in the saline-injected group (P < 0.001). In the BTX-A-injected group, the ramus heights II and III and the mandibular plane angles I and II showed significant differences between the injected and non-injected sides (P < 0.05). The BTX-A-injected side of the mandible in the masseter group showed significantly lower mandibular bone growth compared with the non-injected side. Conclusion: BTX-A injection into the masseter muscle influences mandibular bone growth.

  • In this paper, we introduced phase optimization techniques in the Soil-Nail design to optimize the reinforcement required for each grade level. The optimal design results at the maximum slope height were further amplified to allow for phase optimization of the horizontal spacing of the Nail in accordance with the change in the height of the slope. The limit equilibrium analysis was performed by step-by-step sloping height, and the safety factor exceeded when the horizontal spacing of four days was fixed. The process of optimization was effectively carried out by densifying the required reinforcement depending on the slope elevation. Also limited to reflect the axial force of the nail into the reinforcement details.Using the method, the members' strength was reflected. When phase optimization technique is applied for each slope height by calculating the stiffening precision, it is judged that it will be more economical to optimize horizontal intervals by effectively reducing the repeated reinterpretation process that satisfies the reference safety ratio for each slope height.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of soil and groundwater environment changed by wildfire on cesium adsorption and transport. Soil samples (A, B) used in the study were collected from Gangwon-do, where wildfires frequently occur, and the adsorption and transport of cesium in the samples were evaluated through batch and column experiments. As a result of the batch adsorption experiments with various concentrations of cesium (CW ≈ 10~105 ㎍/L), the adsorption distribution coefficient (Kd) of cesium was higher in sample A for all observed concentrations. It means that the adsorption capacity of sample A was higher to that of sample B, which was also confirmed through the parameters of adsorption isotherm models (Freundlich and Langmuir model) applied to the experimental results. The fixed bed column experiments simulated the actual soil and groundwater environment, and they showed that cesium was retarded approximately 43 and 27 times than a nonreactive tracer in sample A and B, respectively. In particular, a significant retardation occurred in the sample A. Although sample A contains little clays, total organic carbon (TOC) contents were 3 times greater than sample B. These results imply that particulate organic matter caused by wildfire might influence the adsorption and transport of cesium in the organic matter-rich soil and groundwater environment.
