  • This research proposes a method for economic-statistical design of adaptive moving average (A-MA) charts. The basic idea of the A-MA chart is to accumulate previous samples selectively in order to increase the sensitivity. The A-MA chart is a kind of adaptive chart such as the variable sampling size (VSS) chart. A major advantage of the A-MA chart over the VSS chart is that it is easy to maintain rational subgroups by using the fixed sampling size. A steady state cost rate function is constructed based on Lorenzen and Vance (1986) model. The cost rate function is optimized with respect to five design parameters. Computational experiments show that the A-MA chart is superior to the VSS chart as well as to the Shewhart $\bar{X}$ chart in the economic-statistical sense.

  • For the last five years, data mining has drawn much attention by researchers and practitioners because of its many applicable domains. This article presents an adaptive decision tree algorithm for dynamically reasoning machine failure cause out of real-time, large-scale machine status database. Among many data mining methods, intelligent decision tree building algorithm is especially of interest in the sense that it enables the automatic generation of decision rules from the tree, facilitating the construction of expert system. On the basis of experiment using semiconductor etching machine, it has been verified that our model outperforms previously proposed decision tree models.

  • This paper explains how we define and represent modality in E-HowNet. Following Lyons (1977, reviewed in Hsieh 2003, among others), we hold that modals express a speaker's opinion or attitude toward a proposition and hence have a pragmatic dimension and recognize five kinds of modal categories, i.e. epistemic, deontic, ability, volition and expectation modality. We then present a representational formalism that contains the three most basic components of modal meaning: modal category, positive or negative and strength. Such a formula can define not only modal words but also words that contain modal meanings and cope with co-compositions of modals and the negation construction.

  • Mulberry being the only food of silkworm, Bombyx mori L., is of great economic importance to the silk industry, The success in cocoon production mainly depends on the supply of quality leaves in sufficient quantity. In mulberry, where the economic product is leaf, the uptake of nitrogen from soil is very heavy and high responses to application of nutrients have been reported. Nitrogen supports vegetative growth particularly the leaf biomass. Variation in nitrogen harvest index and other physiological and yield contributing traits were estimated in five mulberry genotypes. Considerable variation was observed for nitrogen harvest index, protein yield per plant and harvest index. The correlation studies indicated the protein yield per plant was significantly correlated with leaf yield, nitrogen content in leaf, nitrogen harvest index and harvest index. The broad sense heritability estimates revealed that harvest index showed highest heritability (88.07%) followed by nitrogen content (82.52%), protein yield (70.28%) and nitrogen harvest index (66.52%).

  • This study examined one room(studio apartment) residential deweller's housing behavior and housing need, and the relationship between the sense of housing values and housing satisfaction of one-room residence, The study surveyed 302 one-room residents in Busan city. The researcher modified, complimented, and used the previous researches on housing values and housing satisfaction. The analysis of the data used SPSS Win 10.0 program. The results of the research can be summarized as follows: 1. The motive of choosing one-room residence was mainly the closeness to the school or work, Jeonse(Rent with a one-room deposit) was more common than ownership, and the size is one-room residence was 10 to 15 Pyeong. 2. Among the five housing values of one-room residence dwellers, that is, amenity, indoor and outdoor environment, economy/convenience, convenience in transportation, and the interior functionality, the convenience in transportation was ranked highest, and the indoor and out door environment and economy/convenience followed. 3. The housing satisfaction of one-room residents was highest in location, and also high in the safety and the security or privacy, and the convenience of inside facility.

  • Robotic software has been dramatically complicated as performing intelligent service tasks. These types of robots demand a very powerful software framework to make them easy. Robotic software framework means an integrated software environment that simplifies jobs of robotic software engineer by providing tools, reusable components, and runtime environments. Finally it reduces the project cost. There are lots of works related with them. Among them we focus on five frameworks that are MSRDS, ERSP, OROCOS, OpenRTM, and OPRoS. In terms of intelligent service robot, the study on robotic software frameworks is very important. And outlook on them is also very important in the sense of that the robotic software frameworks should be used to initiate service robot market.

  • This study investigated the landscape space of Chosun Dynasty pavilions in the Sang-ju Region. Five renowned pavilions were selected for study by Phenomenological and IDRISI (4.1) S/W. The results were as follows ; Pavilions were erected for studying cultivating moral sense admiring the view relieving illness and commemorat memoring people. A total of 248 pavilions were erected in the Sang-ju Region between 1392 and 1895 AD, most of them duing he golden age from 15001670 AD. Pavilions and open space were composed in harmony with nature borrowing natural landscape features. Landscape characteristics were analysised with IDRISI(4.1) S/W; pavilions were ma711y located at the bottom of a mountain with stream The Inner garden was formed by a fence and Lagerstroemia indica or a few trees. The Outer garden was formed by mixed stands of Pinus dentsiflora, Zelkowa serreta, Acer formosum and well conserved natural vegetation.

  • In Asian countries, paddy field is indispensable for our lives not only as a source of food but also ecosystem, hydrology, landscape, culture and global warming. In this sense it is necessary to get the detailed spatial distribution of paddy field in Asian region. Remote sensing seems to be the most appropriate tool to estimate paddy field. In this study, two Terra/ASTER images acquired on different date were used to get a map of paddy field with different planting. ASTER's 15-m resolution was found to be enough to be recognize individual paddy field . Paddies with different planting stages were divided into five types using their spectral patterns. As a result a map of paddies with different planting was obtained with tolerably high accuracy.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a complex exercise program for elderly people who had experienced a fall on their balance ability and proprioception when their visual sense was blocked. Methods: The subjects were 24 elderly people with experienced fall. They were equally and randomly divided into a blind group and a general group. The subjects performed the complex exercise program for 30 minutes, twice a day, five days a week for 4 weeks a total of 20 times. Outcome measures were the 10-meter walking test (10MWT), Berg balance scale (BBS), Fukuda stepping test(FST), proprioception test (PT). Results: After the intervention, the blind group showed improvements in 10MWT, BBS, FST, PT. The general group showed improvements in 10MWT and PT. Conclusions: The complex exercise program for elderly people helped enhance their balance ability and proprioception.
