  • PURPOSE: This study analyzed the effectiveness of respiratory exercise in stroke patients conducted in Korea over the past 10 years (2012-2023). METHODS: Using the RISS, KCI, KISS, and NDSL databases, previous studies on stroke and respiratory exercise were searched, and relevant articles were collected following the PRISMA guidelines. Twelve articles were selected, and the quality of the studies was evaluated using the PEDro scale. RESULTS: Twelve studies were selected, and the qualitative evaluation of these studies showed that five articles received a score of six out of 10, while five articles received a score of five. The remaining two articles received scores of four and three, respectively. The intervention duration for respiratory exercise ranged from 20 to 30 minutes per session, with a frequency of three to five sessions per week, conducted over a period of three to eight weeks. These results indicated that respiratory exercise effectively improved the respiratory function, physical function, and respiratory muscle activation in stroke patients. CONCLUSION: Respiratory exercise was reported to have a positive affect the respiratory function, physical activity, and respiratory muscle activation in stroke patients.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the fractal dimension of successive panoramic radiographs of bone after implant placement is useful in the characterization of structural change in alveolar bone. Materials and Methods. Twelve subjects with thirty-five implants were retrospectively followed-up from one week to six months after implantation. Thirty-six panoramic radiographs from twelve patients were classified into 1 week, 1-2 months and 3-6 months after implantation and digitized. The windows of bone apical and mesial or distal to the implant were defined as periapical region of interest (ROI) and interdental ROI; the fractal dimension of the image was calculated. Results There was not a statistically significant difference in fractal dimensions during the period up to 6 months after implantation. The fractal dimensions were higher in 13 and 15mm than 10 and 11.5mm implant length at interdental ROIs in 3-6 months after implantation (P<0.01). Conclusion : Longer fixtures showed the higher fractal dimension of bone around implant. This investigation needs further exploration with large numbers of implants for longer follow-up periods.

  • Recombinant granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor was subcutaneously administered to both sexes of Sprague-Dawley rats at the doses of 0, 0.5, 1 and 2mg/kg of body weight five days per week for 4 weeks to evaluate the subchronic toxicity. There were decreased 1 and 2 mg/kg. In the serum, changes were decreased alkaline phostatase(ALP) in the female groups dosed at 1 and 2mg/kg, and increased glutamic oxaloacetic transaminiase (GOT)in the male groups dosed at 0.5 and 2.0mg/kg.

  • In the chickens removed the left thyroid gland or administrated with thiouracil, fatty liver (FL) and fatty liver-hemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS) were induced within five weeks after treatment. FL was observed in all of the thyroidectomized layer and broiler hens, and the occurrence of FLHS was higher in rate at the fifth week than that at the third week after removal. FL and FLHS were observed in the thiouracil-administrated broiler hens, but the rate of incidence was appeared to be lower in the thiouracil-administrated hens than in the thyroidectomized chickens. It was suggested that hypothyoidism could be an important factor inducing FLHS.

  • This study was designed to investigate calcium intake, calcium excretion, and calcium absorption rate of the college women in Korea. The subjects of this experiment were five healthy college women aged from 18 to 23 years who lived in Seoul. The period of this experiment was two weeks, the first week was spent in having an ordinary diet and the next week for the experimental diet. Two weeks later, the feces of subjects were collected. Results obtained by the present experiment were as follows: 1) The total food intake from the experimental diet daily was about $1600{\sim}2000g$. 2) The total calcium intake was about $270{\sim}585mg$ and $710{\sim}880mg$ for the ordinary diet and the experimental diet respectively. 3) The daily calcium excretion of feces was about $219{\sim}295mg$. 4) The calcium absorption rate of subjects was about $60{\sim}70%$.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of interview techniques on memory accuracy and suggestibility of preschool children. Forty-five preschool children participated in a magic show(target event) and 1 week later, all children received suggestive interview in two conditions(language condition & drawing condition). Another 1 week later, all children's recall contents of the magic show was assessed. During suggestive interview, children in drawing condition show more 'acception' response than children in language condition, and children in the question condition show less 'remember' response than children in drawing condition. In second interview children reported more words, and specially ones in language condition report more suggested words than ones in drawing condition. Finally, children's recalls were more accurate on controled informations of the event than on suggestive.

  • This study evaluated the effect of time before addition and surface treatment on the shear bond strength between new and old(direct and indirect) composites. One hundred specimens of Charisma(Heraeus Kulzer, Germany) and thirty-five of Artglass(Heraeus Kulzer, Germany) were prepared in cavities($10mm{\times}5mm$) in acrylic resin molds. Charisma specimens were stored for 5min., 1hr., 24hrs., and 1 week in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water and Artglass specimens were stored for 1 week in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water.(omitted)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the beverage consumption and related factors of undergraduates in Jeonnam. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 480 undergraduates in Jeonnam from June 1 to 15, 2016 based on convenience sampling. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, beverage intake frequency, and awareness of beverage. Results: Carbonated beverage intake was 3.05 times per week and five kinds of beverage consumption was 12.48 times per week. Higher beverage intake was closely related to male students, higher beverage purchase, and lower awareness toward oral health impact by beverage and sugar contents. Conclusions: The recognition level of beverage related to oral health had an impact on the frequency of drink intake. It is necessary to educate the dietary guide for appropriate oral health management in beverage intake.

  • This study aimed to improve mothers' knowledge, attitude, and practice of home safety. The study subjects were 146 mothers who were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. The intervention group received a Home Safety program at a childcare center for 90 minutes once a week for 5 sessions, while the control group received no treatment. The scores of the mothers in the intervention group were significantly increased compared to those in the control group after the five-week program. The mothers' safety practice lasted for at least two weeks after the termination of this program.

  • The study aimed to improve the injury belief, injury prevention behavior, and safety fulfillment confidence of teachers of infants and toddlers in childcare centers. The study subjects were 376 teachers who were assigned to either the intervention group or the control group. The intervention group participated in an Injury Prevention Program for infants and toddlers for 100 minutes once a week for a total of 5 sessions, while the control group did not. The collected data were statistically analyzed through the independent t-test and paired t-test. The injury belief and injury prevention behavior test scores of the teachers in the intervention group were significantly increased compared to those in the control group after the completion of the five-week program.
