The performance of relational database is measured by the number of disk accesses necessary to transfer data from disk to main memory. The paper proposes to vertically partition relations into fragments and to allow attribute replication to reduce the number of disk accesses. To reduce the computational time, heuristic search method using genetic algorithm is used. Genetic algorithm used employs a rank-based-sharing fitness function and elitism. Desirable parameters of genetic algorithm are obtained through experiments and used to find the solutions. Solutions of attribute replication and attribute non-replication problems are compared. Optimal solutions obtained by branch and bound method and by heuristic solutions(genetic algorithm) are also discussed. The solution method proposed is able to solve large-sized problems within acceptable time limit and shows solutions near the optimal value.
The purpose of the study is to develop and validate an instructional design model from the perspective of the knowledge creation. To serve the purpose, the researcher conducted 1) literature review to find causal relationship model among knowledge creation factors and to propose a hypothetical instructional design model, 2) data analysis with 50 senior level e-Learning instructional designers, and 3) testing the fitness of the proposed model and relevant causal-relational hypotheses. Results indicate; 1) the proposed model fit to the empirical evidence, 2) 6 hypotheses among 11 were validated. A typical instructional designer's personal competency was evidenced as the most powerful independent variable that predicted knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, and the application of the instructional models. However, the expected effect of instructional design models toward other dependent variable was not be found. In addition, further suggestions for the future research are addressed.
Residential apartment underground structures are being utilized for many purposes such as parking lots, community centers, fitness centers, etc. for efficient use of space. However, there are increasing problems of leakage due to various environmental and deterioration conditions. This paper proposes the development of an information network system which can serve as a base to provide solutions, alternatives and technical information for leakage prevention and effective design at the beginning of the construction stage.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the preference of spatial elements for common space planning in senior congregate housing. For the study, 500 potential consumer's residing in Seoul was surveyed using the questionnaire in the social survey methodology. As for the common spaces, gardens, treatment, and exercise rooms were preferred. A combination of both separate and group arrangement of the buildings was preferred, indicating that people wanted separation of the common space and the individual living units. Second, people preferred sharing parts of the common space with their neighbors and as is the traditional custom, preferred to take off their shoes at the entrance to individual units. Third, for the furniture and facilities, they wanted the manager room in the lobby, the small meeting rooms in the public dining room, a fitness center in the activity room, the rack or alcove to store items in front of an individuals unit in the hallway, a chair to sit down in the elevator, and the chair to rest on the stairway landing. Fourth, in terms of priority for planning the senior citizens' community housing, safety, familiarity like a regular home, reduced isolation and loneliness, sense of belonging, economic factors, aesthetic appreciation, daily life supplement, variety, and self-identity were answered in that order.
In an attempt to solve multiobjective optimization problems, many traditional methods scalarize the objective vector into a single objective. In those cases, the obtained solution is highly sensitive to the weight vector used in the scalarization process and demands the user to have knowledge about the underlying problem. Moreover, in solving multiobjective problems, designers may be interested in a set of Pareto-optimal points, instead of a single point. In this paper, pareto-based Continuous Evolutionary Algorithms for Multiobjective Optimization problems having continuous search space are introduced. This algorithm is based on Continuous Evolutionary Algorithms to solve single objective optimization problems with a continuous function and continuous search space efficiently. For multiobjective optimization, a progressive reproduction operator and a niche-formation method fur fitness sharing and a storing process for elitism are implemented in the algorithm. The operator and the niche formulation allow the solution set to be distributed widely over the Pareto-optimal tradeoff surface. Finally, the validity of this method has been demonstrated through a numerical example.
In order to improve the performance of relational databases, one has to reduce the number of disk accesses necessary to transfer data from disk to main memory. The paper proposes to reduce the number of disk I/O accesses by vertically partitioning relation into fragments and allowing attribute replication to fragments if necessary. When zero-one integer programming model is solved by the branch-and-bound method, it requires much computing time to solve a large sized problem. Therefore, heuristic solutions using genetic algorithm(GA) are presented. GA in this paper adapts a few ideas which are different from traditional genetic algorithms, for examples, a rank-based sharing fitness function, elitism and so on. In order to improve performance of GA, a set of optimal parameter levels is determined by the experiment and makes use of it. As relations are vertically partitioned allowing attribute replications and saved in disk, an attribute replicating vertical partition method by GA can attain less access cost than non-attribute-replication one and require less computing time than the branch-and-bound method in large-sized problems. Also, it can acquire a good solution similar to the optimum solution in small-sized problem.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to test fitness of the structured model of SNS activities for health information. Methods : A structured questionnaire were administered to 500 subjects. A structural equation model was applied to collected data. Results : The response rate was 73.9%. The respondents mostly used Facebook and KakaoStory. They spent 70 minutes per day and 21~30% of this usage was taken by health information. In the variances, those who has religion more actively exchanged information about diseases and medical institutions. The goodness-of-fit of the model was .81(GFI) and .90(CFI). The main path was bridging capital -> bonding capital -> credibility -> SNS activities for health information. The path from quality of sharing information to SNS activities was not significant. It could be explained by the restriction of digital literacy. Conclusions : SNS activities for health information were determined by credibility, currency and bonding social capital. Bridging social capital, indirectly, influenced SNS activities through bonding social capital. Thus building bonding social capital would be a critical success factor for SNS.
This study was performed to identify the tendency and benefits of outdoor recreation in rural areas. The preferences and importance of the benefits of outdoor recreation activities in rural areas were simultaneously compared and analyzed through the discussion of a four quadrants portfolio map using importance-performance analysis. The social benefits in quadrant i had the characteristics of 'sharing nice experiences with others', 'having contact/interchange with others', 'colleagueship/helping each other', 'being together with friends', and 'making new friends.' These social benefit types were perceived as very important characteristics, but the real level of achievement was rather low. Thus it seems necessary, in the process of program development, to apply the social benefit types to the characteristics of the participants. The experience of nature and relaxation benefits in quadrant ii had the characteristics of 'relaxation and recreation', 'understanding nature', 'nature experience', 'getting away from everyday life', and 'experiencing new things.' These benefits and experience of nature were regarded as very important characteristics by the participants in outdoor recreation and, at the same time, their real achievements were highly recognized, thus they seemed to be proper types for the goals involved in developing an outdoor recreation activity program in rural areas. The personal and challenge benefits in quadrant iv had the characteristics of 'training of mental ability', 'improvement of self-esteem', 'fitness', 'increase in determination', 'possible danger', 'achievement', 'excitement', and 'adventure.' These benefits had less importance to the participants, but had relatively high achievement, thus it might be important to make further suggestions for the direction of development according to the participants' tendency, seasons and facilities.
