This study examined several kinematic properties of the primary articulator (the tongue dorsum) and the supplementary articulator (the jaw) in the articulation of the voiceless velar stop (/k/) within nonassimilating contexts. We examined in particular the spatiotemporal properties (constriction duration and constriction maxima) from the constriction onset to the constriction offset by analyzing a velar (/k/) followed by the coronal fricative (/s/), the coronal stop (/t/), and the labial (/p/) in across-word boundary conditions (/k#s/, /k#t/, and /k#p/). Along with these measurements, we investigated intergestural temporal coordination between C1 and C2 and the jaw articulator in relation to its coordination with the articulation of consonant sequences. The articulatory movement data was collected by means of electromagnetic midsagittal articulometry (EMMA). Four native speakers of Seoul Korean participated in the laboratory experiment. The results showed several characteristics. First, a velar (/k/) in C1 was not categorically reduced. Constriction duration and constriction degree of the velar (/k/) were similar within nonassimilating contexts (/k#s/=/k#t/=/k#p/). This might mean that spatiotemporal attributes during constriction duration were stable and consistent across different contexts, which might be subsequently associated with the nontarget status of the velar in place assimilation. Second, the gestural overlap could be represented as the order of /k#s/ (less) < /k#p/ (intermediate) < /k#t/ (more) as we measured the onset-to-onset lag (a longer lag indicated shorter gestural overlap.). This indicates a gestural overlap within nonassimilating contexts may not be constrained by any of the several constraints including the perceptual recoverability constraint (e.g., more overlap in Front-to-Back sequences compared to the reverse order (Back-to-Front) since perceptual cues in C1 can be recovered anytime during C2 articulation), the low-level speech motor constraint (e.g., more overlap in lingual-nonlingual sequences as compared to the lingual-lingual sequences), or phonological contexts effects (e.g., similarity in gestural overlap within nonassimilating contexts). As one possible account for more overlap in /k#t/ sequences as compared to /k#p/, we suspect speakers' knowledge may be receptive to extreme encroachment on C1 by the gestural overlap of the coronal in C2 since it does not obscure the perceptual cue of C1 as much as the labial in C2. Third, actual jaw position during C2 was higher in coronals (/s/, /t/) than in the labial (/p/). However, within the coronals, there was no manner-dependent jaw height difference in C2 (/s/=/t/). Vertical jaw position of C1 and C2 was seen as inter-dependent as higher jaw position in C1 was closely associated with C2. Lastly, a greater gap in jaw height was associated with longer intergestural timing (e.g., less overlap), but was confined to the cluster type (/kp/) with the lingual-nonlingual sequence. This study showed that Korean jaw articulation was independent from coordinating primary articulators in gestural overlap in some cluster types (/k#s/, /k#t/) while not in others (e.g., /k#p/). Overall, the results coherently indicate the velar stop (/k/) in C1 was robust in articulation, which may have subsequently contributed to the nontarget status of the velar (/k/) in place assimilation processes.

Purpose : Thyroid hormone is essential for development of the brain in early life. Thyroid dysfunction is more common in the first 2-4 postnatal weeks of life in premature infants than in term infants. This study aimed to identify the prevalence and clinical course of thyroid dysfunction in prematurity. Methods : Premature infants admitted to and given neonatal screenings at Dankook University Hospital between April 1999 and March 2008 were included in this study. We retrospectively reviewed medical records and categorized subjects into six groups: normal, hypothyroidism, hyperthyrotropinemia, hypothyroxinemia, delayed onset of hypothyroidism, and delayed onset of hyperthyrotropinemia. Results : Among 599 subjects, 136 (23%) had initially abnormal thyroid function test (TFT); transient hypothyroxinemia was the most frequent condition (118, 20%). In addition, 8 (17%) of 46 subjects with initially normal TFT levels showed delayed onset of hyperthyrotropinemia with or without low free thyroxine ($fT_4$). Thyroxine was prescribed for 10 patients (1.7%) due to low $fT_4$ levels but was discontinued in 9 patients during follow-up. Thyroid scan confirmed ectopic thyroid in one patient. Conclusion : Thyroid dysfunction was frequently seen in premature infants, but most of the conditions were transient. In addition, some infants showed delayed TSH elevation on routine follow-up. Therefore, a recheck of the thyroid function of premature infants at 3-4 weeks is recommended, even if normal thyroid function is initially seen, especially in prematurity of less than 33 weeks of gestational age or birth weight of less than 2,500 grams.
The drop formation dynamics of a shear thinning, elastic, yield stress ($\tau_o$) fluid (Carbopol 980 (poly(acrylic acid)) dispersions) in silicone oil has been investigated in a flow-focusing microfluidic channel. The rheological character of each solution investigated varied from Netwonian-like through to highly non-Newtonian and was varied by changing the degree of neutralization along the poly (acrylic acid) backbone. We have observed that the drop size of these non-Newtonian fluids (regardless of the degree of neutralisation) showed bimodal behaviour. At first we observed increases in drop size with increasing viscosity ratio (viscosity ratio=viscosity of dispersed phase (DP)/viscosity of continuous phase (CP)) at low flowrates of the continuous phases, and thereafter, decreasing drop sizes as the flow rate of the CP increases past a critical value. Only at the onset of pinching and during the high extensional deformation during pinch-off of a drop are any differences in the non-Newtonian characteristics of these fluids, that is extents of shear thinning, elasticity and yield stress ($\tau_o$), apparent. Changes in these break-off dynamics resulted in the observed differences in the number and size distribution of secondary drops during pinch-off for both fluid classes, Newtonian-like and non-Newtonian fluids. In the case of the Newtonian-like drops, a secondary drop was generated by the onset of necking and breakup at both ends of the filament, akin to end-pinching behavior. This pinch-off behavior was observed to be unaffected by changes in viscosity ratio, over the range explored. Meanwhile, in the case of the non-Newtonian solutions, discrete differences in behaviour were observed, believed to be attributable to each of the non-Newtonian properties of shear thinning, elasticity and yield stress. The presence of a yield stress ($\tau_o$), when coupled with slow flow rates or low viscosities of the CP, reduced the drop size compared to the Newtonian-like Carbopol dispersions of much lower viscosity. The presence of shear thinning resulted in a rapid necking event post onset, a decrease in primary droplet size and, in some cases, an increase in the rate of drop production. The presence of elasticity during the extensional flow imposed by the necking event allowed for the extended maintenance of the filament, as observed previously for dilute solutions of linear polymers during drop break-up.

Behavioural estrus and short estrous cycles were observed and serum concentrations of estradiol-17$\beta$(E2) before and after of estrous were measured following superovulation treatments in 30 pluriparous Korean native goats. The goats were divided into 2 groups. Fifteen goats were injected IM with 1,000IU PMSG on Day 12 of the estrous cycle followed by 10mg PGF2$\alpha$ 48h later(P4+PMSG), and the other 15 goats were injected IM with 10mg progesterone(P4)in oil once daily for 10d beginning at any days of estrous cycle followed by 1,000IU PMSG and 10mg PGF2$\alpha$ at the 8th day of progesterone treatment(P4+PMSG group). After injection of PGF2$\alpha$, onset of standing estrus occurred in 12 of 15 goats(80.0%) at 50.0$\pm$7.7h and in 11 of 15 goats(73.3%) at 135.6$\pm$10.1h in PMSG and group and P4+PMSG group, respectively. The mean interval from PGF2$\alpha$ injection to first estrus was significantly(P<0.01) earlier in PMSG group than in P4+PMSG group. This result indicate that the delayed infusion of P4 in P4+PMSG group caused the later exhibition of their estrous behaviors. However, duration fo frist estrus(31.5$\pm$2.6h vs 26.2$\pm$2.3h), length of estrous cycle(14.1$\pm$3.3d vs 16.6$\pm$3.8d) and percentage of short estrous cycle(50.0% vs 45.5%) were not different between PMSG and P4+PMSG group. The mean concentration of serum E2 in 4 goats showing normal estrous cycle in P4+PMSG group(PP-NEC) was higher than in 6 goats showing normal(P-NEC) or in 6 goats showing short estrous cycle(P-SEC) in PMSG group. The peak level of serum E2 was observed at the time of onset of standing estrus in PP-NEC(67.6pg/ml), 6h earlier in P-NEC(53.1pg/ml) and 6h later in P-SEC(52.3pg/ml) than the onset of standing estrus. The profiles of serum concentration of E2 during the period of peri-estrus was similar in the goats of PMSG or P4+PMSG and also in the goats showing the subsequent estrous cycle of normal or short length.

Objective : Despite the high prevalence and clinical importance of panic disorder, studies on the clinical characteristics and course of panic disorder are relatively rare. This study is a multi-center, and retrospective study to examine the clinical characteristics and course of Korean panic disorder patients who visit university hospital. Methods : The study subjects were panic disorder patients who had visited the psychiatric outpatient clinics of 8 university hospitals in South Korea from January to December in 2008. Finally, 238 panic patients were included in this study. Their medical charts were retrospectively reviewed and reassessed by experienced psychiatrists to examine their clinical characteristics, demographic data and clinical course in repose to pharmacotherapy. Results : Among the 238 patients (121 males vs. 117 females), the mean age of disease onset was $41.3{\pm}12.7$ years and female patients showed 5 years older age of disease onset, compared with male patients. The mean score of PSR scale was $4.5{\pm}1.0$ at the first visit, reflecting a 'marked' level of severity of illness and impairment in functioning. Only 110 patients (46.4%) completed the whole follow up visits, whereas 128 patients (53.6%) dropped out during the treatment. After $17.7{\pm}0.5$ months of mean follow up period, the mean score of PSR scale at the last visit was reduced into $2.1{\pm}0.9$, reflecting a 'residual' severity of illness and impairment in functioning. The cumulative recovery rate was 62.1% in the completer group, whereas that of the drop-out group was 47.7%. Conclusions : The mean age of disease onset in Korean panic disorder patients who had visited university hospital was about 10 years older than that of Western panic disorder patients in previous studies, and the Korean panic disorder patients who had visited university hospital showed a relatively higher cumulative recovery rate. These differences might result from an ethnic difference in clinical characteristics and course in response to pharmacotherapy of panic disorder.
P $b_2$S $r_2$( $Y_{1-x}$ C $a_{x}$)C $u_3$$O_{8+}$$\delta$/ samples were prepared with x=0.4~0.6 and small $\delta$. To minimize the extent of oxidative decomposition reaction which occurs during the preparation of this phase, two annealing steps were adopted : First, sintered samples of P $b_2$S $r_2$( $Y_{1-x}$ C $a_{x}$)C $u_3$$O_{8+}$$\delta$/ are oxygenated under 100% $O_2$, which leads to a large $\delta$(e.g., $\delta$=1.8). Second, the resulting samples are deoxygenated under 0.1~1.0% $O_2$in $N_2$, lowering $\delta$ to desired values. This two-step annealing procedure minimized the extent of oxidative decomposition. However, even with the two-step annealing procedure, the oxidative decomposition of P $b_2$S $r_2$( $Y_{1-x}$ C $a_{x}$)C $u_3$$O_{8+}$$\delta$/ cannot be completely suppressed if $\delta$ is to be reduced to maximize $T_{c}$. Electrical resistivity data show that $T_{c}$(onset) is a function of hole concentration in the Cu $O_2$layer, and the optimum hole concentration for the maximum $T_{c}$ is achieved when $Ca^{2+}$is substituted for $Y^{3+}$between 0.5 and 0.6 A $T_{c}$(onset)=80K has been observed for one such sample, and this is the highest $T_{c}$(onset) yet reported for this compound.ed for this compound.nd.

Here we consider the inertial effect in a horizontal mushy layer during solidification of a binary alloy. Using perturbation technique, we obtain two systems, one of zero order and the other of first order. We consider a mushy layer with an impermeable mush-liquid interface and of constant permeability. The analysis reveals that the effect of inertial parameter is stabilizing in the sense that the critical Rayleigh number at the onset of motion increases by the inertial effect.
Kleine-Levin syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of hypersomnia, hyperphagia, hypersexuality and delusion and hallucination with spontaneous recovery. A 17-year-old female suddenly showed hypersomnia, severe fatigue, and compulsive hyperphagia. She was diagnosed with suspected Kleine-Levin Syndrome. The precipitating factor was an upper respiratory tract infection that the patient had undergone 2 weeks prior. Past psychiatric history included somnambulism and ADHD; her symptoms of ADHD included attention deficit, impulsiveness, hyperactivity, and irritability. This was her third episode. Her hypersomnia was longer in duration but lower in frequency compared with usual KLS. Her low LF/HF ratio in heart rate variability measurement showed high parasympathetic nerve activity. A MMPI report showed some psychological problem. The patient was diagnosed of gastric fever by pattern identification. Her hypersomnia episode improved 6 weeks after onset. This is the first reported case of suspected Kleine-Levin Syndrome in the field of Oriental Medicine in Korea.
The objective of the present work is to estimate the strength and failure characteristics of symmetric thin square laminates under negative shear load. Two progressive failure analyses, one using the Hashin criterion and the other using a Tensor polynomial criterion, are used in conjunction with the finite element method. First-order shear-deformation theory along with geometric nonlinearity in the von Karman sense has been incorporated in the finite element modeling. Failure loads, associated maximum transverse displacements, locations and modes of failure including the onset of delamination are discussed in detail; these are found to be quite different from those for the positive sheer load reported in Part I of this study (Singh et al. 1998).
