  • It is a relatively rare clinical experience to see the impacted first molar. The first permanent molar is the key in normal occlusion. Abnormal eruption of the first permanent molars would inflict normal development of dental arches and give rise to abnormal root resorption of the adjacent teeth. Therefore, the abnormally erupted first permanent molars should be detected and treated early in order to obtain proper occlusal guidance in mixed dentition period. This report presents two cases on distally tilted and impacted mandibular first molars which were treated by surgical exposure and orthodontic traction using facial mask.

  • The purpose of this experiment was to examine the antimicrobial effect of the natural flavonoid hesperidin on dental caries and alveolar bone resorption in the albinorats. Twenty five day old male rats were fed with the experimental diets for 42 days. At the end of the 42 day experimental period, the molar tooth occlusal surface was examined by a dissecting microscope. The sulcular caries lesions were recorded: the first molar caries incidence was higher than that of the second molar and the third molar. Alvelolar bone resorption was measured on the buccal and lingual aspects of each molars. Three measurements were taken on the first molar (mesialpoint, midpoint, distalpoint). The results of this experiments, showed that hesperidin is effective in reducing dental caries and alveolar bone resorption.

  • This study was to measure formaldehyde emission and bonding strength of plywoods manufactured with urea-melamine formaldehyde adhesives, which were made from three different mixing ratios of urea and melamine, and with four different formaldehyde/urea-melamine molar ratios of 1.0,1.1,1.2 and 1.4. The results were as follows 1. Amount of formaldehyde emission was the lowest at the first method of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.0. Amounts of formaldehyde emission of experimental manufactured adhesives were lower than that of commercial adhesive. 2. Bonding strength of dry specimen was the highest at the first method of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.4. Dry bonding strength of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.4 was similar to commercial adhesive. 3. Bonding strength of wet specimen was the highest at the second method of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.4. Bonding strength of wet specimen used by the third method of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.4 was almost equal to commercial adhesive.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stress distributions of the fixed partial denture with five unit intermediate abutment. This fixed partial denture was attached to a three dimensional photoelastic epoxy resin model. Three dimensional photoelastic models were used, with the stress areas recorded photographically. A vertical load was applied to the second molar, which is the most posterior abutment of the fixed partial denture. Similarly, a vertical load was applied to the first molar because this tooth receives the heaviest masticatory load. These loads were added to two types of fixed partial denture. the rigid connector, and the nonrigid connector which was connected on the distal side of the intermediate abutment by a key and keyway device. After the stress patterns in surrounding tissues were observed, the following conclusions were as follows: 1. When the vertical load was applied to the first and second molars on the occlusal surfaces, the surrounding tissues of the roots of the canine, the second premolar, and the second molar were all compressive stresses. 2. When the vertical load was applied on the occlusal surface of the second molar, the tissue surrounding the roots of the canine, the second premolar, and the second molar all showed more stresses with the nonrigid connector than with the rigid connector. 3. When the vertical load was applied to the occlusal surface of the first molar, the stress concentration on the canine and the second molar was similar, whether the rigid or nonrigic connectors were used. However, on the second premolar, the stress concentration shown by the nonrigid connector was noticeably more than that shown by the rigid connector. 4. Whether the rigid or nonrigid connectors were used, when the load was placed on the first molar, the stress concentration on the canine and the second premolar was greater than that observed for the second molar. When the load was placed on the second molar, the load affected the second molar more than the canine and the second premolar.

  • The technology of precision attachments has developed at such a pace that from a very few T-shaped attachments and bar attachments from the years 1915 to 1935 since removable bridge utilizing a T-shaped intracoronal attachment was constructed by Dr. Herman E.S. Chayes in 1906. There are now more than 120 models of the most diversified designs, ready made or laboratory fashioned. In 1971, 126 attachments were listed and classified by Mensor in his E M Attachment Selector. This selector consists of five charts giving specifications as to type, vertical dimensions, application, type of resilience, size of movement, type of retention and type of material and alloy. Thus the E M Attachment Selector is a useful guide for dentists to choose the attachment for his patients. But dentists should apply the attachment in each patient's case according to an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. This paper is a case report of removable partial dentures utilizing CSP, PD and Bar attachment on a patient who needed full mouth reconstruction. Patient has right first, second molar and left first molar on the upper arch and also left first molar, first premolar and right canine on the lower arch. (Fig. 5)All remaining teeth are relatively healthy in their supporting tissues. On upper arch, ring shape CSP attachment was designed on left first molar and modified ring shape CSP attachment was designed on right first and second molar as the direct retainer of the removable partial denture. Full palatal coverage was used as the major connector in this case. (Fig. 23) On lower arch, author first splinted with a fixed bridge between left first molar and second premolar and a splint bar between left second premolar and right canine. (Fig. 11) A lower removable partial denture in which was designed with an Aker clasp on the left first molar and a PD attachment on .the right canine was constructed. (Fig. 17) This denture could get additional support from anterior splint bar. After both removable partial dentures were delivered to the patient (Fig. 26), author evaluated function of the dentures and supporting structures of the abutment teeth by means of clinical and X-ray examinations for eighteen months. According to the examination data author came to the conclusion that the prognosis of this case was excellent.

  • Objective: Treating Class II subdivision malocclusion with asymmetry has been a challenge for orthodontists because of the complicated characteristics of asymmetry. This study aimed to explore the characteristics of dental and skeletal asymmetry in Class II subdivision malocclusion, and to assess the relationship between the condyle-glenoid fossa and first molar. Methods: Cone-beam computed tomographic images of 32 patients with Class II subdivision malocclusion were three-dimensionally reconstructed using the Mimics software. Forty-five anatomic landmarks on the reconstructed structures were selected and 27 linear and angular measurements were performed. Paired-samples t-tests were used to compare the average differences between the Class I and Class II sides; Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used for analyzing the linear association. Results: The faciolingual crown angulation of the mandibular first molar (p < 0.05), sagittal position of the maxillary and mandibular first molars (p < 0.01), condylar head height (p < 0.01), condylar process height (p < 0.05), and angle of the posterior wall of the articular tubercle and coronal position of the glenoid fossa (p < 0.01) were significantly different between the two sides. The morphology and position of the condyle-glenoid fossa significantly correlated with the three-dimensional changes in the first molar. Conclusions: Asymmetry in the sagittal position of the maxillary and mandibular first molars between the two sides and significant lingual inclination of the mandibular first molar on the Class II side were the dental characteristics of Class II subdivision malocclusion. Condylar morphology and glenoid fossa position asymmetries were the major components of skeletal asymmetry and were well correlated with the three-dimensional position of the first molar.

  • The first function of occlusion is mastication. Therefore the functional restoration of occlusal surface is very important. The restoration of occlusal surface is three method as wax bite technique, F.G.P. technique, cone technique. Many dental technician is using compound method. I am using compound method of wax bite technique and cone technique. I have knew common point on each teeth during I have waxing up wax pattern. So I studied on the design waxup technique for mandible molar occlusion. The results of the study were as follows; 1. The dam wax up method can restore axial contour of teeth very easy and make short working time of wax pattern. 2. The height of dam must be same with cusp of adjacent teeth. 3. Automatically the contour of tooth is appeared if the contour of dam is relationship with cuspid line of adjacent teeth. 4. The height of contour of buccal, lingual surface is formed natural curve to add fluid wax by gravitation. 5. The development groove of mandible first premolar is appeared V form. 6. The development groove of mandible second premolar is appeared Y form. 7, The development groove of mandible first molar is appeared M form. 8. The development groove of mandible second molar is W form. 9. The embrasure is formed to carve around contact point area as round convex. It affects to axial form of tooth. 10. The buccal, lingual groove of molar is formed parallel with direction of teeth arrangement.
