This study was performed to evaluate the effect of low-power laser irradiation on the periodontium of the orthodontically moved tooth of rat. The experimental materials were 30 male rats. Orthodontic appliances were placed bilaterally between maxillary first molar and incisor teeth and the force was 1 Oz. Experimental animals were divided into eight groups as follows: no movement, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 14th, and 28th day groups. In all experimental animals except no movement group, low-power laser was irradiated on the unilateral maxillary first molar (experimental side), but on the contralateral side, only orthodontic force was applied (control side). The histologic effects of laser on the periodontium of the orthodontically moved tooth on the consecutive experimental days were as follows: In the experimental side, by the biostimulating effect of laser, 1. Hyalinized tissue was formed later and eliminated earlier than in the control side. 2. Undermining bone resorption was occurred earlier than in the control side. 3. More osteoid tissue was deposited and calcified earlier than in the control side. 4. The most prominent changes were formation of new blood vessels and dilatation of old blood vessels.
The purpose of this case report is to provide the information of the treatment of the impacted-displaced teeth associated with the disease in the jaw. A 10-year-old boy presented with a large radiolucent lesion accompanying the displacement of the second premolar and first molar in the left mandibular body area. The lesion was diagnosed as unicystic ameloblastoma. As a surgical procedure for the present case, marsupialization was executed. For the eruption of displaced impacted teeth, no orthodontic intervention was done for second premolar while a helical spring was used for the forced eruption of first molar. Goof occlusion was established by simple orthodontic intervention.
The purpose of this study was compare the fracture strength of the IPS Empress ceramic crown according to the occlusal depth (1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm) and axial inclination ($4^{\circ},\;8^{\circ},\;12^{\circ}$) of the upper first molar. After 10 metal dies were made for each group, the IPS Empress ceramic crowns were fabricated and were cemented with resin cement. The cemented crowns mounted on the testing jig were inclined 30 degrees and a universal testing machine was used to measure the fracture strength. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The fracture strength of the ceramic crown with 2.5mm depth and $8^{\circ}$ inclination was the highest (1393N). Crowns of 1.5mm depth and $4^{\circ}$ inclination had the lowest strength (1015N) 2. There were no significant differences of the fracture strength according to occlusal depth and axial inclination. 3. Most fracture lines began at the loading area and extended through proximal surface perpendicular to the margin, irrespective of occlusal depth. 4. There was positive correlation between the fracture strength and the fracture surface area of crowns.

This study was performed to compare the stress distribution pattern in the crestal cortical bone and cancellous bone using 3-dimensional finite element stress analysis when 2 different Young's modulus(high modulus, model 1; low modulus, model 2) of cancellous bone was assumed. For the analysis, a finite element model was designed to have two square-threaded implants fused together and located at first and second molar area. Stress distribution was observed when vertical load of 200N was applied at several points on the occlusal surfaces of the implants, including central fossa, points 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm and 3.5mm buccally away from central fossa. The results were as follows; 1. In both model, the maximum Von-Mises stress in the crestal cortical bone was greater when the load was applied at the central point, points 1.5mm and 2mm buccally away from central fossa than other cases. 2. In the cortical bone around first and second molar, model 2 showed greater Von-Mises stress than model 1. It is concluded that when the occlusal contact is afforded, the distribution of stress varies depending on the density of cancellous bone and the location of loading. More favorable stress distribution is expected when the contact load is applied within the diameter of fixtures.
Purpose : To review developmental salivary gland defect based on 12 reported cases and literature, and to guide radiographic diagnosis of this entity. Materials and Methods : The 12 cases of developmental salivary gland defect of Chosun University Dental Hospital in the last 4 years were analyzed and compared with previous reported cases. Result : 11 of the 12 cases were found in men, indicating a very strong male predilection. The peak age was in the 6th decade. These defects were situated just above or at the inferior border of mandible between the first molar and the mandibular angle, and always Inferior to the mandibular canal. Only one case was superimposed with the mandibular canal, 6 cases were superimposed with the inferior border of the mandible. Conclusion : Characteristically, these defects had a special radiographic features such as ovoid shaped well-defined radiolucency located just above or at the inferior border of the mandible between the first molar and the mandibular angle, and always inferior to the mandibular canal. The recognition of these radiographic features were diagnostically valuable.
Purpose : To evaluate and compare the efficacy of digital radiographic images in the detection of bone loss at the bifurcation area of the mandibular first molar with traditional film-based periapical radiographs, Materials and Methods : One dried human mandible with minimal periodontal bone loss around the first molar was selected and an artificial alveolar bone defect at the bifurcation area was serially prepared over 18 steps. Images were taken using a direct CCD-based system and with F-speed periapical films. The images were evaluated by seven interpreters (3 radiologists, 3 periodontologists, and 1 general dentist) using a 5-point confidence rating scale. Results : The readability of both periapical radiographs and digital image increased as the size of the artificial lesion and exposure time increased (p < 0.05). Periapical radiographs offered greater readability of smaller bone defects than digital images, and the coefficient of variation of mean score between periapical radiographs and digital images showed a significant difference. Conclusion : The experimental results indicate that a significant difference in the coefficient of variation of mean score exists between periapical radiographs and digital images, and that traditional film-based periapical images offer greater readability of smaller bone defects than digital images can presently offer.
Among developmental anomalies of tooth shape, fusion and gemination are comparatively common. Developed with different etiologies, both fusion and gemination show similar clinical features. Therefore, many clinicians have difficulty diagnosing those morpho-anatomic anomalies. The purpose of this study is to report malformed right maxillary first molar in a 20-year-old female. With the aid of computed tomography (CT), the tooth was diagnosed as fusion with supernumerary tooth and dental caries lesion was detected. After performing direct pulp capping, the tooth was permanently restored with microhybrid composite resin using direct method to alter union groove into smooth surface for improving oral hygiene management. Until 6 months of follow-up visits, patient's chief complaint was resolved and tooth is still vital. In conclusion, identifying exact anatomy, conservative treatment and improving oral hygiene are essential in managing unusual morphologic anomalies of tooth.

Purpose: Among the facilitation of tooth movement in adult orthodontic treatment methods, surgical approaches are gaining popularity but complications following mechanical bone reduction are a problem. In this study, tooth movement was observed after alveolar bone was chemically demineralized to verify whether tooth movement had been facilitated. Materials and Methods: Twelve rabbits were used. In the experimental group, the alveolar bone of the left first molar area was exposed and demineralized. Thirty seven percents phosphoric acid was applied for 5 minutes for demineralization. The opposite first molar area was used as control. Two teeth were pulled with 200 g force and 4 rabbits each were sacrificed at 3, 7, and 14 days after the force was applied. Histologic examination was done with hematoxylin and eosin and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining. Result: The histologic examination results revealed more bone resorption in the demineralized area. As time passed, the number of osteoclasts increased in the compressed area. The amount of tooth movement was larger in the experimental group compared to the control group but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The demineralization with etchant resulted in limited bone resorption, more tooth movement and less damage of the cementum after applied orthodontic force.
Purpose: Among the virtual teeth generated by Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (DCGAN), the optimal data was analyzed for the number of learning. Methods: We extracted 50 mandibular first molar occlusal surfaces and trained 4,000 epoch with DCGAN. The learning screen was saved every 50 times and evaluated on a Likert 5-point scale according to five classification criteria. Results were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and tukey HSD post hoc analysis (α = 0.05). Results: It was the highest with 83.90±6.32 in the number of group3 (2,050-3,000) learning and statistically significant in the group1 (50-1,000) and the group2 (1,050-2,000). Conclusion: Since there is a difference in the optimal virtual tooth generation according to the number of learning, it is necessary to analyze the learning frequency section in various ways.
