강우시 발생하는 고속도로 유출수의 초기우수 특성 및 기준 (Characteristics of First Flush in Highway Storm Runoff)

  • Vehicle emissions from highway landuse include different pollutants such as heavy metals, oil and grease and particulates from fuels, brake pad wear and tire wear. Since highways are impervious and have high pollutant mass emissions from vehicular activity, it is considered as stormwater intensive landuses. Therefore this research was performed to understand the magnitude of first flush and to suggest the criteria of first flush for storm runoff management in highways. The fractions of washed-off mass are very high in first 30% of runoff volume, which suggests a definition of first flush. The washed-off mass stabilizes after 30% of the runoff volume and it is apparent that treatment capacity in the early part of a storm is more valuable than treatment capacity in the later part of the storm. Using the criteria of "high" first flush and "medium" first flush, as 50% of the mass in the first 30% of the volume, and 30 to 50% in the first 30% volume, respectively, more than 30% of the storms showed high first flush. A "first flush friendly" best management practice(BMP), meaning a BMP that can treat a high percentage or all of the initial flow, would be advantageous up to 80% of the events.

포도재배지의 비점오염물질 유출특성 (Runoff Characteristics of NPS in Agricultural Area)

  • In this study, occurrence status of nonpoint pollutants and characteristics of discharge by each nonpoint pollutants were examined through monitoring on nonpoint pollutants caused when raining in vineyard belonging to the agricultural area of various land use patterns. Also, the first flush analysis limited to studies on the existing non-percolation area was applied to percolation area to ascertain availability and criteria of study. Various water quality and sluice of nonpoint pollutants were analyzed, based on which discharge of nonpoint pollutants in agricultural area was ascertained to be influenced greatly by artificial factors such as period, cultivation, management, etc. Meanwhile, the first flush phenomenon at agricultural area was ascertained to occur, and the first flush was quantified through calculation of the first flush ratio. If MFF30 is based, discharge load by each nonpoint pollutants caused when raining was investigated to include 40.8% on the basis of total discharge. In case of SS in pollutants showed the highest first flush phenomenon of 64.8%. Through such a result, calculation possibility of the initial rain criteria was ascertained, and it was determined that reliability-assured criteria were calculated through further monitoring.

동적 EMC를 이용한 고속도로 초기우수 처리 기준 산정 (Determination of First Flush Criteria in Highway Stormwater Runoff using Dynamic EMCs)

  • The Ministry of Environment in Korea has introduced Total Pollution Load Management System (TPLMS) in major 4 large rivers to protect the water quality from possible pollutants. In order to successfully achieve the TPLMS, the nonpoint source should be controled by applying the best management practices in highly polluted areas. Of the various nonpoint sources, the highways are stormwater intensive landuses because of its high imperviousness and high pollutant mass emissions. The EMC (Event Mean Concentration) is an important parameter to correctly determine the pollutant mass loadings from nonpoint sources. However, it has wide ranges because of various reasons such as first flush phenomenon, rainfall and watershed characteristics. Even though the EMC is closely related to the first flush phenomenon, the relationship have not proven until present. Therefore, in this paper, the dynamic EMC method will be introduced to clearly make the relationship between EMC and first flush phenomenon. Also by applying the dynamic EMC method to monitored data, we found that the highly concentrated stormwater runoff was washed off within 20~50 minutes storm duration. The first flush criteria for economical treatment was also determined to 5~10 mm (mean=7.4 mm) as a cumulative rainfall.

강우 및 지역특성별 초기우수월류에 의한 오염부하 기여도 평가 (The Estimation of Pollution Loads in First-flush Overflows with Various Rainfall and Regional Characteristics)

  • The purpose of this research was to find a proper disposal rainfall extent to improve water quality. SWMM was applied to select catchment area and tested first flush load and rainfall extent. BOD 40mg/L was selected to dispose the first flush and sewer overflow with the same as the criteria of Sewerage Act. Design rainfall, BOD load ratio of first flush sewer overflow, and the ratio of disposal flow were analyzed under various rainfall distribution. BOD load and design rainfall to treat overflow in situation of first flush extent with 4.3~17.4% were 56~87% and 3.8~6.8 mm/day, respectively. In urban area, first flush loads were not correspond to land activities, but tend to increase with increasing rainfall amount and drainage area. The more the distribution of rainfall is similar to Huff-frontal or central distribution of rainfall, the more increase the first flush loads.

국내 중소 도시지역 강우유출수의 유출특성 (Runoff Characteristics of Stormwater in Small City Urban Area)

  • 본 연구는 국내 중소 도시지역에서 강우 시 발생하는 강우유출수의 유출경향을 분석하고 초기강우기준을 산정하기 위하여 수행되었다. 연구지역은 국가산업단지가 소속되어 있는 구미시 원평동의 주거지역으로 선정 되었으며 모니터링 기간은 3개월에 걸쳐 시행되었다. 연구지역의 유역면적은 24.9 ha이고, 토지이용형태는 주거지역으로 대상유역의 80%가 불투수 면적(포장의 형태: 아스팔트)인 것으로 나타났다. 모니터링은 총 6회의 강우사상에 대하여 실시하였으며 모든 수질항목에 대해 EMC (Event Mean Concentration)와 SMC (Site Mean Concentration)를 산정하였다. 또한 강우지속시간에 따른 입경크기분포의 변화와 초기세척 현상을 관찰하였는데, 입경크기분포는 10%입경($D_{0.1}$), 50%입경($D_{0.5}$, 90%입경($D_{0.9}$이 각각 9.82 ${\mu}m$, 38.99 ${\mu}m$, 159.61 ${\mu}m$로 나타났고, 초기세척 현상은 용존성 물질보다 입자성 물질이 더 강하게 나타났다. $MFF_n$ (Mass first flush)을 이용하여 초기강우기준을 검토한 결과 초기우수유출수의 부피 30%에 오염물질부하량의 부피 44.4~58.5%를 포함하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. $MFF_n$과 입경크기분포는 자연형, 장치형 시설과 같은 다양한 비점오염저감시설의 설계 및 운전과 초기강우기준 결정을 위한 정보를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 도시화된 토지이용은 불투수율이 높고 강우시 다량의 비점오염물질이 유출되어 지표수 및 지하수에 영향을 끼친다. 이러한 포장지역의 비점오염물질로 인한 수질오염을 저감하기 위하여 환경부는 수질오염총량제도 및 개발사업에 대한 비점오염 저감시설 설치신고 제도를 도입하여 운영 중에 있다. 그러나 비점오염저감시설의 규모 및 저감기능 설계를 위해서는 유출특성 분석이 필요하나 현재 기초자료가 부족하여 원단위 산정 등의 애로점으로 남아있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 원단위 산정 및 저감시설의 규모산정에 필요한 강우유출수 특성과 EMC를 제시하고자 한다. 모니터링은 도로 및 주차장에서 3년간 총 30개의 강우사상에 대하여 수행되었다. 초기강우 유출현상은 강우 시작 후 30분 동안 매우 분명하게 나타났으며, 유출수의 농도에 영향을 미치는 인자는 강우량, 유역면적, 토지이용, 지리 및 지형적 특성으로 분석되었다. 본 연구결과는 향후 포장지역의 원단위 산정 및 저감시설 설계시 기초자료로써 활용가능할 것으로 판단된다.

철로 역사 건설에 따른 강우 유출수내 비점오염물질의 동적 EMCs 및 처리방안 연구 (Dynamic EMCs and Optimum Treatment Criteria for Stormwater Runoff of a Railway Station)

  • In order to successfully propel the stormwater management program, administration plan of stormwater management is enacted in Spring, 2005. Hereafter, in a newly developing area such as a railway station, the best management practices should be established to control the nonpoint pollutant. Construction of a railway station means the increasing of imperviousness rate and lots of nonpoint pollutant emissions during rainfall. Therefore this research was performed to determine the pollutant EMC and to suggest the possible best management practice for treating nonpoint pollutants from a railway station. The $95\%$ confidence intervals of pollutant EMC were ranged to 69.4-115.2mg/L for TSS, 132.7-190.4mg/L for COD, 5.4-15.1ug/L for Oil & Grease, 4.9-12.4mg/L for TKN and 568.4-620.1ug/L for TP. The first flush criteria was ranged to 5-10mm accumulated rainfall using dynamic EMCs, Also laboratory reactor testing was performed. It shows that Zeolite media is useful for removing the washed-off pollutants from a railway station, especially for metal ions.

주차장 및 교량지역의 강우유출수내 비점오염물질의 특성 비교 및 동적 EMCs (Characteristics of Washed-off Pollutants and Dynamic EMCs in a Parking Lot and a Bridge during Storms)

  • Since the water quality of drinking water sources has been recognized as a big issue, the ministry of Environment in Korea is designing the total maximum daily load (TMDL) program for 4 major large rivers. The TMDL program can be successfully performed as controling the nonpoint pollutants from watershed area near the river. Of the various landuses in nonpoint pollution, parking lots and bridges are stormwater intensive landuses because of high imperviousness and high pollutant mass emissions from vehicular activities. Vehicle emissions from those areas include different pollutants such as heavy metals, oil and grease and particulates from sources such as fuels, brake pad and tire wear, etc. Especially the pollutant washed-off from the landuses are directly affecting to the river water quality. Therefore this research was conducted to understand the magnitude and nature of the stormwater emissions with the goal of quantifying stormwater pollutant concentrations and mass emission rates of pollutants from parking lot and bridges in Korea. In Kongju city areas, two monitoring sites were equipped with an automatic rainfall gages and an automatic flow meter for accumulating the useful data such as rainfall, water quality and runoff flow. This manuscripts will show the concentration changes during storm duration and EMCs to characterize the concentration profiles in different land uses. Also the first flush criteria will be suggested using dynamic EMCs. The definition of dynamic EMC is a new approach explaining the relationship of EMC and first flush effect.

철로 역사에서 발생 가능한 비점오염물질의 특성 및 관리방안 (Characteristics and Control of Nonpoint Pollutants in Railway Station)

  • Nonpoint pollutants were monitored on railway station land use. Lots of pollutant mass were washed-off in a first hour. The 95$\%$ confidence interval of pollutant concentrations ranges from 61.6 to 115.4 mg/L for TSS(mean= 88.50 mg/L). 103.8$\∼$244.1 mg/L for COD(mean= 174 mg/L) and 7.68$\∼$17.32 mg/L for Oil & Grease(mean= 12.5 mg/L). The various metals were also washed-off during storm runoff from railway station. The ranges of 95$\%$ confidence intervals were 39.2$\∼$84.0 ug/L for total Cu(mean= 61.6 ug/L), 14.0 $\∼$ 25.8 ug/L for total Pb(mean= 19.9 ug/L) and 182.2 $\∼$ 376.1 ug/L for total Zn(mean= 279.2 ug/L). As a result of this research, we concluded that up to 50$\%$ of the total pollutant mass can be removed when first 30$\%$ of the total flow are treating, and it can be a first flush criteria for best management practices.
