The effect of extended lactation on parameters of Wood's model of lactation curve in dairy Simmental cows

  • Objective: This study was focused on the estimation of parameters of Wood's model and description of the lactation curve using the cows which were lactated over 24 months on the first lactation. Methods: The database included 1,333 pure-bred dairy Simmental primiparous cows which lactated for 24 months (732 days). The initial dataset entering the procedure of assessment of parameters of Wood's function included 35,826 milk yield records. Milk yield was recorded throughout lactation, with the earliest record taken on day 6 and the latest on day 1,348 of lactation. This dataset was used for the assessment of parameters a, b, c of Wood's model using the non-linear statistical procedure. These parameters were estimated for different length of lactation. The assessed parameters were used for calculation of some characteristics of lactation curves. Results: The lowest value of a parameter (15.2317) of Wood's model of lactation curve was found out in lactations up to 305 days long, contrary to b and c parameters which were highest in those lactations (0.1029 and 0.0015, respectively). The maximum value of a parameter (17.4329) was found out in lactations up to 640 days long, unlike b and c parameters which were minimal in those lactations (0.0603 and 0.0010, respectively). Conclusion: It can be concluded that the parameters of Wood's model and the shape of lactation curve are changing with the growing number of milk yield records. Also, the assessed parameters revealed a significant milk production potential after 305 days of lactation.

  • The first record of buckwheat in Korea was revealed from an old Korean book, “Hyangyakguguebbang(향락구급방)” written in the era of king ‘Gojong’ who governed the country from AD 1236 to 1251 in the Korea dynasty. Buckwheat in Korea has been known to be introduced from China in 5th - 6th century. One of the most famous buckwheat noodles, ‘Naengmyeon’ had been used popularly among the people in the Korea dynasty. It is true that buckwheat noodle had been cooked and sold in temples during the Korea dynasty, and was regarded it as one of the temple foods at that time.(중략)

산난계의 유전적 모수 추정과 조기선발효율에 관한 연구 (Study on the Estimation of Genetic Parameters and Selection Efficiency on Early Part-record for Improving Egg Production in Layer)

  • 산난종계의 주요 경제형질인 산난양의 개량은 단기검정에 의한 조기선발이 실용화되고 있는 바 산난수에 대하여 조기선발 하였을 경우 조기선발의 최적시기 및 조기선발에서 기대되는 상관적 선발효율을 알아본 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 2계통의 일반능력을 조사란 평균치는 초산일령에서 150.5 일과 159.1 일이었고 조기산란수는 W계통에서 후기산란수는 B계통에서 더 많이 산란하였고 총산란수는 두 계통 모두 272개로 비슷하게 산란하였다. 2. 초산일령과 산란수에 대한 유전력 및 표준오차 추정치는 두 계통에서 전자매분산성분으로 추정하였을 때 $0.37\pm0.09$~$0.49\pm0.10$$0.18\pm0.10$x~$0.33\pm0.08$로 추정되었다. 특히 산란수에 대한 추정치는 W계통은 모분산성분에 의한 추정치가, B계통에서는 부분산성분에 의한 추정치가 더 높았고 두 계통 모두 후기산란수에 대한 유전력보다 조기산란수에 대한 유전력이 더 높게 추정되었다. 3. 각 조사형질들 간의 유전상관 및 표준오차의 추정결과는 W와 B계통에서 전자매공분산성분에 의하여 추정하였을 때 조기산란수와의 유전상관에 있어서 후기산란수는 $0.46\pm0.15$$0.39\pm0.16$, 총산란수는 $0.77\pm0.07$$0.76\pm0.08$ 초산일령은 -$0.77\pm0.06$$-0.82\pm0.05$이었고 후기산란수와는 총산란수는 $0.92\pm0.03$$0.89\pm0.04$로 비교적 높게 추정되었으며 초산일영령 $-0.11\pm0.17$$-0.15\pm0.18$로 미약한 원의 상관을 보였다. 총산란수와 초산일령과의 유전상관은 W계통에서 $-0.41\pm0.13$과 B계통에서 -$0.50\pm$0.13으로 모두 원의 상관을 보여 산란수에 준한 선발은 초산일영을 단축시킨다는 것을 추측할 수 있다. 4. 선발효율의 추정결과는 초산 시부터 40주령까지의 산란수에 의하여 선발하는 것이 가장 효율적인 것으로 추정되었으나 (1.69와 1.80) 이 시기의 산란수에 의하여 선발하였을 경우 초산일령과의 견전상관을 고려할 때 초산일영을 크게 단축시킬 것으로 사료되며 또한 초산일령의 단축으로 인한 난중의 감소 및 자료수집에 필요한 경비 등을 고려할 때 31주령 이후, 특히 31주령부터 40주령까지의 산란기녹에 의하여 선발하는 것이 바람직 할 것으로 사료된다.

한국재래닭의 경제 형질에 대한 육종가 추정 (Estimation of Breeding Values for Economic Traits in Korean Native Chicken)

  • 본 연구는 축산연구소에서 1995년부터 2001년까지 7세대에 걸쳐 능력 검정된 11,583수에 대한 자료를 이용하여 한국 재래 닭에 대한 경제형질의 육종가를 추정한 바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 육종가의 추정치는 적갈색, 황갈색, 회갈색, 흑색 및 백색계통의 150일령 체중에서 각각 $-16.563\~-0.474,\;-14.714\~9.272,\;-25.186\~12.953,\;-15.549\~6.329$$-10.708\~20.284g$이었고, 270일령 체중에서 각각 $-18.836\~21.700,\;-23.025\~11.297,\;-28.368\~18.156,\;-18.264\~14.963$$-25.112\~10.132g$이었다. 산란능력의 육종가 추정치는 적갈색, 황갈색, 회갈색, 흑색 및 백색 계통의 시산일령에서 각각 $-1.236\~0.047,\;-1.509\~0.298, \;-1.362\~0.114,\;-1.435\~0.199$$-1.385\~0.718$ 일 이었고, 시산난중은 각각 $-0.105\~0.075,\;0.109\~0.042,\;-0.166\~0.084,\;-0.l19\~0.066$$-0.l12\~0.0279$ 이었고, 270일령 난중은 각각 $-0.120\~0.398,\; -0.205\~0.173,\;-0.256\~0.091,\;-0.051\~0.132$$-0.070\~0.101g$ 이었으며, 270일령 산란수는 각각 $0.298\~1.807,\;-0.049\~l.146,\;-0.396\~l.125,\;-1.205\~1.173$$-0.474\~2.641$개 이었다.

한국산 균식성 미기록종, 갈색가시거저리의 분류학적 검토와 숙주버섯 (First Record of the Fungivorous Tenebrionid, Bolitotrogus kurosonis Miyatake (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), from Korea with a New Host Fungus)

  • 버섯에서 서식하는 거저리류 가운데 갈색가시거저리(Bolitotrogus kurosonis Miyatake)를 국내에서 처음 보고한다. 갈색가시거저리는 균식성으로 활엽수림에 나는 민주름버섯류, 특히 시루뻔버섯속(Inonotus)의 황갈색시루뻔버섯[Inonotus mikadoi (Lloyd) Imaz.]에서 서식하는 것으로 관찰되었다. 본 종의 성충에 대한 기재문을 기술하였고, 본 종의 상위 분류군인 한국산 가시거저리족(Bolitophagini)에 대한 검색표를 작성하였다. 성충의 사진, 진단 형질과 숙주버섯에 대한 생태적 정보를 제공하였다.

신안새우난초(난초과): 한반도 미기록종 (First record of Calanthe aristulifera (Orchidaceae) in Korea)

  • 난대림 지역인 전라남도 신안군 흑산면에서 발견된 한반도 미기록 1종 신안새우난초(Calanthe aristulifera Rchb. f.)를 보고한다. 신안새우난초는 잎의 뒷면에 털이 있고 거가 있다는 점에서 이미 보고된 새우난초속(Calanthe)의 다른 종들과 쉽게 구별된다. 신안새우난초는 새우난속의 교배품종 개발에 매우 중요한 종이다.

산란계종의 잡잡강세리용에 관한 연구 (Study on Utilization of Heterosis in Layer Chicken)

  • This study was carried out to estimate combining abilitie or economic traits in layer chickens. The data used in this study were the record of 10 single crosses produced by half diallel cross of 5 lines of Single Comb White Leghorns, such as A, B, C, K and S lines. Total 720 progenies of the crosses were reared at the Poultry Breeding Farm, College of Agriculture, Seoul National University from Feb. 1979 to August, 1980. Combining abilities were estimated by Grilling's mathematical model for the traits; age the first egg, total egg number, egg weight and body weight. The results attained from the studies were summarized as follows; In estimate of combining ability, an age at first egg of BS cross was largely due to significiantly higher general combining ability (G. C. A.) effect of B and S strains than Cand K strains in G. C. A. effect, and to specific combining ability (S. C. A) effect of B and S-trains. AB and BS crosses showed the highest egg Production. AB cross performance was result from high G.C.A. effect of A ana B strains. BS cross performance was result from high G. C. A. effect of B and high S. C. A. effect of BS cross. Specific combining ability effect in egg. weight was not statiscally significiant, but S strain showed high G. C. A. effect. A and B strains in body weight showed significantly low C. C. A. effect. From the above results, BS cross in an age at first egg, AB and BS crosses in egg Production, S strain in egg weight and AB cross in body weight were superior to other strains or crosses.

파주시에서 수집한 폐사체 맹금류의 DNA 바코드 연구 (DNA barcoding of Raptor carcass collected in the Paju city, Korea)

  • 2011년 6월 28일에 파주시 조리읍 장곡리 인근 도로에서 두부쪽이 손상되고, 해당연도에 태어난 맹금류 어린새를 발견하였고, 이를 DNA 바코드 기법으로 동정하였다. Mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) cytochrome c oxidase I(COI) 유전자의 695bp 절편을 중합효소연쇄반응(polymerase chain reaction, PCR)으로 증폭하고 염기서열을 결정하였다. 결정된 염기서열을 BOLD systems과 NCBI의 BLAST에서 유사도 분석을 수행한 결과 총 5개체의 왕새매가 검색되었고, 염기서열의 동일성은 100%로 조사되었다. 또한, DNA 분자성판별 결과는 해당 개체가 암컷임을 나타내었다. 이러한 결과는 경기도 파주에서 1968년 이후 43년만에 왕새매의 번식이 확인된 중요한 정보로, 향후 광역야생동물구조센터는 야생동물의 사체 수거 시 인근 기탁등록보존기관과 연계하여 DNA시료를 확보하고 보다 정확한 종동정과 성판별 정보를 기록하는 등의 체계적인 관리시스템이 필요할 것으로 사료된다. 또한 이렇게 확보한 왕새매의 DNA 시료와 DNA 바코드 COI 유전자 서열은 유사종 연구의 참조표본(reference standard)로 이용될 수 있을 것이다.

A Genetic Analysis of Taoyuan Pig and Its Phylogenetic Relationship to Eurasian Pig Breeds

  • Taoyuan pig is a native Taiwan breed. According to the historical record, the breed was first introduced to Taiwan from Guangdong province, Southern China, around 1877. The breed played an important role in Taiwan's early swine industry. It was classified as an indigenous breed in 1986. After 1987, a conserved population of Taoyuan pig was collected and reared in isolation. In this study, mitochondrial DNA sequences and 18 microsatellite markers were used to investigate maternal lineage and genetic diversity within the Taoyuan pig population. Population differentiation among Taoyuan, Asian type, and European type pig breeds was also evaluated using differentiation indices. Only one D-loop haplotype of the Taoyuan pig was found. It clustered with Lower Changjiang River Basin and Central China Type pig breeds. Based on the polymorphism of microsatellite markers, a positive fixation index value ($F_{IS}$) indicates that the conserved Taoyuan population suffers from inbreeding. In addition, high $F_{ST}$ values (>0.2105) were obtained, revealing high differentiation among these breeds. Non-metric multi-dimensional scaling showed a clear geometric structure among 7 breeds. Together these results indicate that maternally Taoyuan pig originated in the Lower Changjiang River Basin and Central China; however, since being introduced to Taiwan differentiation has occurred. In addition, Taoyuan pig has lost genetic diversity in both its mitochondrial and nuclear genomes.

Buckwheat in Korea has been known to be introduced from China in 5th -6th century. One of the most famous buckwheat noodles, 'Naengmyeon' had been used popularly among the people in the Korea dynasty. It is true that buckwheat had been cooked and sold in temples during the Korea dynasty, and was regarded it as one of the temple foods at that time. Buckwheat has been cultivated as an alternative crop and buckwheat grains have been used as a hardy plant when the food situation for people was lacking in Korea. Buckwheat was an important crop in a slash-and-burn field(shifting cultivation) of the mountainous area in Kangwon province. A written history of the shifting cultivation in Korea was found in an old book "Taekriji" which was written by Lee, Jung-Hwan in the Chosun dynasty. The area and number of households of shifting cultivation in Korea was 40,000 ha and 135,000 household, respectively in 1973. Fifty to sixty kilogram of buckwheat grains per la was harvested at an altitude of 600 - 800m. Folk songs which have been sung among the people in shifting areas include buckwheat meal. One of the folk songs for buckwheat is as follows; "they do not eat rice with or without waxy property but eat buckwheat mixture." Since 1974, shifting cultivation has been legally prohibited to allow revegetation of destroyed mountains and rehabilitation of woodlands in Korea. Buckwheat has been traditionally marketed as noodle or flour for the manufacture of noodles, and also as groats for food in Korea. Consumption in markets has increased over the past several years. Buckwheat grains are mainly consumed in the form of noodles in Korea. However, many people have recently pursued a desire to make food products of high quality in processing buckwheat materials for health reasons.
