The Korean government has been trying to overcome these limitations using development of venture businesses and re-organization of industrial ecosystem. These efforts make high survival rate of recent venture companies. • In Korea MVNO was introduced in 2011 when twenty seven years had passed since Korea Mobile Telecom(now SK Telecom) started mobile phone service. MVNO can make competition more effective to lower communication costs through the alternatives. In the early 2000s, the need for the introduction of the MVNO has been raised already by scholars in Korea. But it wasn't until the late 2000s when rate cuts appeared to be a major policy issue, and Korean government introduced MVNO. In April 2015, MVNO's market share reached 8.8%, but Korea does not have a firm system yet. This rapid growth of MVNO market in Korea was made possible by consumers' demand for cheaper services and late introduction of MVNO. And telecom companies(MNO) abuse their supreme power against small and medium firm MVNOs and reserved market share using their subsidiary companies. Thus proper regulation is necessary. However, the government authorities should have recognized global MVNO flow quickly and have to make a sufficient effort to establish proper competition condition of the mobile telecom market.

  • This paper presents a knowledge-based view of platform-centered collaborations among multiple organizations. Studies of technological innovation and knowledge creation have broadened beyond their initial emphasis on internal development within an organization or simple exchange of ideas between two parties toward complex collaboration among many organizations at the level of platform-based knowledge ecosystems. Platforms serve as an interface between different groups of producers and consumers in a variety of multi-sided knowledge markets such as smartphone operating systems and video games industries. This study is an exploratory examination to offer theoretical understanding of how the organizational capabilities of platform leaders help expand a network of platform participants. The growth of platform participants is particularly important in the early stage of any platforms as the concept of network effects suggests that the platform with the largest number of participants will capture entire markets. Building upon organization studies and network economics theory on multisided markets, this paper focuses on the role of platform leaders in expanding platform-based collaboration. In our view, platform leaders develop varying levels of three organizational capabilities to discern quality of potential participants, to attract them to actually participate in collaboration, and to maintain long-term exchange relations in the ecosystem. We suggest that the capabilities of platform leaders will have a positive effect on the expansion of platform participants to secure network effects, and also examine several contextual factors that moderate the relationship between a platform leader's capacity and platform expansion.

  • Firms grow in a competitive environment and competition can be a source of corporate growth. In an increasingly global market, companies face increased competition. As such, it is natural that all firms face some degree of risk due to competition. While firms compete for market share, they also imitate competitors in order to minimize risk that accompanies competition. This research attempts to demonstrate the effects of inter-firm competition on investment decisions. Using idiosyncratic equity returns as the instrument variable, this paper uses a two-stage least squares regression, as well as an ordinary least squares (OLS), to identify the influence of peer firms' investment decisions on a firm's own investment strategy. The results confirm that firms show stronger imitative behavior with more intense competition. Also, firms with higher debt ratios show higher peer group influence. This imitative factor provides clues to measure the risk-averseness in investment decisions.

  • Recently, interest in research and development (R&D) investment decisions have increased among Korean domestic enterprises. However, existing R&D investment studies only focused on government R&D investment policies while only a few studies investigated firm level R&D investment. Prior literatures also overlooked the feedback loop between R&D investment and firm performance. Therefore, this paper identifies a system dynamics model for R&D investment decision making in domestic electronics firms. The conceptual model is derived from R&D investment-related theories found in bodies of literature on company performance, enterprise activity, and market maturity. This study investigates the dynamic feedback between R&D activities and sales using the system dynamics model. In other words, the system dynamics model is used to explain the change in the closed feedback circulation structure in R&D investment activities including technology development, production process, and marketing that subsequently result in sales increase and re-investment into R&D from the generated revenues. There are two major results. First, a similar ratio of investment on technology development and production process derives the higher company sales. Second, regardless of market maturity, marketing investment ratio positively affects sales and R&D budget growth. This study provides a system dynamics model to find the optimal ratio for R&D investment and suggests managerial strategic implications on electronic firm R&D investment decision making under market maturity condition.
