In vehicle exhaust systems the sound attenuation and the reduction of flow losses are often two competing demands. The present study considers a fully vehicle exhaust system and investigates experimentally both the sound attenuation and the flow performance of production configurations including the catalyst, the resonator, and the muffler. Dynamometer experiments have been This study is on the development of a new muffler composed of a valve system using an elasticity of spring. The valve system conducted with the daewoo 1500cc Lanos engine with speeds ranging from 1000 to 5000 rpm. Measurements include the flow rates, the temperatures and the absolute dynamic pressures of the hot exhaust gases at point locations. The present study describes the experimental aspects of an ongoing effort to validate and use the nonlinear fluid dynamic models in the time-domain for the prediction of the acoustic and power performance of firing internal combustion engines with full production exhaust systems.
The 42V Mild Hybrid System has been released into market by Toyota for the first time in the world in 2001. The set-up employs an inverter unit to control the motor/generator (MG) electronically. The driving system called such as Toyota Mild Hybrid System (TMHS) has additional new functions to conventional internal combustion engines. When stopping vehicle, the engine stops promptly. When starting vehicle, by releasing the brake pedal MG starts the vehicle at the same time (EV-driving mode). When stepping on the accelerator pedal, or after a given period of time the engine firing occurs and the engine-driving mode starts. When running by motor, the power is supplied to the motor from 36V battery through the inverter. High outputs and instant responses are required for Inverter. At the same time, the compact volume is required to fit into the limited space of the engine room. The compact size and high output are also required to Power Capacitor used for this inverter. The power capacitors has been newly developed, shaped in "flat" type, suitably for the inverter. The points of developments on inverter and power capacitor are described in this paper.his paper.

Accident statistics shows that the portion of fatal occupant injuries due to side impacts is considerably high. The side impact usually leads to a severe intrusion of side structure into the passenger compartment. Furthermore, the safety zone for the side impact is relatively small compared to the front impact. Those kinds of physics for side impact frequently result in a fatal injury for the occupant. Therefore, NHTSA and EEVC are trying to intensify the regulation for the occupant protection against side impact. Both the regulation and recent market trends are asking for an installation of side airbag. There are several types of system configuration for side impact sensing. In this paper, we adopt the acceleration-based remote sensing method for the side airbag control system. We mainly focus on the development of hardware and crash discrimination algorithm of remote sensing unit. The crash discrimination algorithm needs fast decision of airbag firing especially for high-speed side impact such as FMVSS 214 and EEVC tests. It is also required to distinguish between low-speed fire and no-fire events. The algorithm should have a sufficient safety margin against any misuse situation such as hammer blow, door slam, etc. This paper introduces several firing criteria such as acceleration. velocity and energy criteria that use physical value proportional to crash severity. We have made a simulation program by using Matlab/Simulink to implement the proposed algorithm. We have conducted an algorithm calibration by using real crash data for 2,500cc vehicle. The crash performance obtained by the simulation was verified through a pulse injection method. It turned out that the results satisfied the system requirements well.
Corticosterone is known to modulate GABAergic synaptic transmission in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus. However, the underlying receptor mechanisms are largely unknown. In the anterior hypothalamic area (AHA), the sympathoinhibitory center that project GABAergic neurons onto the PVN, we examined the expression of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) of GABAergic neurons using intact GAD65-eGFP transgenic mice, and the effects of corticosterone on the burst firing using adrenalectomized transgenic mice. GR or MR immunoreactivity was detected from the subpopulations of GABAergic neurons in the AHA. The AHA GABAergic neurons expressed mRNA of GR (42%), MR (38%) or both (8%). In addition, in brain slices incubated with corticosterone together with RU486 (MR-dominant group), the proportion of neurons showing a burst firing pattern was significantly higher than those in the slices incubated with vehicle, corticosterone, or corticosterone with spironolactone (GR-dominant group; 64 vs. 11~14%, p<0.01 by $x^2$-test). Taken together, the results show that the corticosteroid receptors are expressed on the GABAergic neurons in the AHA, and can mediate the corticosteroid-induced plasticity in the firing pattern of these neurons. This study newly provides the experimental evidence for the direct glucocorticoid modulation of GABAergic neurons in the AHA in the vicinity of the PVN.
The thrust axis alignment of the launch vehicle is very important because of the misalignment causes the unstable attitude control and results in mission failure. Generally, optical methods such as digital theodolite and laser tracker and mechanical method such as turn table method are used to thrust axis alignment. This article deals with the simple method of thrust axis alignment of Kick Motor.

Korea Aerospace Research Institute plan to develop propulsion system test facilities for combustor, engine system, propulsion systems of KSLV-II propulsion system in process of Korea Space Launch Vehicle project. By review for heavy test facilities specifications of foreign technically developed nations of the world, it will be referenced for test facility development plan of Korea Space Launch Vehicle project in the future.
The vehicle vibrations result from the exciting forces which are caused by air resistance, engine firing, tire mass unbalance and tire uniformity. Especially, the shake and shimmy phenomena in the steering system are closely related to the vehicle vibration, the tire unbalance, and the tire uniformity. This study presents the shimmy phenomena due to the tire mass unbalance and the tire uniformity in order to investigate their effects.

In the design of a combat vehicle, various performances such as firepower, mobility and survivability, etc., should be considered. Furthermore, since these performances relate to each other, design framework which can treat an integrated system should be employed to design the combat vehicle. In this paper, we use empirical interior ballistic and 3D combat vehicle analyses for predicting firepower and mobility performances which are developed in previous study (1) integrated performance modeling. In firepower performance, pitch and roll angle by sequential firing are considered. In mobility performance, vertical acceleration after passing through a bump is regarded. However, since there are many design variables such as mass of vehicle, mass of suspension, spring and damping coefficient of suspension and tire, geometric variables of vehicle, etc., for firepower and mobility performance, we utilize analysis of variance and quality function deployment to reduce the number of design variables. Finally, integrated design optimization is carried out for integrated performance such as firepower and mobility.

The fuel system of a vehicle is a very important compotent, as it provides the firing resources to the combustion chamber of the engine. However, improper operation of the system can generate bad condition or start-off during engine revolution. This study analyzed several examples of failure that had originated in the field. In the first example, the driver operated a vehicle containing both gasoline and LPG in the fuel tank, but the gasoline fuel remained unused for a few months. Therefore the fuel pump was clogged because of gasoline congelation. The second example, dealt with fuel leakage that occurred from the slightly torn O-ring connecting the fuel lines. The third example, pertained to engine damage and power-down owing to the usage of proor-quality fuel and ingredient. Therefore, it is necessary to take adequate measures to prevent the failure of the fuel system of vehicle.

Technology demonstration for the development of a 75-tonf liquid rocket engine(LRE) thrust chamber for a space launch vehicle has been started on the basis of the previously acquired 30-tonf LRE technologies. For this purpose, a technology demonstration plan was established upon considering the currently available firing test facility in Korea and performance evaluation firing tests were performed on technology demonstration model thrust chambers under a restricted test condition. This paper describes the plan and current status of technology demonstration for a 75-tonf LRE thrust chamber.
