A Study on Bending and Torsion Characteristics and Weight Optimization by Web Shape of Crankshaft for Diesel Engine (디젤 엔진의 Crankshaft Web 형상에 따른 굽힘 및 비틀림 특성과 중량 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, it is possible for small sized and high speed diesel engines by development of commonrail system. And in order to increase the engine performance, the cylinder firing pressure is a tendency which increases. On the other side, the weight of engine becomes lightly in spit of high performance diesel engine. Therefore, the weight optimization for engine components is very important point on the design process. Also, the weight optimization must necessarily be considered the robust design against a fatigue failure. This paper focuses on the weight optimization of crankshaft according to web shape at the light duty diesel engine, and torsion characteristics of crankshaft is considered with 1D and 3D analysis tools.

Some empirical equations were made as follows on condition with Jackleg Drill (Bit Gage ø 36mm) and within 30 meter distance between blasting site and structures.   • Experimental studies have been carried out to find out the characteristics of the heat transfer, combustion emission and noise in the boilers without any extra firing zone for complete combustion of fuel. For the experiments a burner of premixed type and some heat exchangers were designed and manufactured. Also test facilities including a data acquisition system and various measuring devices were set up in order to measure automatically the various temperatures and flow rates of water and combustion gas. Various experiments were performed to find out the heat transfer characteristics as well as combustion emission and noise. In general, the burner which has uniform holes in the burner nozzle plate generates big combustion noise . whistling. The noise reduction method is discussed in this study. Many experimental data such as noise level, the amount of pollutant emission and heat transfer rate for different combination of heat exchangers are given as comparison bases for numerical studies.

A Highly Stable Current-Controlled Power Supply (고안정 전류제어 전원장치)

  • A design of a highly stable current-controlled power supply combining the phase-controlled rectifier (PCR), passive filter and active filter is investigated. A digital phase-looked voltage control (PLVC) with a capability of compensating the thyristor firing angles under unvalanced power source is proposed` otherwise the PCR output voltage has low-order subharmonics whose suppression requires a bulky passive filter. The digital PLVC has a fast dynamic characteristics as an inner control loop of the PCR. To suppress further the output ripple, an active filter using a transformer is introduced and its design is described through the frequency domain analysis. An optimal integral, proportional and measurable variable feedback (IPM) controller is designed using the time-weighted performance index based on the time domain analysis. The design method based on the time-weighted performance index gives better response characteristics than that based on the conventional performance index. It is also shown via experimental results that the proposed scheme gives better response characteristics than that based on the conventional performance index. Preparation of Porous $Al_2O_3$-AIN-Mullite and $Al_2O_3$-AIN-SiC

  • Porous composite of $Al_2O_3$ and AIN based mullite and SiC can be prepared by alumium reaction synthesis and atmosphere controllied sintering in order to improve the durability of a gas filter body. The porous $Al_2O_3$-AIN-mullite, which has a strength of 168 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and porosity of 51.59%, could be obtained by stmospheric firing at $1600^{\circ}C$ and the porous $Al_2O_3$-AIN-SiC with a porosity of 33% and strength of 977 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, could also be prepared. The average pore size has been changed from 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in a reduction atmosphere and to 2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in an air atmosphere, respectively.

Photon-induced surface conductivity measurement of MgO in an AC PDP

  • In order to study the relationship between the discharge characteristics of an ac PDP and the surface conductivity of MgO thin film, the surface current across a ring shaped MgO film was measured by exposure to monochromatic vacuum ultraviolet from the synchrotron radiation source whose wavelength ranges from 60nm to 240nm $(5.5eV{\sim}25eV)$. The experimental results show that the surface current begins to increase rapidly at the photon energy of about 9 eV which might correspond to the valence band edge of MgO. The difference in the surface current level correlate well with the differences in the preparation method of MgO films and their respective discharge characteristics such as the firing, minimum sustain voltages, address voltage margin and address discharge delay time.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering ultrasonic nozzle, single-layer and multilayer ring-type piezoelectric actuators were manufactured using PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics, And then the electrical properties were investigated. A ring-type piezoelectric actuator was modeled by ATILA program using finite element method(FEM). The piezoelectric actuator dimension was $\Phi26.5$ (outer diameter), $\Phi12$ (inner diameter), 3.5 mm (thickness). By FEM analysis, resonant and anti-resonant frequencies were appeared as 56.7 kHz and 61.5 kHz. The displacement increased with the increases of the number of layer. Based on the result, ring-type multilayer piezoelectric actuators were manufactured at low co-firing temperature of $940^{\circ}C$. The resonant resistance decreased with the increases of the number of layer. And also, the capacitance increased with the increases of the number of layer. The mechanical quality factor (Qm) decreased with the increases of the number of layer.

  • In general, the voltage stability of induction generator is lower than synchronous generator. Induction generator has a number of advantages over the synchronous generator on the side of price and maintenance. So Induction generator has been applied to the small hydroelectric power of low output. Induction generator usually generates a high current during grid connection. The high current that occurs during grid connection can cause a voltage drop in the system. In order to increase the supply of the induction generator, it is necessary to propose a method of reducing high current. This paper proposes some method of the soft start to reduce voltage drop caused by the large starting current. soft-start method has high voltage drop effect than direct start method, control of firing angle can be increased the voltage drop effect.

  • In this study, the optimal dynamic isolation system for gas operated combat weapon has been investigated. For this purpose, firstly, the dynamic behavior of human induced by firing operations has been analyzed through a series of experimental works using the devised test setup. The characteristics of linear impulse has been compared under some conditions of support system. In order to design the optimal dynamic isolation system, parameter optimization process has been performed based on the simplified isolation system under constraints of moving displacement and transmitted force. Finally, the performance of the designed dynamic absorbing system has been evaluated by simulation.

  • This study deals with design and application of silencer to reduce the exhaust noise, especially at the low frequency range below 200 Hz which is main contribution for the bridge wing noise and the external noise of ships. The designed silencer is composed of side branch resonator, Helmholtz resonator and absorbing material. The resonating frequencies of resonators are set to be the firing order frequencies of the generator engine. Based on the on-board measurement result, it is verified that the designed silencer can effectively reduce the exhaust noise of generator engine.
