Modular construction is recognized as a construction method with various advantages, such as shortening the construction duration, achieving quality control through factory production, ease of maintenance, and reduced construction costs due to reduced weight of materials. However, despite efforts by the modular industry and government to activate modular construction, it has rarely been established in the domestic market. Currently, there are technical limitations to the modular construction fire resisting technology applied to general buildings. The lack of access to modular construction fire resistance regulation is considered a major factor. In this study, the current status and problems with modular construction fire resistance regulation, a significant hindrance factor, were considered to activate modular construction. This study is intended to present a direction for institutional improvement in modular construction fire resistance and a direction for research and development.
Gypsum-wood composites were made by introducing inorganic substances into wood using calcium chloride, first treating solution, and sodium sulfate, secondary treating solution, by double diffusion process under atmospheric pressure at room temperature. The process conducted as follows: water saturated specimens were soaked in calcium chloride solutions at several concentration. Then the specimens were soaked further in saturated sodium sulfate solution, and they were leached in flowing tap water for 24h. To attain sufficient weight percent gain (WPG) values, the suitable concentration of calcium chloride and soaking time in saturated sodium sulfate solution were 20% and 48h, respectively. Inorganic substances were produced mainly in the lumina of tracheides. It was made sure that these substances were dihydrate gypsum($CaSO_4$$2H_2O$) by X -ray microanalysis (SEM-EDX). The composites had good fire resistance due to low heat transfer rate of gypsum formed in wood. However, the composites had little decay resistances, because they showed high weight losses by test fungi attacks.
Inorganic chemical treated wood was prepared by impregnation of calcium or magnesium chloride ($CaCl_2$ or $MgCl_2$) solution and immersion in saturated solution of ammonium fluoride ($NH_4F$) as a reactant in order to make an introduction of a refractory fluorides with fungicidal and insecticidal effects in wood. The weight percent gains (WPGs) were increased with increase in concentration of calcium chloride or magnesium chloride solution, and were higher in treatment with calcium chloride than with magnesium chloride. Inorganic substances were produced mainly in the lumina of tracheides. These substances were proved to be the calcium fluoride or magnesium fluoride by the energy dispersive X-ray analyzer in conjunction with a scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDX). The treated wood showed good decay resistance because the weight losses were hardly occurred by the test fungi such as Tyromyces palustris and Trametes versicolor. The fire resistance effect was superior to the treated wood compared with that of the untreated wood.

Rigid urethane foam is widely applied because it is light and has superior insulation performance compared to insulation materials such as EPS or glass wool. However, it has the disadvantage of being vulnerable to fire. Therefore, in this study, before proceeding with the research to improve the fire resistance of the rigid polyurethane foam, we would like to investigate the change in density and thermal conductivity of the rigid polyurethane foam according to the change in the mixed weight of the main material and the curing agent. It was found that the density increased as the mixed weight increased. The thermal conductivity showed similar values overall. As for the density distribution, the central part was low and the outer part was high.

Recently, the structure system for apartment buildings in Korea has been changing from wall to post-beam structure. This study examines the fire resistance and sound insulation of light-weight dried wall, a component of post-beam structure. For the fire resistance and sound insulation in Korea, the Compartment wall of apartment house in the case of building regulation has regulations specify the detailed requirement of fire compartment walls in apartment, but do not specify that of interior walls. This study proposes the fire resisting rate of the interior wall into three grades in which the highest grade requires fire resistance of 30 minutes and also proposes the requirement of sound insulation performance into three grades in which the lowest grade requires 35dB.

With the development of cities, the density of the population is continuously increasing as buildings become larger and more high-rise, but since the Haeundae residential complex fire in Busan in 2010, there has been a growing need to meet the fire protection performance of buildings as large-scale fires continue to occur every year. On the other hand, fire doors, which are one of the fire protection performance of buildings, have been judged unqualified in 82% of cases when fire doors constructed on the actual site were inspected after completion. The reason for this is that paper honeycomb and glasswool, which are used as core materials for fire doors, absorb moisture, reducing thermal insulation performance, and sagging due to increased weight, leading to performance degradation due to warping in empty spaces. To overcome these problems, research is underway to apply lightweight aerated concrete, an inorganic material, as a core material. Therefore, in order to select a blowing agent that produces stable bubbles prior to the production of lightweight bubble concrete for application as a fire door inner core, this study examined the physical performance according to the type of blowing agent and dilution concentration, and the following conclusions were drawn. Compared to vegetable bubbles and independent bubbles, synthetic bubbles have 3~8% higher thermal conductivity than independent bubbles, but 3~6% lower slurry density than vegetable bubbles, and 2~13% higher compressive strength, which is thought to be an improvement of synthetic bubbles.
This experiment was carried out to evaluate the results of fire retardancy of sealer coated plywood by Building material combustibility tester and Inclined panel tester. At this study, weight loss percentage, flame exhausted time, burning point and smoke yield coefficient were examined. The findings of this study lead to conclusions as listed below. 1. It was obvious that weight loss percentage and flame exhausted time of Inclined panel tester had more remarkable tendency than those of Building material combustibility tester. 2. Burning point was determined by Inclined panel tester while smoke yield coefficient by Building material combustibility tester. 3. Weight loss percentage decreased remarkably with proportion to the increase of sealer coated amount during 5 minutes burning. 4. Flame exhausted time decreased with proportion to the increase of sealer coated amount during 3 minutes burning. 5. Burning point indicated increasing tendency with proportion to the increase of sealer coated amount. 6. Smoke yield coefficient of urea scaler showed definite inclination decreasing with the increase of sealer coated amount.
This study analyzed firefighter's actual wearing condition of turnout gear The results are as fellows: 1. When a firefighter is employed, Korea applies only the minimum of firefighters stature and weight but America applies both the minimum and the maximum. The choice of size is highly related with stature more than chest circumference. 2. The satisfaction degree of thermal barrier is very low, 3%. They used rubber gloves rather than heatproof gloves. This is more serious in small country like 'up', 'myun' than in cities. For laundering, they used sprinkling method with firefighting hose. Firefigthers hoped that their clothes could be classified tv the seasons and fire places. 3. frefighter had high unsatisfaction with the movement of hands and leges in the aspect of movement adjustability, air permeability, weight, body temperature regulation, and breathing in the hygenic aspect, fire resistance, thermal resistance property, water proof, chemical reactivity and electrical conductivity. Thev were also unsatisfied with water proof boots and gloves. They were generally satisfied with helmets but firefighters over 90kg of weight were rather unsatisfied. 4. The satisfaction degree for physical fitness was very low and the items with which they were not satisfied depend on physical features. 5. To develop turnout gear, they wanted changes in design, material and size. Reflection tape need to be replaced with high quality products and they wanted the use of velcro and zipper in fastening system.
This study was conducted to clarity the differences in density and body weight of rodents among unburned and two burned areas (silvicultured and natural restored areas) after forest fire from July to September 2004 in coniferous forest of Samcheok, Korea. The density of rodents was the least in the silvicultured area. There was no differences in density between the unburned and natural restored areas. Also, mean body weight of rodents in the natural restored area was higher than in the silvicultured area. Shrubs, seedlings, snags and CWD (coarse woody debris) would be good for inhabitation of the rodents in forest fired area. Therefore, coverage of understory layer should be maintained in forest fired area.
The $3{\times}3{\times}30$ ($cm^3$) sized lumbers of Populus alba-grandulosa L. were treated with four fire-retardant solutions of ammonium sulfate, monoammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate and aluminium chloride for 1, 15, 30, and 60 minutes and 1, 3, and 7 days. Thereafter they were air-dried and burned at high temperature about $1,800^{\circ}C$ and for short time of five minutes. This study estimated the relationship between absorbed chemical amounts and rate of weight loss or residual bending strength of these burned lumbers. The results were as follows: 1) In absorption amount of fire-retardant chemicals, diammonium phosphate showed the largest, aluminium chloride the smallest, but monoammonium phosphate and ammonium sulfate showed similar level. 2) The absorption amount of chemicals was decreased with the increase of specific gravity in the same species except aluminium chloride. 3) The rate of weight loss was decreased as the absorption amount of chemicals increased, especially monoammonium phosphate was most effective. 4) The MOR value of the residual bending strength was increased as the absorption amount of chemicals increased and especially monoammonium phosphate showed the most efficient effect. 5) Aluminium chloride showed more striking increase of MOR value of residual bending strength with the increase of absorption amount than any other chemical, therefore its MOR value was similar to the maximum MOR value of the most effective monoammonium phosphate. 6) The correlation between weight loss and MOR value of the residual bending strength was negative and aluminium chloride showed the most striking negative relation, but the others showed similar trends. 7) The correlation between work to proportional limit and absorption amount of chemicals was positive and the degree of increase in work to proportional limit was most in aluminium chloride, and the next, in monoammonium phosphate and diammonium phosphate in turn. 8) The correlation between work to maximum load and absorption amount of chemicals showed positive and diammonium phosphate revealed the best result and aluminium chloride showed better results than other two chemicals.
