  • The influence of elevated temperatures on the mechanical properties of concrete is important for fire-resistance studies and also for understanding the behavior of containment vessel, such as nuclear reactor pressure vessels, during service and ultimate condition. The present study is to clarify the damage/deterioration of concrete structures that are subjected to high temperature exposure. To this end, comprehensive experiments are conducted. The major test variables are the peak temperatures, rate of temperature increase, and sustained duration at peak temperature. The results include weight loss residual compressive strength and stress-strain curve. From those results, residua compressive strength formula and stress-strain relationship are proposed.

  • In order to avoid the electrical fire, AFCI(Arc Fault Cirruit Interrupter) has been obligated to be adopted in the United States of America since 2002. AFCI using line resistor of neutral trace needs to compensate the variation of the line resistance by temperature variation. In this paper, the ASIC including the temperature compensation circuit is implemented. The proposed implementation is verified by showing the effectiveness of an electric and a temperature characteristics for Arc signals by simulation results.

  • 3D printing technology can be applied to various industries, and is trapped by major technologies that change existing manufacturing processes. 3D printing materials must satisfy designability, economy and productivity, and building materials are required to have strength and economy secured technology. 3D printing technology of construction field can be divided into structural materials and internal and external materials, and is mainly done by extruding and adapting. Particularly when it is applied as an exterior materials, it is mainly applied to an unstructured exterior materials and high accuracy is required. The exterior materials can be used as a cement composite materials, it is suitable also for a lamination type, and the role of a cement base bonding material is important. In this research, we developed a cementitious base binder applicable as a 3D printing exterior materials, confirmed density and strength characteristics for application as an exterior materials, a flame retardancy test for improving the fire resistance of buildings and confirmed its possibility.

  • The space of leisure boats & yachts is formed by interior design elements and shapes are formed by combination of those elements. By means of configuration of the design elements, space is made in a ship and patterns in an inside space are made through production. These space can be categorized as (1) cabin(common cabin, staterooms, one-cabin), (2) salon, (3) galleys & dinette, (4) heads(showers, toilets, bidets, sinks), (5) cockpit, (6) wheelhouses, navigation stations, (7) fore peaks, (8) engine room, (9) deck etc. Interior materials are classified into (1) walls(bulkheads & lining wall), (2) floors(sole), (3) ceilings(overheads), (4) doors & windows, (5) furniture, (6) lightings and (7) Hardware & decoration in large, medium and small sizes, which constitute interior design elements of a leisure boat & yacht. The materials used in leisure boats & yachts have properties of lightweight, noise and vibration resistance, fire & flame retardant, stability, strengths, lifespan, appearance and special operation in construction.

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection devices of P-type embedded silicon-controlled rectifier (PESCR) structure were analyzed for high-voltage operating input/output (I/O) applications. Conventional PESCR standard device exhibits typical SCR characteristics with very low-snapback holding voltages, resulting in latch-up problems during normal operation. However, the modified device with the counter pocket source (CPS) surrounding N+ source region and partially formed P-well (PPW) structures proposed in this study could improve latch-up immunity by indicating high on-resistance and snapback holding voltage.

  • As a part of a series of study, this study reviewed the fire proof characteristics of high performance concrete RC column members using non-stripping form that accompanied metal lath lateral confinement to prevent spalling of high performance concrete which is increasingly used recently, and the results are as follows. Flow and air amount both satisfied target range, and compressive strength, over 80MPa at age 28 days, showed high strength range. As for spalling characteristics, in the case of plain in which no fiber is mixed, severe spalling occurred, and in the case of 0.05% nylon("NY" hereinafter)+polypropylene("PP" hereinafter) fiber mixture, only surface area experienced partial spalling. Regarding non-stripping form changes, both non-stripping 25-20 and non-stripping 50-20 experienced spalling at finish material area, and non-stripping 50-20 showed better spalling proof performance than non-stripping 25-20. In the case of non-stripping 50-40, spalling was prevented, and while mass reduction rate was less than 10%, its temperature hysteresis showed the most excellent fire proof performance with base metal surface area maximum temperature $376.1^{\circ}C$.

  • This study analyzed the structural and electrical characteristics of an iron fittings type Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST) damaged by the Primary Current Injection Test System (PCITS). CSST consists of cladding, tube, nuts, clamp ring, flare cap, socket, and ball valve. For an evaluation of the dielectric withstand voltage, the area between the live part and non-live part of the CCST shall withstand a voltage of 220 V AC for one minute. For an evaluation of the insulation performance by 500 V DC, it is required that the insulation exceed more than $1M{\Omega}$ before the temperature rise test, $0.3M{\Omega}$ after the test. Although the average resistance of the product was $11.5m{\Omega}$, that of the product damaged at a current of 130 A by the PCITS was $11.50m{\Omega}$. Furthermore, parts of the cladding were melted and black smoke appeared when a current of 130 A applied for 10 s. After 60 s, most parts were heated and turned red. At 120 s, the parts that turned red had widened. Although it did not form a normal distribution because the P value was 0.019 with a confidential interval of 95%, it revealed outstanding characteristics with an AD (Anderson-Darling) value of 0.896 and a standard deviation of 0.5573.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the structure and heat generation mechanism of low voltage switches used to turn on or off the power supply to an indoor lighting system and investigate how the fixtures and movable contacts of the switches are damaged depending on the types of energy sources in order to secure the judgment base for expected PL disputes. Based on the Korean Standard (KS) testing method for incombustibility, this study applied a general flame to the switch. In addition, current was supplied to the switch using the PCITS (Primary Current Injection Test System). The ambient temperature and humidity were maintained at $22{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ and 40~60% respectively while performing the test. It is thought that the switch generated heat due to a defective connection of the wire and clip, insulation deterioration and defective contact of the movable contact, etc. The surface of the switch damaged by the general flame was uniformly carbonized. When the flame source was removed, the fire on the switch was extinguished naturally. From the result obtained by disassembling the switch carbonized by the general flame, it could be seen that fixtures and movable contacts remained in comparatively good shape but the enclosure, clip support, movable contact, indicating lamp, etc. showed carbonization and discoloration. In the case of the switch damaged by overcurrent, the clip connecting the wires, clip support, etc. showed almost no trace of damage, but the fixtures, movable contact, indicating lamp, etc. were severely carbonized. That is, the sections with high contact resistance were intensively damaged and showed a damage pattern indicating that carbonization progressed from the inside to the outside. Therefore, it is possible to judge the initial energy source by analyzing the characteristics of the carbonization pattern and the metal fixtures of damaged switches.

  • The transient characteristics of the tri-axial High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) power cable are different from those of a conventional power cable depending on whether the cable is under a steady or transient state due to the quench. Verification using simulation tools is required to confirm both the characteristics of the cable and the effect of the cable when it is applied to a real utility. However, a component for the cable has not been provided in simulation tools; thus the RTDS-based model component of the tri-axial HTS power cable was developed, and a simulation was performed under the transient state. The considered properties of model component include resistance, reactance and temperature. Simulation results indicate the variation of HTS power cable condition. The results are used for the transient characteristic analysis and stability verification of the tri-axial HTS power cable. In the future, the RTDS-based model component of the cable will be used to implement the hardware-in-the-loop simulation with a protection device.
