  • Performance based fire engineering design is being adopted around the world as a rationed means of providing efficient and effective fire safety in Building. This development is being supported by the adoption of performance based codes which specify the objective and minimum performance requirements for fire safety traditional design for fire safety which is still practiced in many countries, relies on "prescriptive" codes which specify how a building is to be built, which no statement of objective and little or no opportunity to offer more rational alterative design. It is the aim of this study to investigate and analyze the research direction of structural fire resistance design of RC structures for recommendation of PBD in Korea.

  • Erwinia amylovora and Erwinia pyrifoliae cause fire blight and black-shoot blight, respectively, in apples and pears. E. pyrifoliae is less pathogenic and has a narrower host range than that of E. amylovora. Fire blight and black-shoot blight exhibit similar symptoms, making it difficult to distinguish one bacterial disease from the other. Molecular tools that differentiate fire blight from black-shoot blight could guide in the implementation of appropriate management strategies to control both diseases. In this study, a primer set was developed to detect and distinguish E. amylovora from E. pyrifoliae by conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The primers produced amplicons of different sizes that were specific to each bacterial species. PCR products from E. amylovora and E. pyrifoliae cells at concentrations of 104 cfu/ml and 107 cfu/ml, respectively, were amplified, which demonstrated sufficient primer detection sensitivity. This primer set provides a simple molecular tool to distinguish between two types of bacterial diseases with similar symptoms.

  • In Japan, there are over the 100's fires in the social welfare organs every years. People are interested in fire protection who live in an institution for the aged or weak person's places and worried about it. I surveyed the social welfare organs were safety from fire to firewarden who worked at an institution for the aged in Tokyo. In the paper, I asked how do you think about the fire safety problems and condition of the facilities. And base on firewarden's view, I reviewed(examined) the fire prevention measures, each facility's problems and how to improve the fire protection.

  • Jet fire, pool fire, and vapor cloud explosion are major accident scenarios in LPG filling station. The protection wall would mitigate radiation effect in a jet fire. In case of a pool fire, the protection wall would restrict expanding the pool area. The protection wall might both obstruct the dispersion of released vapor and protect blast overpressure in a vapor cloud explosion scenario. In this paper, An availability assessment method of the protection wall how much reduce damage to receptors is proposed. Additionally application cases are presented for the effectiveness of protection wall in the LPG filling station. The study shows that the protection wall can effectively reduce the death probabilities of receptors located behind the wall in cases of the jet fires and the vapor cloud explosions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present step-by-step countermeasures to prevent fires in sandwich panel warehouses and to enhance on-site fire response capabilities. Method: Interviews of firefighters related to fire sites, advice from fire experts, and experiments on protection performance were conducted to draw up measures for each element to strengthen on-site response capabilities. Result: The fire safety management checklist for warehouse fire safety managers and the installation standards for wall protection of sandwich panel warehouses are presented. In addition, Standard Operational Procedures(SOP) for fire application of sandwich panel warehouses were established for firefighters on-site. Conclusion: Through this study, step-by-step fire safety measures were established for preventing, protecting and suppressing fires in sandwich panel warehouses.

  • In this research, safety requirements for guard rail, buffer stop, car stop scotch block, protection device, fire protection facilities, safety siding, escape facilities and inundation protection facilities are studied to establish a standard. First, various kinds of guard rails and their construction methods are investigated. Researches on the level difference of main track and guard rail, joint, length, and fastening force of guard rail are done. Second, the classification of buffer stop and car stop scotch block and its characteristics are examined, and the impact force, speed limit and capacity of buffer stop are summarized. Details of protection device, fire protection facilities, safety siding, escape facilities and inundation protection facilities are also investigated. From this fundamental research results, basic data on the safety facilities of railroad system are established.
