  • The purpose of this study is a proposal about the flexibility of the performance category to revitalize the "Housing Performance Grading Indication System". This system consists of 5 main performance parts, 14 performance categories and 20 detailed performance lists. 5 main performance parts are Noise and Acoustics(Light-weight impact sound control, heavy-weight impact sound control, sound control of toilet, sound control of party wall), Long-life(flexibility, remodeling & maintenance, durability), Landscape & Indoor Environment(landscape, formaldehyde control& ventilation, daylighting, thermal environment), Welfare & Barrier-free(playground and community center, welfare space, barrier-free design), Fire Safety(fire safety, safe place, fire-resisting quality). The flexibility of the performance category is conformed to Long-life housing related grading and can realize the Long-life housing in response to resident needs about the space rearrangement. Now, The flexibility of the performance category is limited to the evaluation of the private space, that is, the Skeleton evaluation. This study would suggest alternatives to improve uppermost limits through analyzing 60 examples from January 9th 2009 to October 30th 2008. The flexibility of the performance category is possible to estimate not only the Skeleton evaluation but also the Infill evaluation in response to social changes.

  • The fire resistance performance of generic CFT columns has been verified through various tests and analyses and the columns are widely used for fire resistance designs abroad. In this study, 3 groups of specimens (Non-fire protection, reinforcement with steel fiber and fire resistance paint) are suggested in order to evaluate the fire resistance performance of interior anchor type concrete-filled steel tubular columns having efficient cross-sections through loaded heating tests. Axial deformation-time relationship and in-plane temperatures are compared to evaluate the fire resistance performance of the specimens associated with variables. Suggested from the fact that the interior anchors exposed to fire exert influence on fire resistance performance due to thermal expansion, the reinforcements using steel fiber and fire resistance paint are verified to mitigate contraction and improve fire resistance performance. The result obtained from the tests of interior anchor type concrete-filled tubular columns is expected to be used for effective fire resistance design in association with previously conducted studies.

  • Structural steel has been used as a primary materials to columns and beams since 1960's in Korea with an advantages of excellent of load-bearing capacity and design flexibility, and faster construction. However, if the steel columns made of structural steel exposed to fire the load-bearing capacity is going down steadily and finally reach to collapse. Therefore, building regulation requires fire resistance according to building occupation, scales. The fire resistance can be evaluated two categories. One is prescriptive method that is based on building regulation, specification and so on and the other is performance-based fire engineering method. The latter can be designed based on scientific and engineering consequences. The easiest evaluation way using the fire engineering design is comparing to the limiting temperature and maximum temperature calculated based on heat transfer theory. If the limiting temperature of a column exceeds the maximum temperature of it, the column can carry the load during the fire. Therefore, the database of limiting temperature is very essential for evaluation of column. In this paper, to build the database of column made of rectangular hollow sections 8 fire tests with loading were conducted and the relation between the limiting temperature and the applied loads showed in reverse proportion.

  • Generally, the reinforced concrete slab has great fire resistance performance because concrete has excellent thermal material properties under fire. But, in the case of hollow slab, it will be expected that hollow slabs have different temperature distribution and fire endurance performance compare to reinforced concrete slab. Because hollow slab has internal void space that occurs decreasing regenerative effect of concrete and formation of internal air layer. Evaluation method for fire resistance performance of hollow slabs was proposed using $wickstr{\ddot{o}}m^{\prime}s$ method. For the casual use of evaluation, simplified method was proposed which was limited to solid slab and donut type hollow slab which was developed by authors of this research paper. Also, verification on proposed method was performed by comparing results of fire experiment for hollow slab and evaluation results. Proposed method of the results of this study was possible to predict the residual strength and temperature distribution of slabs under fire.

  • In this study, the extinguishing performance evaluation of wetting agent for wood crib was conducted by using a scale model equipment that we designed. To confirm the optimal conditions of the experiment, a test was changed amount of fire extinguishing water and the number of timber. As a result, the discrimination of the fire extinguishing performance was seen only when 20 pieces of wood and the extinguishing water of 100 mL were used. After evaluating the extinguishing performance of domestic and foreign wetting extinguishing agents under these conditions, a reignition was occurred in only when we used water. In addition, the discrimination of extinguishing performance was seen through the temperature distribution according to the time of watering. Based on the results of this experiment, this study is expected to be able to use as a basis on presenting a method of optimized performance evaluation of wetting extinguishing agent.

  • A two-hour fire-resistance PC hollow slab for residential use was developed to secure structural and fire-resistance performance and to be applied to the general building and apartment housing markets. Compared to the existing hollow slab, in order to secure the same or better structural performance and economic feasibility by reducing the quantity, it was attempted to secure the fire resistance performance by reducing the concrete filling rate in the cross section and adjusting the thickness of the upper and lower flanges by optimizing the hollow shape in the cross section of the slab. For structural performance evaluation, experiments were performed on PC hollow slabs by varying the member thickness and the presence or absence of overlaid concrete, and all of the experimental results showed that the design strength was sufficiently exhibited and that stability during construction was possible. The developed synthetic PC hollow slab has secured fire resistance and residential performance so that it can be applied to all buildings, and it is intended to be immediately applied to the field.

  • To prevent energy waste in buildings used heat insulator. Heat insulator materials can be classified inorganic and organic. The organic material is due to toxic gas emission, when a fire occurs. And it has lower water resistance. The inorganic material is heavy and worse thermal performance than organic materials. Technologies on energy saving and materials used in curtain walls have progressed with increase of high-rise and large buildings. However, there is little study to explain fire resistance performance of the curtain walls. This study focused on evaluation of the physical properties of light-weight inorganic foam panel for using industrial by-products materials and performance evaluation by mock up test.

  • EPS sandwich panel contains flame retardants that slow down ignition during fires, reduce the amount of heat generated, and block the spread of combustion. However, if a sandwich panel does not satisfy standards for fire-retardant performance, it may increase damage to property and human life. It is difficult to test the fire-retardant performance of a finishing material with the naked eye, so it is necessary to develop convenient and fast evaluation methods that are convenient and fast. In this study, a fire safety evaluation method for EPS sandwich panel was analyzed using X-ray to detect specific components related to the fire-retardant performance X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) indicated that suitable panel products contained more aluminum in comparison to unsuitable products. Gibbsite was identified as the main crystalline material of flame retardant EPS through X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and was included in both suitable products and unsuitable products, but there was a difference in crystalline structure. This study was verifies the possibility of evaluating fire-retardant performance using ultimate analysis and crystal analysis through these X-ray methods.

  • This study aims to investigate, review, and summarize the definition, development, and applications of "percent agent in pipe", "percent of agent in pipe" which is used as a key factor in testing and evaluating the performance of gaseous fire extinguishing agents, including Halon 1301 and $CO_2$. This study also analyzes and compares the local and international standards on testing and evaluating the performance of gaseous fire extinguishing systems, as well as the results of system performance tests conducted as a part of performance evaluation and approval programs for gaseous fire extinguishing systems, especially, Korean Gaseous Fire Extinguishing System Performance Approval Program called KFI Approval. Percent agent in pipe was defined first in NFPA 12A, Standard on Halon 1301 Fire Extinguishing Systems, dating back to the 1970's. After the phaseout of Halon 1301 systems in 1994 in the developed countries, the percent agent in pipe has been widely used in Halon 1301 alternative clean agent fire extinguishing systems, both halocarbon clean agent systems and inert gas clean agent systems, as an essential criterion to assure the system design accuracy, determine the limitations and performance of a system, and to predict the system performance results accurately, especially, in association with their system flow calculations. Underwriters Laboratories has their own standards such as UL 2127 and 2166 applying percent agent in pipe in testing and evaluating the performance of clean agent fire extinguishing systems. As a part of a system performance test and approval program called KFI Approval System, Korea also has started to apply the percent agent in pipe as a key factor to test, evaluate, and approve the performance of gaseous fire extinguishing systems, including both high and low pressure $CO_2$ systems, from the early 2000's. This study outlines and summarizes the relevant UL and KFI standards and also describes the actual test resultant data, including the maximum percents of agent in pipe for gaseous fire extinguishing systems. As evidenced in lots of tests conducted as a part of the system performance test and approval programs like KFI Approval System, it has been proven that the percent agent in pipe may work as a key factor in testing, evaluating, and determining the limitations and performance of gaseous fire extinguishing systems, especially compared with the hydraulic flow calculations of computer design programs of gaseous fire extinguishing systems, and will remain as such in the future. As one thing to note, however, there are some difficulties in using the unified percent agent in pipe to determine the maximum lengths of pipe networks for gaseous fire extinguishing systems, because the varying definitions used by some of the flow calculations (not in accordance with NFPA 12A definition) make it impossible to do any direct comparison of pipe lengths based on percent agent in pipe.
