Thermal Impact Characteristics by Forest Fire on Porcelain Insulators for Transmission Lines

  • In this study the thermal impact characteristics by forest fire are extensively investigated using temperature controlled ovens. The test conditions for thermal impact damage are simulated according to the characteristics of natural forest fire. The test pieces are suspension porcelain insulators made by KRI in 2005 for transmission lines. In the thermal impact cycle tests with $300\;^{\circ}C$ thermal impact gradient (-70 to $230\;^{\circ}C$), cycling in 10 minute periods, no critical failures occurred in the test samples even with long cycle times. But in tests with thermal impact gradient from room temperature to $200-600\;^{\circ}C$, cycling in 10 to 30 minute periods, there were critical failures of the porcelain insulators according to the thermal impact gradient and quenching method. In the case of thermal impact by forest fire, it was found of that duration time is more important than the cycling time, and the initiation temperature of porcelain insulator failures is about $300\;^{\circ}C$, in the case of water quenching, many cracks and fracture of the porcelain occurred. It was found that the thermal impact failure is closely related to the displacement in the cement by thermal stress as confirmed by simulation. It was estimated that the initiation displacement by the thermal impact of $300\;^{\circ}C$ is about 0.1 %. Above 1% displacement, it is expected that the most porcelain insulators would fail.

  • The purpose of this paper is to conduct ETA on 15 components of power installations: the DS/LBS, LA, MOF, CT, PT, A/V meter, VCB, OCR, COS, PF, Transformer, Condenser(C), Grounding, Cable and Connector. To achieve that, power installations work flow and its components are categorized. Based on performance, human, environmental, management, and safety, this paper drew Initiation events (IE) and End states (ES). ETA is applied to the main functions of each component, and the end states that may occur in one initiation event are suggested. In addition, detailed classification was performed to induce various end states on the basis of the suggested initiation events. If the suggested IEs and ESs are applied on the basis of power installations event cases, it is expected to prevent the same kinds of accident and operate power installations safely.

  • The Swedish Fire Research Board was established in 1979 to initiate and fund relevant fire research efforts. The Board is responsible for a long term research programme revised every third year, and the Board is one of two major Swedish sponsors of all fire research. Beside the Board we also have the Swedish National Rescue Services, funded by the government. BRANDFORSK gives very high priority for the industry and the insurance company and the need they express for fire research. Research that the Rescue Services Board are funding is mainly focusing the need for the fire department. The Swedish Fire Research Board, BRANDFORSK, is the joint agency of the Swedish government, the insurance industry and the business sector, for the initiation, funding and supervision of different kinds of fire research. Work is directed by a Programme Board and is performed in the form of projects at universities, research institutes, state authorities and private firms. The Secretariat of BRANDFORSK shares the premises of the Swedish Fire Protection Association, SFPA, and the SFPA is the principal and the party which enters into agreement with the State. The programme for the period 1997-1999 has been drawn up on the basis of both damage development and the trends in society which can be noted, and the evident fire problems of the interested parties and their need for fire research. The inputs in the programme have been broken down seven problem areas. In every problem area different project areas are set out, and these primarily specify the aim of the work.   • 공판중심주의 강화와 법률시장 개방 등 사법제도의 변화로 인해 화재현장의 해석은 과학적인 증거를 통해 철저한 실체적 진실의 구현을 지향하고 있다. 화재에 대한 실체적 진실 규명의 근거가 되는 물적 증거물에 대한 적정한 수집이 선행되지 않으면 법정에서 증거능력 부정 또는 증명력이 배척되어 조사결과에 대한 신뢰도는 추락하게 된다. 엄정하게 관리된 현장에서 물리적, 화학적으로 변형 우려가 높은 화재 증거물의 특성상 최대한 원형을 보존하도록 채취되어야 하고 채취부터 분석 감정에 이르는 모든 과정이 사진 및 기록으로 유지되어야 하며 이런 과정들에 대한 세부적인 매뉴얼 또는 지침이 규정화 될 필요가 있다. 이런 절차들이 정립되고 조사 기관간 협업 관계가 구축된다면 신뢰도 높은 화재감식 체계가 될 것이다.

북한이탈주민들의 병증발생시기 인식에 대한 질적 연구 (A Qualitative Research on the Cognition of the Initiation of Diseases of North Korean Refugees in South Korea)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to understand the cognition of the initiation of diseases of North Korean refugees in South Korea. Methods: 9 North Korean refugees hospitalized in Oriental Neuropsychiatry of National Medical Center participated in the interview. The statements were analyzed by using the phenomenological research methodology and Giorgi's analytical method, in particular, was applied. Results: A total of 4 categories and 15 sub categories were derived from the participants' descriptions. North Korean refugees who thought their diseases have begun while living in North Korea coming to South Korea, have fire disease because of the strict social system, limitations imposed on their actions, and the violence of their husbands. And who thought during escaping from North Korea, have anxiety about being killed, found and transferred to North Korea. They also suffered from a sense of guilt towards their family who were left behind as well as from depression. Consequently, they thought their skeletal diseases have begun during this period. Who thought during their period in Korea, their diseases like fire disease and depression have been worsen because of unfamiliar circumstances and doctors who said their problems had been caused by psychiatric disorder. Nevertheless, they did their jobs, felt happy and had a will to be cured thingking possibilities of overcoming diseases. Conclusions: These results suggest that various factors during different periods in the life of North Korean refugees could have an effect on their present diseases.

화재에 의한 터널구조물 시공재료의 손상 평가 (Evaluation of Fire-induced Damage to Structural Members in Tunnels)

  • 본 연구에서는 화재시나리오에 따른 터널구조물의 시공재료별 단면손실과 폭렬현상을 파악하고자 터널구조물 시공재료별로 시험체를 제작한 후 모의 화재시험을 수행하였다. 시공재료별로 화재시험을 수행한 결과, 모든 시공재료에서 RABT 화재곡선보다 RWS 화재곡선에서 단면손실이 다소 크게 발생하였다. 특히, RWS 화재곡선에서 나타나는 $1,200^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온으로 인한 융해는 시공재료의 단면손실에 주요한 영향요인으로 작용하였다. 철근 보강 구조물은 무근 구조물에 비해 단면손실이 적은 것으로 나타났다. 숏크리트의 경우 화재 시나리오에 따른 단면손실의 차이가 가장 크게 발생하였다. 가열시험 도중에 가열면을 실시간 관찰한 결과, RABT에서의 재료 손상은 폭렬과 탈락에 의해 발생한 반면 RWS에서는 초기에는 RABT와 유사하나 가열개시후 약 50분 이후의 재료 손상은 폭렬과 탈락이 아닌 융해에 의한 것을 알 수 있었다.

Vulnerability of Pinus densiflora to forest fire based on ignition characteristics

  • In Korea, man-caused forest fires are known originate primarily in coniferous forests. We have hypothesized that the vulnerability of Pinus densiflora forests is principally a consequence of the ignition characteristics of the species. To assess this hypothesis, we conducted two combustion experiments using fallen leaves with a reference species, Quercus variabilis. In the first experiments, in which a cigarette was employed as a primary heat source for the initiation of a forest fire, the Pinus leaves caught fire significantly faster (1'1" at Pinus, 1'31" at Quercus, P < 0.001), and ignition proceeded normally. Quercus leaves, on the other hand, caught fire but did not ignite successfully. In the second set of experiments utilizing different moisture contents and fuel loads, the maximum flame temperature of the Pinus leaves was significantly higher ($421^{\circ}C$ at Pinus, $361^{\circ}C$ at Quercus, P < 0.001) and the combustion persisted for longer than in the Quercus leaves (8'8" at Pinus, 3'38" at Quercus, P < 0.001). The moisture contents of the leaves appeared to be a more important factor in the maximum temperature achieved, whereas the most important factor in burning time was the amount of fuel. Overall, these results support the assumption that Pinus leaves can be ignited even by low-heat sources such as cigarettes. Additionally, once ignited, Pinus leaves burn at a relatively high flame temperature and burn for a prolonged period, thus raising the possibility of frequent fire occurrences and spread into crown fires in forests of P. densiflora.

요소제거모델을 활용한 열전달해석에서 터널 화재이력곡선의 초기가열구배에 따른 대류열전달계수의 변화 (Variation of time-dependent convection beat transfer coefficients in beat transfer analysis at various initial beating rates of tunnel fire scenarios)

  • 본 연구에서는 화재에 의한 콘크리트의 단면손실과 역학적 특성을 저하하는 주요 요인 가운데 온도증가율, 즉 초기가열구배를 변화시키면서 모의화재실험을 수행하였다. 그리고 수행된 모의화재실험에서 관찰된 단면손실을 모사하기 위하여 요소제거모델을 활용한 유한요소해석법에 의해 열전달해석을 수행하였다. 이때 모의화재실험결과와 수치해석결과가 가장 일치하는 대류열전달계수를 반복적인 해석과정을 통해 도출하였다 이상의 과정으로부터 얻어진 초기가열구배에 따른 대류열전달계수의 변화를 조사한 결과, 각 초기가열구배별 대류열전달계수의 변화는 분수함수 형태로 근사시킬 수 있었다. 최종적으로 모의화재실험으로부터 도출된 초기가열구배별 대류열전달계수의 변화 결과를 내삽하여 다양한 초기가열구배에 따른 화재경과시간별 대류열전달계수의 변화를 추정할 수 있는 수식을 함께 제시하였다.

점화에너지 변화에 따른 쌀겨분진의 폭발 거동에 관한 연구 (Study on Explosion Behavior of Air-born Rice Bran Dusts according to Ignition Energy)

  • 쌀겨분진의 연소 및 전기적 점화에너지에 의한 폭발 위험성을 조사하기 위하여 시차주사열량계(DSC, Differential Scanning Calorimeter) 및 열중량 분석기(TGA, Thermogravimetric Analysis)와 순간승압조정기를 이용하여 온도 및 전기 스파크에 따른 발열개시온도, 발열량 등을 조사하였으며, 또한 Hartman 식 측정장치를 이용하여 쌀겨분진의 폭발 위험성을 측정하고자 하였다. DSC 분석 결과 대기 분위기에서 발열량이 증가하였으며 또한 승온속도가 증가하고 입도가 미세해질수록 발열량이 증가하였고, TGA 분석 결과 입도가 미세해질수록 분해량이 증가하였다. 한편 쌀겨분진의 폭발 위험성은 입도가 감소하고 농도가 증가할수록 또한 전기적 점화에너지가 클수록 폭발압력이 증가하였으며, 전기 점화원에 인가된 전압변화에 따른 폭발압력의 변화를 조사하였고, 50/60 mesh, 1.5mg/㎤에서 약 13.5kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$의 최대 폭발압력을 나타내었다.

Effect of Earthquake characteristics on seismic progressive collapse potential in steel moment resisting frame

  • According to the definition, progressive collapse could occur due to the initial partial failure of the structural members which by spreading to the adjacent members, could result in partial or overall collapse of the structure. Up to now, most researchers have investigated the progressive collapse due to explosion, fire or impact loads. But new research has shown that the seismic load could also be a factor for initiation of the progressive collapse. In this research, the progressive collapse capacity for the 5 and 15-story steel special moment resisting frames using push-down nonlinear static analysis, and nonlinear dynamic analysis under the gravity loads specified in the GSA Guidelines, were studied. After identifying the critical members, in order to investigate the seismic progressive collapse, the 5-story steel special moment resisting frame was analyzed by the nonlinear time history analysis under the effect of earthquakes with different characteristics. In order to account for the initial damage, one of the critical columns was weakened at the initiation of the earthquake or its Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA). The results of progressive collapse analyses showed that the potential of progressive collapse is considerably dependent upon location of the removed column and the number of stories, also the results of seismic progressive collapse showed that the dynamic response of column removal under the seismic load is completely dependent on earthquake characteristics like Arias intensity, PGA and earthquake frequency contents.
