In a fire hazard analysis (FHA) for nuclear power plant, various electrical circuit analyses are performed in the parts of fire loading analysis, fire modeling analysis, separation criteria analysis, associated circuit analysis, and multiple spurious operation analysis. Thus, electrical circuit analyses are very important areas so that reliability of the analysis results should be assured. This study is to establish essential electrical elements for each analysis for verification of the reliability of the electrical circuit analyses in the fire hazard analysis for nuclear power plants. Applying the results derived by the study to domestic nuclear power plants, it is expected to determine the adequacy of the fire hazard analysis report and contribute to the reliability of the fire hazard analysis of those plants.
As building becomes larger, taller and more complex due to industrialization and urbanization, it tends to be vulnerable to fire and establishment of effective measures for fire safety is demanded. Especially the fact that the smoke hinders evacuation and fire-fighting activities as well as becomes the major cause of life casualty emphasizes the importance of smoke control system. To design and operate the smoke control system success folly, it is necessary to analyze and predict precisely the thermoflow induced by fire in building. The unsteady three-dimensional analysis of thermoflow induced by fire with diverse variables such as building structure, fire conditions and smoke control facilities can be effectively carried out with numerical method In this study, using the FDS(Fire Dynamics Simulation) program that spreads widely as the analysis tool for thermoflow of fire, the analysis of thermoflow in partition of building induced by fire and comparison with the experimental results for assessment of numerical analysis are presented.
For the past decade, South Korea had experienced catastrophic building fires, which resulted in consider-ably high number of casualties. This motivated research to develop fire-safe wall assemblies. In this study Fire Risk Analysis (FRA) is conducted as part of the project designing phase to ensure fire safety of the final product. Traditional approach was to consider fire performance at the end of the designing stage, when PASS/FAIL fire test results are required to be submitted to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). By applying a fire risk analysis to guide the designing phase, overall fire safety of a wall assembly can be achieved more systematically as conducting FRA allows designers to clearly identify elements that are more vulnerable to fire and simply replace them with other practical options. Severity of fire risk is determined by considering the fire hazards of a wall assembly such as the exterior layer, insulation, vertical connectivity, and external ignition sources (e.g., photovoltaic panels). Frequency of fire risk is assessed based on the factors affecting fire likelihood, which are air cavity and fire-stopping applied in the design, and random design changes occurring during on-site construction. Fire risk matrix is proposed based on these fire risk factors and efforts to reduce the fire risk level associated with the wall assembly are given by systematically assessing the fire risk factors identified from fire risk analysis. Current study demonstrates how fire risk analysis can be applied to develop fire-safe walls by reducing the relevant fire risks- both severity and frequency.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the fire resistance performance applied to plant facilities with high fire risk in Korea, secure suitable fire resistance performance, and ensure the fire safety of plant facilities. Method: Using the finite element analysis program Ansys, thermal transfer analysis and structural analysis were performed with fire load and fireproof coating as variables, and the fire resistance performance of plant facilities was analyzed based on the analysis results. Result: The fireproof coating applied to domestic plant facilities failed to secure fire resistance performance when the fire load of hydrocarbon fire presented in UL 1709 was applied, and it was confirmed that the deformation of steel after the fire was also significant. Conclusion: The current fire resistance performance applied to plant facilities in Korea cannot secure fire resistance performance in sudden fire growth and large fire loads like petrochemical plants, and it is necessary to secure fire safety by evaluating suitable fire resistance performance through performance evaluation of plant facilities.

Electric fire breaks out by various causes such as electric short, overload(over current), leakage current, poor contact, static electricity, insulation deterioration, partial disconnection and etc. In this paper, we studied analysis technique for scientific and systematic judgment for distinction of electricity fire existence and nonexistence, and described about electricity fire cause analysis process for collecting physical evidences. We handled external form analysis, Substance extension analysis, X-ray transmission analysis, cross-section analysis, thermal analysis, chemical structure analysis, surface structure analysis, component analysis, electrical properties analysis, and circuit analysis by analysis technique for electricity fire cause judgment. We expect that analysis technic elevation and correct cause of fire analysis of scene of a fire investigators and analysts through this paper which see help.
Coupled thermo-mechanical analysis of reinforced concrete slab at elevated temperatures from a fire accounting for nonlinear thermal parameters is carried out. The main focus of the paper is put on a one-way continuous reinforced concrete slab exposed to fire from the single (bottom) side as the most typical working condition under fire loading. Although contemporary techniques alongside the fire protection measures are in constant development, in most cases it is not possible to avoid the material deterioration particularly nearby the exposed surface from a fire. Thereby the structural fire resistance of reinforced concrete slabs is mostly influenced by a relative distance between reinforcement and the exposed surface. A parametric study with variable concrete cover ranging from 15 mm to 35 mm is performed. As the first part of a one-way coupled thermo-mechanical analysis, transient nonlinear heat transfer analysis is performed by applying the net heat flux on the exposed surface. The solution of proposed heat analysis is obtained at certain time steps of interest by α-method using the explicit Euler time-integration scheme. Spatial discretization is done by the finite element method using a 1D 2-noded truss element with the temperature nodal values as unknowns. The obtained results in terms of temperature field inside the element are compared with available numerical and experimental results. A high level of agreement can be observed, implying the proposed model capable of describing the temperature field during a fire. Accompanying thermal analysis, mechanical analysis is performed in two ways. Firstly, using the guidelines given in Eurocode 2 - Part 1-2 resulting in the fire resistance rating for the aforementioned concrete cover values. The second way is a fully numerical coupled analysis carried out in general-purpose finite element software DIANA FEA. Both approaches indicate structural fire behavior similar to those observed in large-scale fire tests.
The purpose of this paper is to develop a fire HRA (Human Reliability Analysis) procedure for full power operation of domestic NPPs (Nuclear Power Plants). For the development of fire HRA procedure, the recent research results of NUREG-1921 in an effort to meet the requirements of the ASME/ANS PRA Standard were reviewed. The K-HRA method, a standard method for HRA of a domestic level 1 PSA (Probabilistic Safety Assessment) and fire related procedures in domestic NPPs were reviewed. Based on the review, a procedure for the fire HRA required for a domestic fire PSA based on the K-HRA method was developed. To this end, HRA issues such as new operator actions required in the event of a fire and complexity of fire situations were considered. Based on the four kinds of HFE (Human Failure Event) developed for a fire HRA in this research, a qualitative analysis such as feasibility evaluation was suggested. And also a quantitative analysis process which consists of screening analysis and detailed analysis was proposed. For the qualitative analysis, a screening analysis by NUREG-1921 was used. In this research, the screening criteria for the screening analysis was modified to reduce vague description and to reflect recent experimental results. For a detailed analysis, the K-HRA method and scoping analysis by NUREG-1921 were adopted. To apply K-HRA to fire HRA for quantification, efforts to modify PSFs (Performance Shaping Factors) of K-HRA to reflect fire situation and effects were made. For example, an absence of STA (Shift Technical Advisor) to command a fire brigade at a fire area is considered and the absence time should be reflected for a HEP (Human Error Probability) quantification. Based on the fire HRA procedure developed in this paper, a case study for HEP quantification such as a screening analysis and detailed analysis with the modified K-HRA was performed. It is expected that the HRA procedure suggested in this paper will be utilized for fire PSA for domestic NPPs as it is the first attempt to establish an HRA process considering fire effects.
The primary goal of this study is to analyze fire hazards of electric home appliances such as electric iron and electric heater using fault tree analysis(FTA). A fault tree(FT) is constructed and used to analyze fire hazards in electric home appliances. The fault tree is built from events that may occur in electric home appliances. The failure rate of basic events are derived from the value of experimental results and reference. And an algorithm analyzing fire in electric home appliances is suggested. We show how fault tree analysis, carried out by means of failure rate, is able to diagnose fire hazards of electric home appliances in a precise manner. We present numerical results such as fire probability of electric home appliances, importance measure, fire cause, etc. It can be helpful in preventing the fire hazards in electric home appliances.
Fire incident in buildings is common, so the fire safety design of the framed structure is imperative, especially for the unprotected or partly protected bare steel frames. However, software for structural fire analysis is not widely available. As a result, the performance-based structural fire design is urged on the basis of using user-friendly and conventional nonlinear computer analysis programs so that engineers do not need to acquire new structural analysis software for structural fire analysis and design. The tool is desired to have the capacity of simulating the different fire scenarios and associated detrimental effects efficiently, which includes second-order P-D and P-d effects and material yielding. Also the nonlinear behaviour of large-scale structure becomes complicated when under fire, and thus its simulation relies on an efficient and effective numerical analysis to cope with intricate nonlinear effects due to fire. To this end, the present fire study utilizes a second-order elastic/plastic analysis software NIDA to predict structural behaviour of bare steel framed structures at elevated temperatures. This fire study considers thermal expansion and material degradation due to heating. Degradation of material strength with increasing temperature is included by a set of temperature-stress-strain curves according to BS5950 Part 8 mainly, which implicitly allows for creep deformation. This finite element stiffness formulation of beam-column elements is derived from the fifth-order PEP element which facilitates the computer modeling by one member per element. The Newton-Raphson method is used in the nonlinear solution procedure in order to trace the nonlinear equilibrium path at specified elevated temperatures. Several numerical and experimental verifications of framed structures are presented and compared against solutions in literature. The proposed method permits engineers to adopt the performance-based structural fire analysis and design using typical second-order nonlinear structural analysis software.

In this study, experiment and numerical analysis were conducted to identify the heat transfer characteristics and behavior of high-strength concrete upon a fire. The numerical analysis was employed to forecast the characteristics and properties of the high-strength concrete upon a fire, which can not be accomplished through a fire test due to the specific conditions and restrictions associated with the test. The result of the numerical analysis was compared with that of the test to verify the reliability of the analysis. In the numerical analysis of the heat transfer characteristics and behavior of 80 and 100 MPa high-strength concrete upon a fire, the commercial software of ABAQUS(V.6.8) was used. It was observed from the experiment that the contraction of the concrete with fiber-cocktail was mitigated by 25~55 % compared with that without fiber-cocktail because the fiber controlled the heat transfer of the concrete and thus improved the fire-resistance performance of the column.
