  • The purpose of this study is developing the computer program for hydraulic design sprinkler systems have performed the means for the general use of network analysis method. The computer program is based on the theoretical concepts of the related Hazen-Williams equations, a modified Bernoulli equations, and the Hardy Cross method of pipe network analysis. Looped piping calculations are solved by using either the Hardy Cross method or the other iteration methods. While the other methods are solved using simultaneous equations, the Hardy Cross method is concerned with one loop at a time using reiterative process. Due to its simplicity the Hardy Cross method will be the primary method described in this thesis. The purpose of this study is to develope hydraulic calculation program by using algorithm for network analysis method. The development of computer program for the hydraulic design of sprinkler systems will perform the means in the performance-based sprinkler system design.

  • This research analyzes Clean Room accidents, and presents research Clean Room, major fire prevention standards of Clean Room (FM, IRI, and NFPA Code), various results from Fire Simulation of analysis. The results are : the smoke diffusion is very quick coupled with the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems under fire ; the possibility of getting the result and the possibility the role of the Sprinkler systems to reduce the diffusion of the smoke. We learn about the importance to stop operating Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and to operate the Sprinkler system for securing safety with fire detection. Therefore, This research will be contributing to secure safety of Clean Room.

  • This study evaluated the fire safety code elements through analyze the loss of life when the fire occurred in the facility sprinklers installed evaluated. And through comparison with national fire safety code elements and standards of NFPA 13 in the United States, Was looking for ways to improve for Life and property damage. In the United States, in some cases, if you do not install the sprinkler are installed as per the fire death rate compared to 83 % lower. By contrast, If the domestic rate of 280 % fatalities were 3.37 times than the United States. This lack of fire performance were analyzed uniform occupancy classification, the amount of source of water supply, live not consider the density according to the standard number and the horizontal distance that causes the installation of sprinkler facilities were analyzed.

  • There are three kinds of design method of the fire sprinkler systems. Grid type is connected all branch as a trapezoid. Loop type is connected cross-mains like circle. The last one is a tree type most commonly used. Grid type needs computer program to calculate the friction loss and flow rate apart from very simple form. In loop type, manual calculation is possible. Design engineer can draw up and calculate the demands without computer program. Because water supplies two direction in loop type, friction loss is smaller than tree type. Water distribution in operation area is uniform because of the small differences of sprinklers discharge pressure. Loop type is superior to tree type in respect of total pressure and flow rate. Using the small diameter pipe, the labor and construction cost will be decreased in the end. Loop type sprinkler design is rarely laid out because design engineers don't know the method. This paper is intended to inform that the loop type is better than the tree type in performance and economic point of view. And also this paper intend to use the loop type easily and widely.

  • A glass bulb is the most reliable and simplest device for a fire sprinkler head system. We had developed an accurate glass bulb. The glass bulb is composed with a glass ampoule, liquid filled within the ampoule and an air bubble in the liquid. The first step of the development was to establish a stable mass production system for uniform glass ampoule. The second step is to optimize the composition of the liquid and the size of the bubble. It was also a difficult problem to devise manufacturing process to form uniform bubble size. The final step for the development is to control the mechanics for glass breaking by surface treatment for the glass bulb.

  • There are two kinds of method on hydraulic calculation of fire sprinkler system design. The one is using the computational program and the other is designer calculate system for oneself. In case of using the computational program, putting the input data in, the program calculate the friction loss, water flow, total height and so forth. If program user or designer doesn't know the basic idea and procedure of hydraulic calculation. Then, the outputs are different from each other. This paper suggests the hydraulic calculation procedure in design area as follow. Equivalent lengths of tees on the branch are selected base on the same pipe diameter which the tees are established, although the diameter of tee outlet is different. Even though there is a different friction loss of head from the other head, the pressure from the hydraulic end is bigger than a head loss, discharge flow is calculated by pressure from the hydraulic end.

  • Although the subject of sprinkler installations in Korean regulations is less strict than in other advanced countries, many building owners and managers tend to install sprinklers only in the types of buildings designated by law or create building designs for which sprinkler installation standards are not applied. This is because priority is given to cutting installation expenses rather than providing building fire safety. In this study, the benefit is estimated for various expenses from installation and maintenance of sprinklers as an investment. As a result of comparing sprinkler system installation expense and the financial benefit by efficiency analysis, the payback period is 1/20 of the building life expectancy and its efficiency is twice the expense. Therefore, installation of sprinklers by regulation has financial efficiency and it is desirable to broadly encourage the installation of sprinklers.
