The number of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles have increased gradually by virtue of korea government's urban air quality improvement policy since 1998. Although the use of CNG as transportation fuel gives environmental benefits, there is a possibility of huge accidents from unexpected fire. Therefore, needs for the guarantee of safety are indispensible for the reliable operation of CNG vehicles. A check valve is a safety device which prevents leakage of the pressurized fuel charged in a fuel tank. Durability of this component should be guaranteed in spite of repeated operation. This research has performed durability tests of a CNG check valve regarding the repeated usage, extreme chattering, and the effect of compressor oil.Although a check valve used for CNG vehicle satisfies validation requirements in the test results, it has been found that problem in the function of leakage prevention in a check valve could take place in the case of prolonged exposure to compressor oil.

In this study, a 3-D flame cooling analysis is conducted to examine thermal safety for the flame deflector of the 75 tonf class propulsion test facility, and the safe discharge of the exhaust gas is assessed by using numerical results. The Mixture multiphase model is adopted for the simulation of heat transfer and phase exchange process between flame and cooling water, and the computational study using the single species unreacted model for the exhaust plume is carried out for the flame cooling. Numerical analysis predicts maximum temperature on the flame deflector wall for different water flow rates, and evaluates the safe minimum flow rate of water corresponding to the fire-resistant temperature for concrete.
Experiments on combustion gases generation of untreated cypress specimens or treated with boric acid, ammonium pentaborate, and boric acid/ammonium pentaborate additive were carried out. Test specimens were painted three times with 15 wt% boron compound aqueous solutions. After drying, the generation of combustion gas was analyzed using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). As a result, comparing to untreated specimen, the smoke performance index (SPI) of the specimens treated with the boron compound increased by 1.37 to 2.68 times and the smoke growth index (SGI) decreased by 29.4 to 52.9%. The smoke intensity (SI) of the specimens treated with boron compounds is expected to be 1.16 to 3.92 times lower than that of untreated specimens, resulting in lower smoke and fire hazards. Also, the maximum carbon monoxide ($CO_{peak}$) concentration of specimens treated with boron compounds was 12.7 to 30.9% lower than that of untreated specimens. However, it was measured to produce fatal toxicities from 1.52 to 1.92 times higher than that of permissible exposure limits (PEL) by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The boron compounds played a role in reducing carbon monoxide, but it did not meet the expectation of reduction effect because of the high concentration of carbon monoxide in cypress itself.
Many of plastic powders handled in industry are combustible and have the hazard of dust fire and explosion accidents. However poor information about the safe handling has been presented in the production works. The aim of this research is investigated experimentally on explosive characteristics of various plastic powders used in industry and to provide additional data with safety informations. The explosibility parameters investigated using standard dust explosibility test equipment of Siwek 20-L explosion chamber. As the results, the dust explosion index ($K_{st}$) of ABS ($209.8{\mu}m$), PE ($81.8{\mu}m$), PBT ($21.3{\mu}m$), MBS ($26.7{\mu}m$) and PMMA ($14.3{\mu}m$) are 62.4, 59.4, 70.3, 303 and 203.6[$bar{\cdot}m/s$], respectively. And flame propagation velocity during plastic dust explosions for prediction of explosive damage was estimated using a flame propagation model based on the time to peak pressure and flame arrival time in dust explosion pressure assuming the constant burning velocity.
The purpose of this study was to examine the household characteristics, the actual residential environment of the elderly living with their offsprings together in Gwangju. We also evaluated their satisfaction with the needs for remodeling of their houses and the different opinions about those things between the elderly and their off springs. We used comparative and descriptive T-test in statistical analysis. The results were as follows. There were more families living in the detached houses than those living in the apartments. The average size of the houses was 100.8 square meters. The mean residence period was 13.5 years. The sons were usually the legal householders. The residents who experienced remodeling before reassigned the furniture and installed the bathtub, which was designed to be sat on comfortably in a common. A few residents installed safety system such as alarms for incident fire or gas, convenient knobs for handling and faucets for running hot or cold water separately. After the installation of alarms, convenient knobs of windows or door, Customer satisfaction for those things were quite high. But that for the installation of safety bar were the lowest in contrast. The most things the old wanted to change were to rearrange bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor and to decorate them in westernized styles. They didn't need to set up safety bars or shower instrument for modulating heights. The second generation wanted to install the blinds or curtains more than the third generations.

Since the unprecedented hydrogen fluoride leak accident in 2012, there has been growing demand for customized technical information for rapid response and chemical accident management agencies including the Ministry of Environment, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the National Police Agency need more information on chemicals and accident management. In this regard, this study aims to provide reliable technical data and guidelines to initial response agencies, similar to accident management technical reports of the US and Canada. In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey and interviews on initial response agencies like fire stations, police stations, and local governments to identify new information items for appropriate initial response and improvements of current guidelines. We also collected and reviewed the Canada's TIPS, US EPA's hydrogen fluoride documents, domestic and foreign literature on applicability tests of control chemicals, and interview data, and then produced items to be listed in the technical guidelines. In addition, to establish database of on-site technical information, we carried out applicability tests for accident control data including ① emergency shut down devide, safety guard, shut down valve, ground connection, dyke, transfer pipe, scrubber, and sensor; ② literature and field survey on distribution type and transportation/storage characteristics (container identification, valve, ground connection, etc.); ③ classification and identification of storage/transportation facilities and emergency management methodslike leak prevention, chemicals control, and cutoff or bypass of rain drainage; ④ domestic/foreign analysis methods and environmental standards including portable detection methods, test standards, and exposure limits; and ⑤ comparison/evaluation of neutralization efficiency of control chemicals on toxic substances.

The application of an adhesive calcium carbonate-based hybrid insulation board with quasi-combustibility in the external thermal insulation composite system(ETICS) ensures effective thermal performance and fire safety. This study aimed to conduct a mechanical test of the quasi-non-combustible hybrid insulation board as well as its constituent materials to obtain the basic data for the structural design of the adhesive ETICS. Test specimens were fabricated based on domestic and foreign test standards to examine and evaluate their tensile, compressive, flexural, and shear strengths. The strength characteristics of the quasi-non-combustible hybrid insulation board were identified from the test results, which verified that the minimum required physical properties suggested by the current KS M ISO 4898 were met. Furthermore, the quasi-non-combustible ETICS used in this study was found to be suitable for use as an external insulation system for walls unless subjected to continuous gravity load, such as a heavy exterior finish.
In this study, the combustion characteristics of Hinoki Cypress Louver were measured after performing pressure impregnation with aqueous solution of boric acid, borax, and ammonium phosphate. The characteristics measured include ignition time, critical heat flux, and mass loss rate by incident hear flux (25, 30 and $50kW/m^2$). The samples used for the test were $100{\times}100{\times}10mm$, and the 5 min variation for each incident heat flux was measured 3 times. The results show that the ignition time for incident heat flux of $25kW/m^2$ showed a delay effect of 17.4 to 21.3% except for Type C-H. There was no significant difference at 35 and $50kW/m^2$ in the average mass loss rate in Types A-H and D-H, which had lower rates than Type N-H, which was predicted to be higher than that of Type N-H ($10.7kW/m^2$) by 38.22 to 60.46%. It is thus expected that at the time of initial primary fire, there would be a delay effect against fire spread.

In the past five years, form construction, which accounts for approximately 25% of the total construction period, has continued to occur without a significant decrease in the number of deaths, with the largest proportion of collapse accidents. Accordingly, this study analyzed the difference in perception between the manager and worker by a questionnaire survey on the degree of risk and safety management level regarding a mold collapse accident. The survey was conducted in three groups: safety manager, field worker, and field manager. The results of the survey were analyzed by an independent sample T-Test using the SPSS program. As a result, there was almost no difference in recognition between managers, but a significant difference in recognition between managers and workers. In addition, there was a difference in management perception between the administrator and worker, which clearly shows the difference in the position between the administrator who manages and supervises hazardous disaster factors and the worker who works directly in the field. Such differences in perception can be a factor that cannot be mitigated. Based on this study, more developed research can narrow the perception gap between managers and workers and be used as a basic material for disaster research.

To protect combustion chamber from high temperature combustion gas, regenerative cooling is used for most liquid rocket engine. Although regenerative cooling is the most effective way to protect the chamber from high heat flux, realization of this system requires detail analysis, manufacturing technique and high cost. To demonstrate the possibility of applying regenerative cooling to a real rocket engine, the hot fire test has been carried out for the sub-scale liquid rocket with the water cooling system. The main purpose of the test is to identify the problem area of design, safety and cost effective manufacturing technique. The coolant passage was 3 mm in width and wall thickness was 1 mm with stainless steel. Maximum combustion time and pressure were 60 seconds and 400 psi, respectively. The flow rate of coolant was reduced gradually from 2 kg/s to 0.12 kg/s throughout firing test, combustion chamber was visually examined and no dwfect was observed.
