This paper presents a beam finite element model of a vibrate wind blade in large elastic deformation subjected to the aerodynamic, centrifugal, gyroscopic and gravity loads. The gyroscopic loads applied to the blade are induced by her simultaneous vibration and rotation. The proposed beam finite element model is based on a simplex interpolation method and it is mainly intended to the numerical analysis of wind blades vibration in large elastic deformation. For this purpose, the theory of the sheared beams and the finite element method are combined to develop the algebraic equations system governing the three-dimensional motion of blade vibration. The applicability of the theoretical approach is elucidated through an original case study. Also, the static deformation of the used wind blade is assessed by appropriate software using a solid finite element model in order to show the effectiveness of the obtained results. To simulate the nonlinear dynamic response of wind blade, the predictor-corrector Newmark scheme is applied and the stability of numerical process is approved during a large time of blade functioning. Finally, the influence of the modified geometrical stiffness on the amplitudes and frequencies of the wind blade vibration induced by the sinusoidal excitation of gravity is analyzed.
A new finite element model for the hydrostatic extrusion of a biaxial bar is introduced. In this model, a penalty contact algorithm, which is adopted to replace the traction boundary conditions due to the fluid in the container of the extruder, is incorporated into a consistent penalty finite element formulation for the viscoplastic deformation of a work piece during hydrostatic extrusion. Two parameters, introduced in the penalty contact algorithm in this study, a critical penalty contact pressure $P_0$ and a critical penalty contact distance $D_c$, are carefully examined for various process conditions. The proposed finite element model is applied to the hydrostatic extrusion of a Cu-clad Al bar. The extrusion loads and thickness ratios of the clad materials by the proposed model are compared in detail to values from experiments reported in the literature. Finally, it is concluded that the proposed finite element model is useful in practical implementations.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare stress distributions of implant-supported crown placed in fibula bone model with those in intact mandible model using three-dimensional finite element analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two three-dimensional finite element models were created to analyze biomechanical behaviors of implant-supported crowns placed in intact mandible and fibula model. The finite element models were generated from patient's computed tomography data. The model for grafted fibula was composed of fibula block, dental implant system, and implant-supported crown. In the mandible model, same components with identical geometries with the fibula model were used except that the mandible replaced the fibula. Vertical and oblique loadings were applied on the crowns. The highest von Mises stresses were investigated and stress distributions of the two models were analyzed. RESULTS. Overall stress distributions in the two models were similar. The highest von Mises stress values were higher in the mandible model than in the fibula model. In the individual prosthodontic components there was no prominent difference between models. The stress concentrations occurred in cortical bones in both models and the effect of bicortical anchorage could be found in the fibula model. CONCLUSION. Using finite element analysis it was shown that the implant-supported crown placed in free fibula graft might function successfully in terms of biomechanical behavior.
A precise fit of the implant prosthesis is one of the most important factors in preventing mechanical complications. To analyze the degree of the misfit of implant prosthesis, a modal testing experiment was accomplished. And. to interpret the modal testing analysis mathematically, three-dimensional finite element models were established. In the experimental modal testing analysis, with a laser displacement meter, FFT analyzer, impact hammer, etc., natural frequencies of the models with various degree of prosthesis fit were determined after the frequency response function were calculated. In the finite element analysis, the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the models which simulated those of experimental modal testing were computed. The results were as follows: 1. Natural frequencies of the prosthesis-abutment were related to the contact state between components. 2. In the modal testing experiment, the natural frequencies increased from $50{\mu}m$ to $200{\mu}m$ gap and reached a plateau. 3. In the finite element analysis, the natural frequencies decreased gradually according to the in crease of the gap size. 4. In the finite element analysis, the mode shapes of model 1 with misfitting prosthesis showed different patterns from those without misfitting prosthesis. 5. The devices including a laser displacement meter used in this study were useful for measuring the natural frequencies of an implant prosthesis which had various degrees of fit.

Three-dimensional rigid-plastic finite element formulation based on the membrane theory was described and a computer program for large deformation analysis was developed. In the formulation, normal and planar anisotropy of sheet material and rotation of the principal axes of anisotropy was taken into consideration. Sheet metal was assumed to be rigid-plastic material obeying Hill's quadratic yield criterion and its associated flow rule. Deep drawing process, as a preliminary test, for normal anisotropic material was analyzed in order to examine the validity of developed finite element program. The results were consistent with the existing finite element solutions or experimental data. The present study was mainly concerned with the influence of planar anisotropy on deformation behaviour. Finite element analysis and experiment were carried out for the whole process of deep drawing of planar anisotropic material. The computational and experimental results on the shape of ear, strain distribution and punch load were in good agreement.

A numerical skill for effective treatment of inclined boundaries in a finite element method is introduced. A finite element method has been frequently used to simulate hydraulic phenomena in a coastal zone since it can be applied to irregular and complex geometry. In case elliptic partial equations are governing equations for a finite element model, however, there is a difficulty in treating boundary conditions properly for cases in which boundaries are vertically inclined. In this study, a method to treat such inclined boundaries using Bessel functions for a finite element method is introduced and compared with analytical solutions.
In recent years, CFRP material usage in strengthening applications gradually became widespread. Especially, the studies on the strengthening of shear deficient reinforced concrete beams with CFRP strips are chosen as a subject to numerous experimental studies and research on this subject are increased rapidly. The most important variable, that is affected on the failure mode of CFRP strips and that is needed for determining the shear capacity of the strengthened reinforced concrete beams, is the strain distribution between CFRP strips and concrete. Numerous experimental studies are encountered in the literature about the determination of strain distribution between CFRP strips and concrete. However, these studies mainly focused on the CFRP strips under axial tension. There are very limited numbers of experimental and analytic studies examining the strain distribution between concrete and CFRP strips, which are under combined stresses due to the effects of shear force and bending moment. For this reason, existing experimental study in the literature is used as model for ANSYS finite element software. Nonlinear finite element analysis of RC beams strengthened against shear with CFRP strips under reverse cyclic loading is performed. The strain distributions between CFRP strips and concrete that is obtained from finite element analysis are compared with the results of experimental measurements. It is seen that the experimental results are consisted with the results derived from the finite element analysis and important findings on the strain distribution profile are reached by obtaining strain values of many points using finite element method.
Mechanical structures are composed of substructures connected by joints and boundary elements. While the finite element representation of plain substructures is well developed and reliable, joints have a lot of uncertainties in being accurately modelled and affect dynamic behavior of a total system. In order to improve the accuracy of a finite element model, a new method is proposed, in which reduced finite element model is combined with a system identification technique. After substructures except joints are modelled with finite element method and joint properties are represented by parameter states, non-linear state equation is derived in which parameter states are multiplied by physical states such as displacements and velocities. So the joint parameter identification is transformed into non-linear state estimation problem. The methods are tested and discussed numerically and the feasibility for physical application has been demonstrated through two example structures.

The size of hydrogen molecule is not so small as to invade into the lattice of material, and therefore, hydrogen invades into the material as atom. Hydrogen movement is done by diffusion or dislocation movement in the near crack tip or plastic deformation. Hydrogen appeared to have many effects on the mechanical properties of the Cr-Mo steel alloys. The materials for this study are 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and 2.25Cr-1Mo steels used at high temperature and pressure. The hydrogen amount obtained by theoretical calculation was almost same with the result solved by finite element analysis. The distribution of hydrogen concentration and average concentration was calculated for a flat specimen. Also, finite element analysis was employed to simulate the redistribution of hydrogen due to stress gradient. The calculation of hydrogen concentration diffused into the material by finite element method will provide the basis for the prediction of delayed fracture of notched specimen. The distribution of hydrogen concentration invaded into the smooth and notched specimen was obtained by finite element analysis. The hydrogen amount is much in smooth specimen and tends to concentrate in the vicinity of surface. Hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of notched specimen after hydrogen charging is more remarkable than that of smooth specimen.

The paper presents preliminary investigation results for the effect of the baseline correction in the acceleration excitation method on finite element seismic analysis results (such as accumulated equivalent plastic strain, equivalent plastic strain considering cyclic plasticity, von Mises effective stress, etc) of nuclear safety Class I components. For investigation, finite element elastic-plastic time-history seismic analysis is performed for a surge line including a pressurizer lower head, a pressurizer surge nozzle, a surge piping, and a hot leg surge nozzle using the Chaboche hardening model. Analysis is performed for various seismic loading methods such as acceleration excitation methods with and without the baseline correction, and a displacement excitation method. Comparing finite element analysis results, the effect of the baseline correction is investigated. As a result of the investigation, it is identified that finite element analysis results using the three methods do not show significant difference.
