A finite element analysis model is suggested for analysis of forming process of milli structure whose size is from a few hundreds ${\mu}m$ to a few mm. In this paper, finite element formulation which assemble crystal plasticity theory considering texture development with damage mechanics is developed, since orientation development and growth of micro voids became the primary factors for deformation aspects in large deformation of milli structure. Applying to, extremely, extrusion process of single crystal and extrusion/drawing process of polycrystal milli-size bar, extrusion force, preferred orientation, and damage evolution are examined to understand the characteristics of deformation of milii-size bar.
To reflect the size effect of material $(1\sim15{\mu}m)$ during plastic deformation of polycrystalline copper, a constitutive equation which includes the strain gradient plasticity theory and intrinsic material length model is coupled with the finite element analysis and applied to plane strain deformation problem. The method of least square has been used to calculate the strain gradient at each element during deformation and the effect of distributed force on the strain gradient is investigated as well. It shows when material size is less than the intrinsic material length $(1.54{\mu}m)$, its deformation behavior is quite different compared with that computed from the conventional plasticity. The generation of strain gradient is greatly suppressed, but it appears again as the material size increases. Results also reveal that the strain gradient leads to deformation hardening. The distributed force plays a role to amplify the strain gradient distribution.

Three-dimensional rigid-plastic finite element formulation based on the membrane theory was described and a computer program for large deformation analysis was developed. In the formulation, normal and planar anisotropy of sheet material and rotation of the principal axes of anisotropy was taken into consideration. Sheet metal was assumed to be rigid-plastic material obeying Hill's quadratic yield criterion and its associated flow rule. Deep drawing process, as a preliminary test, for normal anisotropic material was analyzed in order to examine the validity of developed finite element program. The results were consistent with the existing finite element solutions or experimental data. The present study was mainly concerned with the influence of planar anisotropy on deformation behaviour. Finite element analysis and experiment were carried out for the whole process of deep drawing of planar anisotropic material. The computational and experimental results on the shape of ear, strain distribution and punch load were in good agreement.
Embankments on soft ground experience significant deformation during time-dependent consolidation settlement, as well as an initial undrained settlement. Since infinitesimal strain theory assumes no configuration change and minute strain during deformation, finite strain analysis is required for better prediction of geotechnical problems involving large strain and geometric change induced by imposed loadings. Updated Lagrangian formulation is developed for time-dependent consolidation combining both force equilibrium and mass conservation of fluid, and mechanical constitutive equation is written in Janumann stress rate. Numerical convergence during Newton's iteration in large deformation analysis is improved by Nagtegaal's approach of considering the effect of rotation in mechanical constitutive relationship. Numerical simulations are conducted to discuss numerical reliability and applicability of developed numerical code: deformation of cantilever beam, two-dimensional consolidation. The numerical results show that developed formulation can efficiently describe large deformation problems. Proposed formulation is expected to facilitate the upgrading of a numerical code based on infinitesimal strain theory to that based on finite strain analysis.

The actuating performance of plate-type unimorph piezoelectric composite actuators having various stacking sequences was evaluated by three dimensional finite element analysis on the basis of thermal analogy model. Thermal residual stress distribution at each layer in an asymmetrically laminated plate with PZT ceramic layer and thermally induced dome height were predicted using classical laminated plate theory. Thermal analogy model was applied to a bimorph cantilever beam and LIPCA-C2 actuator in order to confirm its validity. Finite element analysis considering thermal residual deformation showed that the bending behavior of piezoelectric composite actuator subjected to electric loads was significantly different according to the stacking sequence, thickness of constituent PZT ceramic and boundary conditions. In particular, the increase of thickness of PZT ceramic led to the increase of the bending stiffness of piezoelectric composite actuator but it did not always lead to the decrease of actuation distance according to the stacking sequences of piezoelectric composite actuator. Therefore, it is noted that the actuating performance of unimorph piezoelectric composite actuator is rather affected by bending stiffness than actuation distance.

The deformation mechanism of hexagonal close-packed materials is quite complicate including slips and twins. A deformation mechanism, which accounts for both slip and twinning, was investigated for polycrystalline hop materials. The model was developed in a finite element polycrystal model formulated with initial strain method where the stiffness matrix in FEM is based on the elastic modulus. We predicted numerically the texture of Mg alloy(AZ31B) sheet by using FEM based on crystal plasticity theory. Also, we introduced the recrystallized texture employed the maximum energy release theory after rolling. From the numerical study, it was clarified that the shrink twin could not be the main mechanism for shortening of c-axis, because the lattice rotation due to twin rejects fur c-axis to become parallel to ND(normal direction of plate). It was showed that the deformation texture with the pyramidal slip gives the ring type pole figure having hole in the center.
A finite-element model for beams with partially delaminated layers is used to investigate their behavior. In this formulation account is taken of lateral strains and the first-order shear deformation theory is used. Both displacement continuity and force equilibrium conditions are imposed between the regions with and without delamination. Numerical results of the present model are presented and its performance is evaluated for static and dynamic problems.
The aim of this study is to calculate natural frequencies and harmonic responses of cracked frames with general boundary conditions by using transfer matrix method (TMM). The TMM is a straightforward technique to obtain harmonic responses and natural frequencies of frame structures as the method is based on constructing a relationship between state vectors of two ends of structure by a chain multiplication procedure. A single variable shear deformation theory (SVSDT) is applied, as well as, Timoshenko beam theory (TBT) and Euler-Bernoulli beam theory (EBT) for comparison purposes. Firstly, free vibration analysis of intact and cracked frames are performed for different crack ratios using TMM. The crack is modelled by means of a linear rotational spring that divides frame members into segments. The results are verified by experimental data and finite element method (FEM) solutions. The harmonic response curves that represent resonant and anti-resonant frequencies directly are plotted for various crack lengths. It is seen that the TMM can be used effectively for harmonic response analysis of cracked frames as well as natural frequencies calculation. The results imply that the SVSDT is an efficient alternative for investigation of cracked frame vibrations especially with thick frame members. Moreover, EBT results can easily be obtained by ignoring shear deformation related terms from governing equation of motion of SVSDT.
Welding deformation reduces the accuracy of ship hull blocks and decreases productivity due to the need for correction work. Preparing an error-minimizing guide at the design stage will lead to higher quality as well as higher productivity. Therefore, developing a precise method to predict the weld deformation is an essential part of it. This paper proposes an efficient method for predicting the weld deformation of complicated structures based on the inherent strain theory combined with the finite element method. A simulation of a stiffened panel confirmed the applicability of this method to simple ship hull blocks.

In this paper, we present the equations of motion by which the natural vibration of a rotating annular disk can be analyzed accurately. These equations are derived from the theory of finite deformation and the principle of virtual work. The radial displacements of annular disk at the steady state where the disk is rotating at a constant angular velocity are determined by non-linear static equations formulated with 1-dimensional finite elements in radial direction. The linearlized equations of the in-plane vibrations at the disturbed state are also formulated with 1-dimensional finite elements in radial direction along the number of nodal diameters. They are expressed as in functions of the radial displacements at the steady state and the disturbed displacements about the steady state. In-plane static deformation modes of an annular disk are used as the displacement functions for the interpolation functions of the 1-dimensional finite elements. The natural vibrations of an annular disk with different boundary conditions are analyzed by using the presented model and the 3-dimensional finite element model to verify accuracy of the presented equations of motion. Its results are compared and discussed.
