It is faced with the necessity of multi roll forming process of the ball slide rail which is made by adding the separate manufacturing processes, piercing, bending, trimming, to the roll forming process of a continuous plastic deformation, to improve the quality. However, the vibration and noise of the press machine in this process leads to the quality degradation of slide rail manufactured in this process. In this study, the roll was designed considering the optimal strain rates by the roll forming program with finite element method. And to estimate the static stability of the multi process the Von-Mises stress and deformation on the press was calculated with a structural analysis program. Also, to avoid driving systems in the resonance region their natural frequencies in the 1st and 2nd mode were calculated through the modal analysis. To verify its dynamic stability improvement the magnitudes of noise and vibration in the existing and studied system were compared using a microphone and accelerometers. And the widths and surface roughnesses of the rails which had been produced in the existing and studied process were measured. Therefore, it is known that multi roll forming process is stable in the analytical and experimental study.

In this study, the FEM technique was applied to design the shape of the horn that transmits ultrasonic vibration energy to the base material, and the shape of the welding horn with a one-wavelength bar shape used in the 20kHz region was designed. The shape design of the horn was performed by applying the rod longitudinal vibration theory to Ansys APDL (Ansys Parametric Design Language). Twenty-five models were designed using the ratio of the area of the input and output surfaces of the vibration and the length of the horn to derive the appropriate horn shape. The horn was designed with a total length of 130mm, a step length of 65mm, and an output area of 28.79mm. The horn was fabricated using the optimized dimensions, and the vibration and displacement characteristics of the horn were evaluated using the measurement system. Finally, a uniform longitudinal step horn was designed, and more than 97.4% of the uniformity of the tip was secured. The amplitude ratio of the optimized horn was improved by 51%.

In this Paper, the Performance of the convolution method has been investigated as an effort to develop a simple system of predicting wind-driven surface current on a real time basis. In this approach wind stress is assumed to be spatially uniform and the effect of atmospheric pressure is neglected. The discrete convolution weights are determined in advance at each point using a linear three-dimensional Galerkin model with linear shape functions(Galerkin-FEM model). Four directions of wind stress(e.g. NE, SW, NW, SE) with unit magnitude are imposed in the model calculation for the construction of data base for convolution weights. Given the time history of wind stress, it is then possible to predict with-driven currents promptly using the convolution product of finite length. An unsteady wind stress of arbitrary form can be approximated by a series of wind pulses with magnitude of 6 hour averaged value. A total of 12 pulses are involved in the convolution product To examine the accuracy of the convolution method a series of numerical experiments has been carried out in the idealized basin representing the scale of the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea. The wind stress imposed varies sinusoidally in time. It was found that the predicted surface currents and elevation fields were in good agreement with the results computed by the direct integration of the Galerkin model. A model with grid 1/8$^{\circ}$ in latitude, l/6$^{\circ}$ in longitude was established which covers the entire region of the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea. The numerical prediction in terms of the convolution product has been carried out with particular attention on the formation of upwind flow in the middle of the Yellow Sea by northerly wind.

This paper is concerned with numerical analyses of residual stresses in welds and material's susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) for the primary piping system in nuclear power plants: Both the dissimilar metal weld (DMW) for stainless steel to low alloy steel joints and the similar metal weld (SMW) for forged stainless steel to cast stainless steel joints are considered. Thermal elasto-plastic analyses using the finite element method (FEM) are performed to predict residual stresses generated in fabrication welding and its related processes for both the DMW and SMW, including effects of quenching for cast stainless steel piping, machining of the DMW root, and grinding of the SMW root. As a result, the effect of quenching should be included in the evaluation of residual stresses in the SMW for the cast stainless steel piping. It is deemed that residual stresses in both the DMW and SMW would not affect the SCC susceptibility of the welds providing that the welding processes are completed without any weld repair on the inside wall of the joint. However, the grinding process if performed on the safe-end to piping weld, would produce a high level of residual stresses in the inner surface region and thus a stress improvement process (e.g. buffing) should be considered to reduce susceptibilities to SCC.

In pressurized water reactors (PWRs), the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) upper head contains numerous control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) nozzles. In the last 10 years, the incidences of cracking in alloy 600 CRDM nozzles and their associated welds has increased significantly. Several axial and circumferential cracks have been found in CRDM nozzles in European PWRs and U.S. nuclear power plants. These cracks are caused by primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) and have been shown to be driven by welding residual stresses and operational stresses in the weld region. Therefore, detailed finite-element (FE) simulations for the Korea Nuclear Reactor Pressure Vessel have been conducted in order to predict the magnitudes of the weld residual stresses in the tube materials. In particular, the weld residual stress results are compared in terms for nozzle location, geometry factor$r_o$/t, geometry of fillet, and adjacent nozzle.
Species distribution modeling is one of the most effective habitat analysis methods for wildlife conservation. This study was for evaluating the suitability of species distribution to distance between forest patches in Seoul city using tits. We analyzed the distribution of the four species of tits: varied tit (Parus varius), marsh tit (P. palustris), great tit (P. major) and coal tit (P. ater), using the landscape indexes and connectivity indexes, and compared the resulting suitability indexes from 100m to 1,000m. As factors affecting to the distribution of tits, we calculated landscape indices by separating them into intra-patch indices (i.e. logged patch area (PA), area-weighted mean patch shape index (PSI), tree rate (TR)) and inter-patch indices (i.e. patch degree (PD), patch betweenness (PB), difference probability of connectivity (DPC)), to analyze the internal properties of the patches and their connectivity by tits occurrence data using logistic regression modeling. The models were evaluated by AICc (Akaike Information Criteria with a correction for finite sample sizes) and AUC (Area Under Curve of ROC). The results of AICc and AUC showed DPC, PA, PSI, and TR were important factors of the habitat models for great tit and marsh tit at the level of distance 500~800m. In contrast, habitat models for coal tit and varied tit, which are known as forest interior species, reflected PA, PSI, and TR as intra-patch indices rather than connectivity. These mean that coal tit and varied tit are more likely to find a large circular forest patch than a small and long-shaped forest patch, which are higher rate of forest. Therefore, different strategies are required in order to enhance the habitats of the forest birds, tits, in a region that has fragmented forest patches such as Seoul city. It is important to manage forest interior areas for coal tit and varied tit, which are known as forest interior species and to manage not only forest interior areas but also connectivity of the forest patches in the threshold distance for great tit and marsh tit as adapted species to the urban ecosystem for sustainable ecosystem management.

The SAR patterns of biological objects contacted with coaxial waveguide antennal has been investigated, in which the biological object was modeled by a homogeneous and four-layered lossy human body. We derived the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) algorithm and equation of MUR and generalized perfectly matched layer(GPML) ABCs in cylindrical coordination. The coupling between coaxial waveguide antenna and a biological object was analyzed by use of MUR and GPML ABCs in the FDTD method to obtain the absorbed power patterns in the media. The specific absorption rates (SAR) distribution which was corresponding to the temperature distribution was calculated in each region by use of the steady-state response in the FDTD method. The SAR patterns of the FDTD method using MUR absorbing boundary conditions(ABCs) was compared with those of the FDTD method using GPML ABCs. The comparison exhibits that the penetration depth of the SAR patterns using MUR ABCs is deeper than that of the SAR patterns using GPML ABCs because of loss in free space. However, the spread in the lateral directions of the SAR patterns using GPML ABCs is smaller than of the SAR patterns using MUR ABCs.
The interpretation of observed waveform characteristics identified in refraction and wide-angle reflection data increases confidence in the crustal structure model obtained. When calculating traveltimes and raypaths, wavefront methods on a regular grid based on graph theory are robust even with complicated structures, but basically compute only first arrivals. In this paper, we develop new algorithms to compute traveltimes and raypaths not only for first arrivals, but also for fast and later reflection arrivals, later refraction arrivals, and converted waves between P and S, using the modified wavefront method based on slowness network nodes mapped on a multi-layer model. Using the new algorithm, we can interpret reflected arrivals, Pg-later arrivals, strong arrivals appearing behind Pn, triplicated Moho reflected arrivals (PmP) to obtain the shape of the Moho, and phases involving conversion between P and S. Using two models of an ocean-continent transition zone and an oceanic ridge or seamount, we show the usefulness of this algorithm, which is confirmed by synthetic seismograms using the 2D Finite Difference Method (2D-FDM). Characteristics of arrivals and raypaths of the two models differ from each other in that using only first-arrival traveltime data for crustal structure analysis involves risk of erroneous interpretation in the ocean-continent transition zone, or the region around a ridge or seamount.
The polymerization shrinkage behavior of dimethacrylate-based composite (Clearfil AP-X, Kuraray) and silorane-based composite (Filtek P90, 3M ESPE) used for dental composite restorations was measured using digital image correlation method. The stress distribution on the surface of specimen was calculated by finite element analysis with equivalent elastic modulus and was compared with the measured shrinkage distribution. Camera images were monitored by a CCD camera during and after the irradiation of light. As a result of the DIC analysis, a non-uniform shrinkage distribution was observed in both composite resins, and the resin core inside the ring specimen had free flowability, leading to in greater shrinkage strain than the resin/ring interfacial region. It was observed that as the distance from the center of the resin increased, the radial average shrinkage strain decreased. The radial average shrinkage strain during light irradiation occurred to be 33% for P90 and 57% for AP-X of the entire strain at the end of the test. The shrinkage behavior of P90 and AP-X was measured to be significantly different from each other during light irradiation. In the resin near the resin/ring interface, it was confirmed that the tensile strain rapidly formed to increase after light irradiation, causing a tensile stressed, interface weak.

A new method for measuring the 3-axis cutting forces of a pick cutter by substituting costly 3-D load cells is proposed in this paper. The proposed cutting force measurement method is capable of estimating the 3-axis cutting forces through mechanical constraints using four single-axis compressive load cells and shoulder bolts. The feasibility of the proposed method was verified by finite element analysis, and the accuracy of the force measurement of the developed force measurement device was investigated by conducting linear rock cutting tests. The tests showed that the new cutting force measurement method is able to measure 3-axis cutting forces with a relative error of approximately 6%. These results imply that the new method could be a suitable alternative to conventional 3-D load cells. In addition, it will allow a significant reduction of approximately 20-30% in the costs required for measuring the cutting force when compared to conventional 3-D load cells.
