  • Since a derailment of rolling stocks results in huge losses in properties and lives, the measurement of a derailment coefficient is a very important test item to estimate the running safety of rolling stocks. For a measurement of the derailment measurement of forces between the wheel and rail a measuring wheel-set should be made first. The process to make a measuring wheel-set has some stages for correct measurement. They are as follows; a finite element analysis of a wheel to find a position of holes at which vertical force shall be measured, a finite element analysis for the position of strain gauges.

공기압 실린더용 저마찰 피스톤 실의 특성해석 (Analysis of a Low Friction Piston Seal in Pneumatic Cylinders)

  • Nonlinear seal friction in pneumatic cylinders can impede the performance of pneumatic systems designed for high precision positioning with favorable high speed actuation. The behaviour of an elastomeric piston seals in high speed pneumatic cylinders is analyzed by nonlinear finite element analysis using ABAQUS. The contact pressures, stress and strain distributions and frictional forces of the squeeze type piston seal are simulated with variation of the seal radial installed interference, the operating pressures, friction coefficients and piston rod velocities. The nonlinear finite element model of the squeeze type piston seal is used to predict deformation of a seal, friction force and contact pressure distributions.

  • Minimum clearance between the piston seal groove of a piston and cylinder bore to ensure against extrusion of the piston seal and leakage of working fluids is an important design parameter for a seal designer in hydraulic cylinder application. Contact force, critical pressure at which extrusion occurs, leakage rate, fluid film thickness and friction force have been analyzed for some design parameter such as clearance between cylinder wall piston, depth of rectangular groove and pressure of sealed hydraulic fluid.   • In this paper, the rigid-viscoplastic finite element method is employed together with an iteratively force-balancing method to analyze a piercing and trimming process with a spring-attached die in hot former forging. An actual piercing and trimming process with a spring-attached die is investigated in detail and a generalized analysis model is proposed. A multi-stage hot former forging process is simulated under various spring constants. The analyzed results are discussed in order to investigate the effects of spring constants on the metal flow lines and the formed shapes. Then an optimal piercing and trimming process in hot former forging is devised.

유한요소해석을 이용한 프리스트레스트 보의 처짐에 대한 변수 해석 (A Parametric Study of Deflection Analysis of the Prestressed Beams using Finite Element Analysis)

  • 본 연구에서는 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 보의 처짐 예측을 위해 재료비선형이 고려된 콘크리트 및 철근, 강연선의 거동을 고려할 수 있는 구성모델을 조합하여 적층 쉘 요소를 사용한 유한요소해석 모델에 적용하였다. 이를 기존 연구자들의 실험 결과와 비교함으로써 모델의 타당성을 검증하였고, 스팬-깊이비, 편심 그리고 프리스트레싱 크기에 대한 처짐을 해석하고 이를 수계산 결과와 비교하였다. 그 결과, 스팬-깊이비가 커질수록, 편심이 작아질수록, 프리스트레싱 크기가 작아질수록 처짐이 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 편심이 매우 작을 경우와 프리스트레싱 크기가 매우 작을 경우에는 수계산이 처짐을 과대평가한다는 것을 확인하였다.

  • This paper is concerned with the numerical analysis of frictional contact problems in axisymmetric bodies using the rigid-plastic finite element method. A contact finite element method, based on a penalty function, are derived from variational formulations. The contact boundary condition between two deformable bodies is prescribed by the proposed algorithm. The program which can handle frictional contact problem is developed by using pre-existing rigid-plastic finite element code. Some examples used in this paper illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed formulations and algorithms. Efforts focus on the deformation patterns, contact force, and velocity gradient through the various simulations.

  • This paper presents a finite element analysis of the electromechanical field in the spindle motor of a computer hard disk drive considering the speed control and mechanical flexibility. The driving circuit equation is modified by considering the switching action of PWM inverter, and is coupled with the Maxwell equation to obtain the nonlinear time-stepping finite element equation for the analysis of magnetic field. Magnetic force and torque are calculated by the Maxwell stress tensor. Mechanical motion of a rotor is determined by a time-stopping finite element method considering the flexibility of shaft, rotor and bearing. Both magnetic and mechanical finite element equations are combined in the closed loop to control the speed using PWM. Simulation results are verified by the experiments, and they are in food agreement with the experimental results.

  • The rotating electrodynamic wheel over a conductive plate produces thrust force as well as normal force. Specially, separating the conductive plate and spacing apart each part, the lateral stability of the rotating wheel is guaranteed due to the restoring force into neutral position. In this paper, the force characteristics of the electrodynamic wheel rotating over the conductive plate is analyzed using the finite element tool. First, the dominant parameters are identified considering the geometric configuration and the operating condition. And the sensitivity for the parameter deviation is quantified for the high force density. The above topology can be applied as an actuating principle for inter-city train as well as contact-free transfer device.

  • Although the finite element method is a good tool to analyze skin-pass rolling, it is hard to be applied in the field because of its long calculation time. In the current study, simple numerical models were developed for the prediction of roll force and residual stress profiles along the strip width. These models are based on finite element analysis and a coupled solution of Sims’ equation and Hitchcock’s formula. The results indicate that plastic strains can be represented as in simple equations of the deformed roll profile and the initial thickness of the strip.
