Fingerprint recognition technology was studied by classification and matching. In general, there are five different classifications left loop, right loop, whore, arch, and tented-arch. These classifications are used to determine which class an individual's fingerprint belong to, thereby identifying the individual's fingerprint pattern. The result of this classification, which is sent to the large fingerprint database as an index, helps reduce the matching time and enhance the accuracy of fingerprint matching. The existing fingerprint classification method relies on the number and location of cores and delta points called singular points. The drawback of this method is the lack of accuracy stemming from the classification difficulty involving unclear and/or partially-erased fingerprints. The current paper presents an efficient classification method to rectify the problem associated with identifying Singular points from unclear fingerprints. This method, which is based on Gabor filter's unique characteristics for magnifying directional patterns and frequency range selections, improves fingerprint classification accuracy significantly. In this paper, this method is described and its test result is presented for verification.

This paper proposes a methodology to evaluate the quality and level of difficulty of fingerprint image databases, which leads to objective evaluation for the performance of fingerprint recognition system. Influencing factors to fingerprint matching are defined and the matching performance between two fingerprint images is evaluated using segmentation and orientation filed. In this study, a hierarchical processing method is proposed to measure an orientation field, which is able to improve the matching speed and accuracy. The results of experiments demonstrate that the defined influencing factors can describe the characteristics of fingerprint databases. Level of difficulty for fingerprint databases enables the performance of fingerprint recognition algorithms to be evaluated and compared even with different databases.

Fingerprints are increasingly used for user authentication in small devices such as mobile phones. Therefore, it is important for Fingerprint authentication systems in personal devices to protect the user's fingerprint information while performing efficiently with a lightweight matching algorithm. In this paper, we propose a new method to extract strong minutiae with unique numbers from fingerprint images. Strong minutiae are at all times obtained from fingerprint images, and can be useful for secure and rapid fingerprint authentication. The binary information of strong minutiae of a fingerprint can be transformed securely and can create cancelable fingerprint templates. Also the bit-strings of strong minutiae decrease computing time necessary for the matching procedure between two fingerprints due to the simplicity of bitwise operations. First, we enroll several fingerprints images of a finger. From these images we select a reference fingerprint and put a number on each minutia. Following this procedure, we search for mated-minutiae between the reference fingerprint and other fingerprints one by one. Finally we derive unique numbers of strong minutiae of the finger. In the experiment with the FVC2004 fingerprint database, we show that using the proposed method, strong minutiae can be extracted successfully.
The personal identification procedure through the fingerprints is divided as the classification process by the type of the fingerprints and the matching process to confirm oneself. Many existing researches for the classification and the matching of the fingerprint depend on the number of the minutiae of the fingerprints and the flow patterns by their direction information. In this paper, we focus on extracting the singular points by using the flow patterns of the direction information from identification. The extracted singular points are utilized as a standard point for the matching process by connecting with the extracted information from the singular point embodied. The orthogonal coordinates which is generated by the axises of the standard point can increase the accuracy of the fingerprints matching because of minimizing the effects on the location changes of the fingerprint images.
This paper describes an adaptive hybrid fingerprint matching method using minutiae, filterbank, and the quality of fingerprint. We estimate the quality of each block in the fingerprint image and extract the probability expectation about the quality of each block. By using this expectation, we could achieve the robust matching rate despite of noise distortion. The matching rate of the proposed method is higher than that of other methods. However, the matching speed is similar with that of others as shown in the results.
In this paper, fingerprint minutiae mosaicking algorithm using minutiae of fingerprint is proposed. First, minutiae map is generated from minutiae of fingerprint and minutiae constellation is generated from fingerprint minutiae map. Minutiae constellation is constellation-shaped structure generated from Voronoi Diagram and Delaunay Triangulation using information of minutiae. Secondly, common region is detected by similarity of minutiae constellation of fingerprint minutiae map and minutiae map of individual fingerprint image is composed. Consequently composite minutiae map by mosaicking of fingerprint minutiae improve the performance of the fingerprint matching system.
This paper proposes the method to extract a binary audio fingerprint by combining several base binary fingerprints. Based on majority voting of base fingerprints, which are designed by mimicking the fingerprint used in Philips fingerprinting system, the proposed fingerprint is determined. In the matching part, the base fingerprints are extracted from the query, and distance is computed using the sum of them. In the experiments, the proposed fingerprint outperforms the base binary fingerprints. The method can be used for enhancing the existing binary fingerprint or for designing a new fingerprint.

In this paper, we propose a fingerprint verification algorithm for the embedded system based on the minutia extracted using the image quality, the minutia structure, and the Sequency and the orientation of ridges. After the pre- and the post-processing, the true minutia are selected, thus it shows high reliability in the fingerprint verification. In matching process, we consider the errors caused by shift, rotation, and pressure when acquiring the fingerprint image and reduce the matching time by applying a local matching instead of a full matching to select the reference pair. The proposed algorithm has been designed and verified in Arm920T environment and various techniques for the realtime process have been applied. Time taken from the fingerprint registration through out the matching is 0.541 second that is relevant for the realtime applications. The FRR (False Reject Rate) and FAR (False Accept Rate) show 0.079 and 0.00005 respectively.

In this paper, we propose a new automatic fingerprint identification system that identifies individuals in large databases. The algorithm consists of three steps; preprocessing, classification, and matching, in the classification. we present a new classification technique based on the statistical approach for directional image distribution. In matching, we also describe improved minutiae candidate pair extraction algorithm that is faster and more accurate than existing algorithm. In matching stage, we extract fingerprint minutiaes from its thinned image for accuracy, and introduce matching process using minutiae linking information. Introduction of linking information into the minutiae matching process is a simple but accurate way, which solves the problem of reference minutiae pair selection in comparison stage of two fingerprints quickly. This algorithm is invariant to translation and rotation of fingerprint. The proposed system was tested on 1000 fingerprint images from the semiconductor chip style scanner. Experimental results reveal false acceptance rate is decreased and genuine acceptance rate is increased than existing method.
