The Fingerprint Recognition Technology had many development until now. But, There is yet many point which the accuracy improves with operation speed in the side. First of all we study fingerprint classification to reduce existing preprocessing step and then extract a Feature-factors with direction information in fingerprint image. Also in the paper, we consider minimization of noise for effective fingerprint recognition system.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new approach to fingerprint classification based on both singular points and gabor features. We find singular points of fingerprint image by using squared direction field and Poincare index. Then, the input fingerprint image can be classified into one of 5 classes using the number of singular points and their location. However, it is often impossible to classify the fingerprint image because the numbers and the position of the singular points are not correct due to noise. In this case Gabor features are extracted from unclassified images using Gator filter and they are classified by using k-NN classifier. This method has been tested on the NIST-4 database. The experimental results show that the proposed method is reliable.

  • In this paper, we propose a new automatic fingerprint identification system that identifies individuals in large databases. The algorithm consists of three steps; preprocessing, classification, and matching, in the classification. we present a new classification technique based on the statistical approach for directional image distribution. In matching, we also describe improved minutiae candidate pair extraction algorithm that is faster and more accurate than existing algorithm. In matching stage, we extract fingerprint minutiaes from its thinned image for accuracy, and introduce matching process using minutiae linking information. Introduction of linking information into the minutiae matching process is a simple but accurate way, which solves the problem of reference minutiae pair selection in comparison stage of two fingerprints quickly. This algorithm is invariant to translation and rotation of fingerprint. The proposed system was tested on 1000 fingerprint images from the semiconductor chip style scanner. Experimental results reveal false acceptance rate is decreased and genuine acceptance rate is increased than existing method.

  • A fingerprint core-point detection algorithm is presented in this paper. Core-point is useful for fingerprint classification and also for the fingerprint verification since it giver a reference to a fingerprint. Traditional methods of finding the core-point is introduced. These methods are the method using poincare index and the method using sine component of ridge directions. The proposed method is modified algorithm of the latter using the poincare index. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves almost the same accuracy with faster speed.

  • In fingerprints, singular regions including core or delta points have different directional characteristics from non-singular regions. Generally, the ridges of singular regions change more abruptly than those of nonsingular areas, thus in order to effectively enhance fingerprint images regardless of region, local ridge curvature information needs to be used. In this paper, we present an improved Directional Filter Bank (DFB)-based fingerprint image enhancement method that effectively takes advantage of such ridge curvature information. The proposed method first decomposes a fingerprint image into 8 directional subbands using the DFB and then classifies the image into background, low curvature, and high curvature regions using the directional energy estimates calculated from the subbands. Thereafter, the weight values for directional subband processing are determined using classification information and directional energy estimates. Finally, the enhanced image is obtained by synthesizing the processed subbands. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is effective in enhancing both singular and non-singular regions.

  • This paper presents a new postprocessing method to eliminate the false minutiae, that caused by the skelectonization of fingerprint image, and an image compression method using Isometric Self Organizing Map(ISOSOM). Since the SOM has simple structure, fast encoding time, and relatively good classification characteristics, many image processing areas adopt this such as image compression and pattern classification, etc. But, the SOM shows limited performances in pattern classification because of it's single layer structure. To maximize the performance of the pattern classification with small code book, we a lied the Isometric SOM with the isometry of the fractal theory. The proposed Isometric SOM postprocessing and compression algorithm of fingerprint image showed good performances in the elimination of false minutiae and the image compression simultaneously.

  • This paper introduces an efficient fingerprint matching method based on multiple reference minutiae points. First, we attempt to effectively align two fingerprints by employing multiple reference minutiae points. However, the corresponding minutiae points between two fingerprints are ambiguous since a minutia of one fingerprint can be a match to any minutia of the other fingerprint. Therefore, we introduce a novel method based on linear classification concept to establish minutiae correspondences between two fingerprints. Each minutiae correspondence represents a possible alignment. For each possible alignment, a matching score is computed using minutiae and ridge orientation features and the maximum score is then selected to represent the similarity of the two fingerprints. The proposed method is evaluated using fingerprint databases, FVC2002 and FVC2004. In addition, we compare our approach with two existing methods and find that our approach outperforms them in term of matching accuracy, especially in the case of non-linear distorted fingerprints. Furthermore, the experiments show that our method provides additional advantages in low quality fingerprint images such as inaccurate position, missing minutiae, and spurious extracted minutiae.

  • Fingerprint classification is useful in an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) to reduce the matching time by categorizing fingerprints. Based on Henry system that classifies fingerprints into S classes, various techniques such as neural networks and support vector machines (SVMs) have been widely used to classify fingerprints. Especially, SVMs of high classification performance have been actively investigated. Since the SVM is binary classifier, we propose a novel classifier-combination model, multiple decision templates (MuDTs), to classily fingerprints. The method extracts several clusters of different characteristics from samples of a class and constructs a suitable combination model to overcome the restriction of the single model, which may be subject to the ambiguous images. With the experimental results of the proposed on the FingerCodes extracted from NIST Database4 for the five-class and four-class problems, we have achieved a classification accuracy of $90.4\%\;and\;94.9\%\;with\;1.8\%$ rejection, respectively.

  • Nowadays, there have been an increasing number of illegal use cases where people try to fabricate the working hours by using fake fingerprints. So, the fingerprint liveness detection techniques have been actively studied and widely demanded in various applications. This paper proposes a new method to detect fake fingerprints using CNN (Convolutional Neural Ntworks) based on the patches of fingerprint images. Fingerprint image is divided into small square sized patches and each patch is classified as live, fake, or background by the CNN. Finally, the fingerprint image is classified into either live or fake based on the voting result between the numbers of fake and live patches. The proposed method does not need preprocessing steps such as segmentation because it includes the background class in the patch classification. This method shows promising results of 3.06% average classification errors on LivDet2011, LivDet2013 and LivDet2015 dataset.

  • The personal identification procedure through the fingerprints is divided as the classification process by the type of the fingerprints and the matching process to confirm oneself. Many existing researches for the classification and the matching of the fingerprint depend on the number of the minutiae of the fingerprints and the flow patterns by their direction information. In this paper, we focus on extracting the singular points by using the flow patterns of the direction information from identification. The extracted singular points are utilized as a standard point for the matching process by connecting with the extracted information from the singular point embodied. The orthogonal coordinates which is generated by the axises of the standard point can increase the accuracy of the fingerprints matching because of minimizing the effects on the location changes of the fingerprint images.
