Friction welding of $Al_2O_3$ particulate reinforced aluminum composites was performed and the following conclusions were drawn from the study of interfacial bonding characteristics and the relationship between experimental parameters of friction welding and interfacial bond strength. Highest bonded joint efficiency (HBJE) approaching $100\%$ was obtained from the post-brake timing, indicating that the bonding strength of the joint is close to that of the base material. For the pre-brake timing, HBJE was $65\%$. Most region of the bonded interface obtained from post-brake timing exhibited similar microstructure with the matrix or with very thin, fine-grained $Al_2O_3$ layer. This was attributed to the fact that the fine-grained $Al_2O_3$ layer forming at the bonding interface was drawn out circumferentially in this process. Joint efficiency of post-brake timing was always higher than that of pre-brake timing regardless of rotation speed employed. In order to guarantee the performance of friction welded joint similar to the efficiency of matrix, it is necessary to push out the fine-grained $Al_2O_3$ layer forming at the bonding interface circumferentially. As a result, microstructure of the bonded joint similar to that of the matrix with very thin, fine-grained $Al_2O_3$ layer can be obtained.
Pure tantalum powder has been produced by sodium as a reluctant, $K_2TaF_7$as a feed material and KCl/KF as a diluent in an inconel stainless steel bomb by the metallothermic reduction. The influence of experimental variable, such as temperature of reduction on the yield and characteristics of the Ta powder has been studied. As the temperature of the reduction was varied from$ 800{\circ}C~980{\circ}C$, the yield of tantalum powder increased from 41% to 56%. However no appreciable improvement was observed above$920{\circ}C$. The fraction of fine Ta Powder decreased appreciably with the increase of temperature, and particle size was$2~3{\mu}m$at reduction temperature of$920{\circ}C$.Therefore a reduction temperature of$920{\circ}C$was optimally fixed for subsequent runs.
Mechanochemical processing (MCP) involves several high-energy collisions of powder particles with the milling media and results in the increased reactivity/sinterability of powder. The present paper shows results of mechanochemical processing (MCP) of silicon nitride powder mixture with the relevant sintering additives. The effects of MCP were studied by structural changes of powder particles themselves as well as by the resulting sintering/densification ability. It has been found that MCP significantly enhances reactivity and sinterability of the resultant material: silicon nitride ceramics could be pressureless sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$. Nevertheless, a degree of a silicon nitride crystal lattice and powder particle destruction (amorphization) as detected by XRD studies, is limited by the specific threshold. If that value is crossed then particle's surface damage effects are prevailing thus severe evaporation overdominates mass transport at elevated temperature. It is discussed that the cross-solid interaction between particles of various chemical composition, triggered by many different factors during mechanochemical processing, including a short-range diffusion in silicon nitride particles after collisions with other types of particles plays more important role in enhanced reactivity of tested compositions than amorphization of the crystal lattice itself. Controlled deagglomeration of $Si_3N_4$ particles during the course of high-energy milling was also considered.
This study used a volumetric method for design. The control group used waste Liquid Crystal Displayplay (LCD) glass powder to replace cement (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%), and the PZT group used Pd-Zr-Ti piezoelectric (PZT) powder to replace 5% of the fine aggregate to make cement mortar. The engineering and the mechanical and electricity properties were tested; flow, compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), water absorption and resistivity (SSD and OD electricity at 50 V and 100 V) were determined; and the correlations were determined by linear regression. The compressive strength of the control group (29.5-31.8 MPa) was higher than that of the PZT group (25.1-29 MPa) by 2.8-4.4 MPa at the curing age of 28 days. A 20% waste LCD glass powder replacement (31.8 MPa) can fill up finer pores and accelerate hydration. The control group had a higher 50 V-SSD resistivity ($1870-3244{\Omega}.cm$), and the PZT group had a lower resistivity ($1419-3013{\Omega}.cm$), meaning that the resistivity increases with the replacement of waste LCD glass powder. This is because the waste LCD glass powder contains 62% $SiO_2$, which is a low dielectric material that is an insulator. Therefore, the resistivity increases with the $SiO_2$ content.

The nanostructured cerium oxide powders were synthesized by spray thermal decomposition process for the use as the raw materials of resistive oxygen sensor. The synthesis routes consisted of 1) spray drying of water based organic solution made from cerium nitrate hydrate ($Ce(NO_3){_3}6H_2O$) and 2) heat treatment of spray dried precursor powders at $400^{\circ}C$ in air atmosphere to remove the volatile components and identically to oxidize the cerium component. The produced powders have shown the loose structure agglomerated with extremely fine cerium oxide particles with about 15 nm and very high specific surface area ($110m^2/g$). The oxygen sensitivity, n ($Log{\propto}Log (P_{O2}/P^o)^{-n}$ and the response time, $t_{90}$ measured at $600^{\circ}C$ in the sample sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$, were about 0.25 and 3 seconds, respectively, which had much higher performances than those known in micron or $100{\sim}200nm$ sized sensors.

Biomimetic whisker-like apatite was formed on thermally and NaOH-treated titanium powder in a simulated body fluid (SBF). In the early process of the SBF immersion, the surface structure of the titanium powder was loosened, possibly due to the dissolution of $Na^+$ ions on the surface of the titanium powder into SBF. When immersed for 7 days in SBF, fine precipitates appeared on the titanium surfaces; the coating layer (<200 nm in thickness) consisted of nanostructured, amorphous whisker-like and particulate phase, observed by TEM. With the extension of the immersion time to 16 days, the chrysanthemum flower type morphology of carbonated hydroxyapatite with a nanocrystallinity was developed on the surface of the titanium powder.

Nano-sized Sn powder was prepared by pulsed wire evaporation method. The Sn powder and carbon black were charged in jar and ball milled. The milling time was varied with 10 min., 1h, 2h, and 4h, respectively. The milled powders were dried and the shape and size were observed by FE-SEM. Nano-sized Sn powders were plastic-deformed and agglomerated by impact force of balls and heat generated during the SPEX milling. The agglomerated Sn powder also consisted of many nano-sized particles. Initial discharge capacities of milled Sn electrode powders with carbon powder were milled for 10 min., 1h, 2h, and 4h were 787, 829, 827, and 816 mAh/g, respectively. After 5 cycle, discharge capacities of Sn electrode powders with carbon powder milled for 10 min., 1h, 2h, and 4h decreased as 271, 331, 351, and 287 mAh/g, respectively. Because Sn electrode powders milled for 2h constist of uniform and fine size, the cyclability of coin cell made of this powders is better than others.

The powder injection molding process having advantages in manufacturing three-dimensional precision parts essentially requires a debinding process before sintering to remove the binders used for preparing feedstock. In this study, powder injection molding of translucent alumina was performed, and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) is used as a supercritical fluid that makes it possible to remove a large amount of binder, which is paraffin wax. The relationship between the optical property of translucent alumina and the debinding condition (temperature and pressure) of supercritical $CO_2$ was investigated. As temperature and pressure increased, extraction rate of the binder showed rising tendency and average grain size after sintering process was relatively fine. On the other hand, optical transmittance was reduced. As a result, the debinding condition at $50^{\circ}C$ and 20 MPa that represents the lowest extraction rate, $8.19{\times}10^{-3}m^2/sec$, corresponds to the largest grain size of $14.7{\mu}m$ and the highest optical transmittance of 45.2%.
The effect of the role of alloyed components on the densification of two kind of high speed steel (mixed and prealloyed powder), which were sintered at 1403~ 1573 K for 7.2 ks in vacuum, was investigated. The results obtained were as follows. (1) Without the presence of Vanadium (V), the relative density of sintered compacts (Ds) could not reached the density of 100% regardless of the. elements in the compacts. (2) The addition of V up to 2 mass% did not result In the complete densification when the carbon content was fixed at 2% in the compact. (3) With the fixed amount of V of 7%, Ds decreased with the increase of the carbon content. (4) The addition of mixed fine powder to the prealloyed powder in the range of 20 to 40% provided the complete densification and carbide panicles of 1~2 $\mu\textrm{m}$ through the solid phase sintering. (5) The V element played important role in controlling the complete or incomplete densification of the sintered compacts in the alloyed component because of its formation of stable oxide and carbide as well as the low equilibrium pressure of CO gas.
The formation of a thicker hard alloyed layer have been investigated on the surface of aluminum cast alloy (AC2B) by PTA overlaying process with Cr, Cu and Ni motel powders under the condition of overlaying current 125-200A. overlaying speed 150 mm/min and different powder feeding rate 5-20 g/min. In addition the characteristics of hardening and wear resistance of alloyed layer here been examined in relation to the microstructure of alloyed layer. Main results obtained were summarized as follows: 1) There was an optimum overlaying condition to get a good alloyed layer with smooth surface. This good layer became easy to be formed as increasing overlaying current and decreasing powder feeding rate under a constant overlaying speed. 2) Cu powder was the most superior one in metal powders used due to a wide optimum overlaying condition range, uniform hardness distribution of Hv250-350, good oar resistance and freedom from cracking in alloyed layer with fine hyper-eutectic structure. 3) On the contrary, irregular hardness distribution was usually obtained in Cr ar Ni alloyed layers of which hardness was increased as Cr or Ni contents and reached to maximum hardness of about Hv400-850 at about 60wt%cr or 40wt%Ni in alloyed layer. 4) Cracking occurred in Cr or Ni alloyed layers with higher hardness than Hv250-300 at mere than 20-25wt% of Cr or Ni contents in alloyed layer. Porosity was observed in all alloyed layers but decreased by usage of spherical powder with smooth surface.
