In order to render global illumination realistically, we need to accurately compute the direct and indirect illumination that represents the light information incoming through complex light paths. In this process, the indirect illumination at given point is greatly affected by surrounding geometries. Harmonic mean distance is a mathematical tool which is often used as a metric indicating the distance from a surface point to its visible objects in 3D space, and plays a key role in such advanced global illumination algorithms as irradiance/radiance caching and ambient occlusion. In this paper, we analyze the accuracy of harmonic mean distance estimated against various environments in the final gathering and photon mapping methods. Based on the experimental results, we discuss our experiences and future directions that may help develop an effective harmonic mean distance computation method in the future.

This paper presents a neural network model representing complex hydro-thermo-dynamic characteristics of a steam generator in nuclear power plants. The key modeling processes include training data gathering process, analysis of system dynamics and determining of the neural network structure, training process, and the final process for validation of the trained model. In this paper, we suggest a training data gathering method from an unstable steam generator so that the data sufficiently represent the dynamic characteristics of the plant over a wide operating range. In addition, we define the inputs and outputs of neural network model by analyzing the system dimension, relative degree, and inputs/outputs of the plant. Several types of neural networks are applied to the modeling and training process. The trained networks are verified by using a class of test data, and their performances are discussed.

A navigation system is one of the important components of an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). A GPS receiver collects data signals transmitted by (Earth orbiting) satellites. However, these data signals may contain many errors resulting misinformation and depending on one's position (environment), reception may be impossible. The proposed self-driven algorithm uses three low-cost GPS in order to minimize errors of existing inexpensive single GPS's driving algorithm. By using reliable final data, which is analyzed and combined from each of three GPS's received data signals, gathering a vehicle's steering performance information and its current pin-point position is improved even with error containing signals or from a place where signal gathering is impossible. The purpose of this thesis is to explain navigation system algorithm using multiple GPS and compass sensor and prove the algorithm through experiments.
3D rendering is a critical process for a movie production, advertisement, interior simulation, medical and many other fields. Recently, several effective rendering methods have been developed for the photo-realistic image generation. With a rapid performance enhancement of graphics hardware, physically based 3D rendering algorithm can now often be approximated in real-time games. However, the high quality of global illumination, required for the image generation in the 3D animation production community is a still very expensive process. In this paper, we propose a new rendering method to create photo-realistic global illumination effect efficiently by harnessing the high power of the recent GPUs. Final gathering routines in our global illumination module are accelerated by programmable graphics hardware. We also simulate physically based light transport on a ray tracing based rendering algorithm with photon mapping effectively.
This case study is an effort to provide new knowledge on the U.S. elderly public housing focusing on the residents' perceptions of the environmental conditions. For this study, we conducted a survey using written questionnaires and interviews with 20 residents who rent in Columbia, MO. The recorded interview data was used for final analysis; primary findings are as follows: The residents reported relatively high satisfaction on their overall environmental conditions in the two target public housing, built in 1950s. As the most significant problem, residents perceive the lack of storage space for individual units, Partially attributed to space limitations. In addition, bathroom needs varied dramatically among residents based on their health and whether wheelchairs are used. Therefore, it was found that instead of standardized bathrooms, a customizable configuration for the resident's unique physical condition and accessibility must be considered. The residents also addressed their concerns about security for entrance and foyer areas. Due to the small living areas, they wanted to have available outdoor public space for various social activities. Furthermore, they reported the need for small social gathering areas while friends and family members are visiting them, in addition to their small living units, which average 49.8 sq. ft. each.
Anchovy, Engraulis Japonica were caught by scoop net with fishing lamp in the surrounding water of Cheju and Seogwipo, and their gathering depth, gathering effects, change of catch by the age of the moon and submarine illumination were investigated from May to August 1985. Fish finder (SR-385) and fishing lamp (1 Kw incandescent) were set up at one meter of starboard of scoop net and one meter ahead of the prow together with two meters above the water surface respectively. The submarine illumunation was measured at 2m interval to both vertical direction of 0~18m and horizontal direction of 0~12m form the standard point which is to be 0.1m depth right under the fishing lamp. The catch of anchovy by scoop net was almost $90\%$ of total amount during the early period and the late period in moon age while as low as $10\%$ only was cought during the middle period. The catching depth of anchovy shoals by scoop net with fishing lamp was approximately 2~5m and submarine illuminations were 20~42 Lux, 24~48 Lux in Cheju and Seogwipo respec lively. Submarine illumination which could be cought by scoop net with fishing lamp should be 7~12 times lighter than before gathering since the shoals swiming at 10~15m depth which is 1.7~7 Lux illumination made by 1 Kw. AC 100V incandescent lamp, a surface gathering lamp of 2m high above anchovy scoop net came up to 2~5m depth which is 20~42 Lux illumination. The catching depth of anchovy by scoop net was 2~3m and this could be increased to 4m even though the AC voltage was decreased from 100V to 80V at final fishing stage.

The purpose of this study was to develop the teaching & learning model to increase the key competencies in the university. For this, the researcher suggested the draft of teaching & learning model in the university based on literature analysis and survey for key competencies education to professors and students. After that, the draft of the model was revised through the formative test by experts. And then, the revised model was verified through delphi survey and a final model was fixed. As the result of this study, features of the final model are as follows. First, this study identified that a core values of teaching and learning model for the key competencies education in the university is reinforcement of learner's thinking skills and enhancement of field oriented on learning contents and reinforcement of professor's role as a mentor, a facilitator, a motivator, and an informant. Second, The core learning activity's process of the teaching and learning model for the key competencies education in the university consists of the following in order: team-building, exploring problem, gathering and analysing informations, arranging of leaning outcomes, comprehensive arrangement and self-examination.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a scale of free nursing home adjustment for the elderly in Korea. Method: The developmental processes were construction of a conceptual framework, development of preliminary items, verification of content validity, twice data gathering, verification of construct validity, and reliability of final items. The first 53 preliminary items were obtained through review of literatures about nursing home adjustment and in depth interviews with 5 staffs of nursing home. These items were reviewed by five specialists for content validity and 39 items were chosen. The first data was collected from 107 elderly residing in 3 nursing homes and the second survey was from 147 residents who were living in five nursing homes. Finally this data was analyzed for construct validity and reliability. Result: There were 23 final items which were sorted into 5 factors. The factors were identified as 'Relocation distress symptom'(8items), 'Making friends'(4items), 'Acceptance of new residence'(6items), 'Difficulty in group life'(3items), and 'Having self-worth'(2items). The cumulative percent of variance was 53.466%. The reliability of the scale, Cronbach's alpha was .837. Conclusion: The result of this study could be used for measuring nursing home adjustment of the elderly. However, for further validity and reliability, repeated researches are needed.
