In this study, using coke dust from ironwork, the pulse pressure on a pulse air jet bag filter was investigated considering the influence of the pressure loss due to filtration velocity and pressure intervals. The research on the optimal pulse pressure prediction of a pulse air jet type bag filter using coke dust showed the following results. Pressure loss volatility produced by the pulse pressure under low dust concentration(0.5, $1g/m^3$) and low face velocity(1.25 m/min) was less than $10mmH_2O$. This suggests that the pulse pressure has a low impact on the pressure loss. In contrast, pressure loss volatility under high dust concentration($3g/m^3$) and high face velocity(1.75 m/min) was $25mmH_2O$. Therefore, pulse pressure with high dust concentration and high face velocity has a strong influence on the pressure loss volatility, compared to the condition of low dust concentration and low face velocity. The optimal pulse pressure of inlet dust concentration($0.5g/m^3$) was $6kg/cm^2$ under the same face velocity(1.75 m/min). As concentration increased from 1 to $2g/m^3$, the pulse pressure gradually reached $5kg/cm^2$ thus indicating that the pulse pressure($5kg/cm^2$) is pertinent at a high concentration($3g/m^3$). The pulse intervals: 20, 25 and 30 sec, which are relatively longer than 10 and 15 sec, corresponded to high pressure loss volatility produced by the pulse pressure. Furthermore, low pressure loss volatility was noted at $5kg/cm^2$ of the overall pulse pressure.
A lab-scale MF membrane reactor was installed to investigate the membrane permeability, characteristics of membrane fouling at each conditions, and quality of permeate (liquid livestock manure) in the separation of solid-matters using membrane. Experiment was divided three filtration type such as follows; continuous filtration, gravity filtration, and intermittent filtration. As a result of experiment, flux 1 LMH was maintained for 7days, and trans-membrane pressure(TMP) was increased gradually under 10cmHg, but it was increased immediately after 10cmHg, respectively. However, the flux was increased, the Tmax was decreased exponential more and more. During the pure-flux test, most of the fouling of membrane was reversible. At the gravity filtration, permeate could be obtained as 1.75 LMH for 3.5days without any other electronic pressure. As an investigation of membrane surface, this study could be decided that the reason of fouling at the lower flux (Run 1 and 2) was attached matters in membrane surface, but at the higher flux (Run 4-6) was concentration polarization.
To improve the crossflow untrafiltration flux, we applied periodic oscillations in transmembrane pressure gradient in order to promote fluid turbulence by inducing repeated compression and relaxation of the cake/gel layer. The oscillatory forms used were square-, sine-, triangle-wave, and pumping interruption. The permeate flux profiles were mathematically simulated and compared with the experimental data. The result showed the periodic pumping interruption most effectively improved the overall flux by up to about 32%. Enough pumping off-time, at least on the order of tens of seconds, was needed to allow the solutes in the layer to diffuse back to the bulk phase. It was better to start the oscillations earlier before the layer was fully established. The square-wave oscillation yielded about 11% increase, which was particularly pronounced in the later part of the filtration. Either the amplitude or the period of the oscillations resulted little influence on flux.actate ester, and lactate ester produced in esterification reaction was distilled simultaneously with hydrolysis reaction into lactic acid. When the yields of lactic acid recovered by batch reactive distillations with various alcohols were compared, the yield of lactic acid was increased as the volatility of lactate ester was increased. In this batch reactive distillation, because the mixtures condensed in partial condensor were flown to reboiler through distillation column, the recovery yield of lactic acid was affected by operation temperature of partial condensor. Hydrolysis reaction into lactic acid in distillation column rarelyoccurred because of short retention time of lactate ester and water. Lactate ester was reacted into lactic acid in reboiler.
Permeate flux decline in a microfiltration was analyzed by measuring the permeability of bentonite colloidal solution through polyethylene capillary membranes. The flux decline with time was due to the growth of cake layer on the membrane surface and to the pore blocking by particles. As the time approaches to steady state, the permeate flux is almost controlled by the cake filtration model. Faster flux decline at high trans-membrane pressure was attributed to the formation of denser packed cake layer and pore blocking. The ratio of permeate flux to the initial permeate flux, J/J₁, decreased with increasing the trans-membrane pressure, from 45% for 0.5 kg/sub f//㎠ to 38% for 2.0 kg/sub f//㎠. In comparing the ratio of each fouling component to the total fouling for the 0.5 kg/sub f//㎠ TMP condition, complete blocking was 23.4%, standard blocking was about 14.6% and cake filtration was 62.0%, respectively. Permeate flux through the membrane increases with cross flow velocity, and the effect of the variation of velocity is more significant at 1.0 kg/sub f//㎠ rather than at 2.0 kg/sub f//㎠ of the operation pressure. Permeate flux for the membrane having the average pore diameter of 0.34 ㎛ was higher than that for the membrane of 0.24 ㎛ pore size, with the higher flux with the low concentration of feed. On the operation using the membrane of 0.34 ㎛ pore, the pore blocking in the low concentration of 200 ppm is negligible relative to the pore blocking in the 1000 ppm feed.
Reverse osmosis (RO) technology has developed over the past 40 years to control a 44% market share in the world desalting production capacity and an 80% share in the total number of desalination plants installed worldwide. The application of conventional and low-pressure membrane pretreatment processes to seawater RO (SWRO) desalination has undergone accelerated development over the past decade. Reliable pretreatment techniques are required for the successful operation of SWRO processes, since a major issue is membrane fouling associated with particulate matter/colloids, organic/inorganic compounds, and biological growth. While conventional pretreatment processes such as coagulation and granular media filtration have been widely used for SWRO, there has been an increased tendency toward the use of ultrafiltration/microfiltration (UF/MF) instead of conventional treatment techniques. The literature shows that both the conventional and the UF/MF membrane pretreatment processes have different advantages and disadvantages. This review suggests that, depending on the feed water quality conditions, the suitable integration of multiple pretreatment processes may be considered valid since this would utilize the benefits of each separate pretreatment.
Wet-type particulate removal system is employed in most of ironmaking processes. These de-dusting systems require additional downstream aggregates for treatment of water and for drying of the collected slurry. Thus dried slurry can be pressed in shape of briquettes and recycled in the steelmaking process. Different from the wet-type, the dry-type particulate removal systems generate no slurry. A high-temperature, high-pressure de-dusting system with inertial inlet was developed. The target application of this system was to remove particulate matter generated from the novel ironmaking process and other steelmaking processes. In this study we conducted tests with this newly developed system to evaluate the performance of the silica-carbide (SiC) ceramic filters. In addition, for purpose of comparison, we also conducted tests with a unit which has conventional direct inlet. Fe-Particles collected from the novel ironmaking process were used in our tests as test dusts. The temperature and the pressure were kept constant at their respective values $800^{\circ}C$ and $3kg_f/cm^2$.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the possibility to apply pre-ozone and membrane system for drinking water. This system is improved in fouling control by pre-ozone system. It is composed of ultrafiltration hollow fiber type membrane and ozone reactor. The result of this study is that the flux is increased about 10.7% and decreased in TMP by the pre-ozone. Also, backwashing pressure decreased about 18%. The optimum concentration of residual ozone is 0.3~0.5 ppm. During the period, the recovery ratio of this system was turned out to be 90% as the flowrate of effluent is $67.1m^3/day$. When the TMP and backwashing pressure was $0.85kg/cm^2$ and $1.10kg/cm^2$, this system was stable without sudden fouling. Finally, the quality of effluent is satisfied the guidelines for potable water quality such as turbidity, color, E.coli, Mn, Al, Fe and so on.

The water retention of coating colors can be accurately measured by devices such as an AA-GWR water retention meter whose principle of measurement is based on pressure filtration of coatings under an externally applied air pressure over a certain period of time. It was hypothesized that such devices could be also used to determine the immobilization solids(IMS) of coating colors by determining a sudden drop in the rate of dewatering, that is, a sudden change in the drainage curves. To test this hypothesis, the immobilization solids of coating colors containing various thickeners and water retention additives at different levels were first accurately measured by a modified immobilization tester based on the well-known gloss drop method, and then their values were compared with those obtained by an AA-GWR water retention tester. They agreed very well and showed that the mean of the solids differences is 0.36% in the IMS points between both methods. This good agreement was not surprising because both test methods are based on the same end-point, that is, the immobilization solids point at which menisci begin to form at the coating surface. Theoretical considerations supporting this new method for measuring the immobilization solids of coating colors are presented and some recommendations for the test method are discussed. Also, the effect of various thickeners and water retention additives on the properties and printability of coated papers is discussed.
The object of study were the development of membrane process and the optimization of operation condition for membrane system, which was used the pre-treatment system of tap water treatment in steady of conventional process such as coagulation, sedimentation. The higher steady flux is very important factor, by a suitable pre-treatment and optimization of operating condition such as fouling control, crossflow and backwashing method, in membrane system. So, we were observed the effect of flux decline for membrane used by 4 type ultrafiltration(UF) membrane pre-treatment process, and optimized the operation condition of filtration system under various MWCO(Molecular weight cut-off), operation pressure, linear velocity and temperature to maintain higher flux. From these experiment, we were identified that UF process showed a slower flux decline rate and a higher flux recovery than microfiltration(MF) membrane. The water quality of UF permeate was better than that of MF, and was not effected pre-treatment process. In the operation condition, the rate of flux decline was diminished by a higher linear velocity and operation temperature, lower pressure.
In this study, we found structure-property relationship for pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) membrane, between BPS-XX and BisA-XX having similar structure but different free volume. And this comparison was subdivided by controlling its sulfonation degree. BPS-XX and BisA-XX were prepared via a polycondensation reaction. The degree of sulfonation were 20 to 60 mol.%. And they were fabricated to membrane. Characteristics were analyzed to verify of free volume. And the results showed that increase of free volume normally lead to increase permeability and decrease selectivity in equivalent molecule structure. Finally, in the permeability-selectivity results, we conclude high permeability and selectivity membrane can be prepared by controlling molecular structure and free volume.
